ABSTRACT

The Camerons Piston Check valve is a non return valve used in, pumping stations for pipelines, behind feed water pumps in power plants, on pumps in water wells. The performance parameter of primary interest to the manufacturer is the flow coefficient Cv. The flow coefficient Cv is generally found experimentally according to the standard ANSI-ISA-S75.02-1996. The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique is applied and the same experimental procedure has been adopted to find the flow coefficient Cv at full open condition of the valve. The 6 class 300 piston check valve is modeled to the real industrial size using Autodesk INVENTOR 11 software. The fluid domain has been extracted from the model, and the surface and volume mesh has been generated using ANSA and T-GRID softwares respectively. The computational domain consists of the inlet pipe, valve interior, and outlet pipe. The flow is considered to be Steady, Incompressible and Turbulent. The behavior of the flow has been analyzed by numerical flow simulations using FLUENT software. The flow coefficient Cv has been found and the results have been compared to the catalogue data and found to be correct.
