HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 3 - 7:
We read When Tilly Turtle Came to Tea, added many T items/pictures to our letter T baggie and learned what sound the letter T makes. We made a tree out of our paper letter T. We used tree bark for the trunk and selected beautiful Fall leaves to glue on top! We each received two tickets with pictures of T items on them. One picture at a time was pulled out of a truck. We were then asked, Who has the ticket with the T-T-Truck? The child who had that ticket chose a Tootsie Roll from our Tootsie Roll tree! We practiced writing the letter Tt on paper. We read through our Letter Tt book and circled all letter Tts. We made turtle tachistoscopes. We learned how to thread the picture strip through the slits on the turtles back and what words start with T. We traced many different shapes, played shape bingo and made shape concentration cards to take home one at a time and play! We finished our class book, Eleven Apples Up On Top! Inspired by Dr. Seuss Ten Apples Up on Top. We hope you enjoy reading it as we pass it around. We painted with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Our classroom smelled sparkling clean! We learned a new song, Splendid Senses (words below). We read about our five senses and played Whats the Sense? (matching the picture with the sense) We used our sense of touch with our feeling bag activity. We each had the opportunity to reach inside the bag and feel the item then use words to describe the item to our friends. After each description and several guesses, we pulled the item out to see if our guess was correct. We used our sense of smell as we washed the dishes in our sensory table. We sniffed lemon, apple and pumpkin dish soap as we scrubbed! We used our sense of taste at our tea party with our tie around our neck and teddy bear on our lap! We sipped tea, enjoyed some delicious tea cookies and a tootsie roll for dessert. What fun we had! Our favorite part had to be pouring and sipping our tea as we went through a half-gallon of tea (apple juice). We used our sense of hearing as we drew by ear. Ms. Kim played a recording of slow music and encouraged us to draw on one half of the paper, pay attention to how the music made us feel. We repeated the process with fast music on the remaining half of the paper.
We then discussed our drawings and how the music made us feel. We also listened to and tried to replicate rhythm patterns with our instruments. We used our sense of sight on our highly anticipated field trip to Windmill Farm Market. We saw beautiful blue skies, plump orange pumpkins and a wagon that was full of hay for us to ride in. We had a great time. We learned two new Sing & Spell sight word songs (words below) and reviewed the previous eight. In sign language we learned how to say the following: What is your name, my name is, old and new! During Storybook Caf, we read Shape Space and made shape munchers!
