=========

mp3cutter is a program that enables you to cut pieces from a mp3 without
compromising
the original quality of this mp3.
this is done by doing a frame aligned cut between multiple frames, which is a
better
approach than first decoding a mp3 to raw pcm, edit it with a wave-editor and re-
encoding
it back to mp3.
only downside of this procedure is that "special processing", like normalizing,
adding
reverb, etc. is not possible.

basic procedure of how to cut a mp3:

- add a mp3 to the "project bin" by "importing" it with the "import"-button.

the file will now be scanned for valid mp3 frames and may take a while on
fairly large mp3's.
- once it's in the "project bin" you can go cut it by double-clicking it or by
doing a right-click and select "cut".
- in the "cutter" you can select a start-frame by pressing the "|<-" button and
an end-frame by pressing the "->|" button at any time.
- you can do this while the file is playing as a whole (play all) or as a mark
(play mark)
or while cueing or pausing.
- you can review your selection by pressing the "|->-|" (play mark) button.
- when satisfied you can save that selection by pressing the button with the
floppy-disk
on it or you can put the selection on the "cue list".
- all cuts on the "cue list" can be exported as one large mp3 with the "export"
button.
- to set an id3v1 tag for this export you can press the "project properties"
button.
some tips:

- you can also press the labels above the frame-indicators on the cutter:
"mark-in" : jump to the selected mark-in frame
"mark-out": jump to the selected mark-out frame
"current" : shows a dialog where you can enter a frame-number or time to jump
to.

good luck and happy cuttin'...

greetz,

peter <peter@mp3cutter.cjb.net>

history:
june 24, 2003:
addition: - requested by leif ericson:
a fast way to reset the jog-dial to 0 when using the arrow- and
page up/down-keys.
use the "0" key on the numeric keypad.

march 23, 2003: release 533

addition: - suggest by arie de muynck:
extended export feature with enables you to export selected items
in the cuesheet (in any supported format; mp3, wav and m3q)
without
being asked for their filenames: the files will be saved as stated
in the alias of that cue.
as a result, the original "export" option has been renamed to
"export as".

february 16, 2003: release 529

bug fixed: - support for nt/xp systems (i hope): rewritten the playback engine
to use the same thread as mp3cutter. as a result some things don't
work as "smooth" as in the old-style engine, also the "thread
priority"
for the cutter cannot be changed anymore (there's simply no
thread).
note however that this other approach might contain some unforseen
bugs, but now mp3cutter *should* run on nt/xp at least (i tried on
my
windows 2000 server and it worked!).
- fixed "use disk for temp. data option" (thanks to lutz).
addition: - because of the large number of requests, added an "auto-cut"
feature
like in the older mp3cutter 2: just select the file you want to
auto-cut
in the project-bin and choose (right-click) autocut.
the cuts will be placed in the cue-list where they can be exported
to
separate mp3's again.
january 20, 2002: release 511
bug fixed: - incorrect cutter window size on systems with "odd" font settings.
(thanks to john blackwood and others).
in progress: - working on an "autocutter" function (as in mp3cutter2) which will
detect silences inside a mp3 and cut tracks at these points.

january 03, 2002: release 507

bugs fixed: - mp3cutter used 100% cpu time (sorry...).
- didn't use a packer (fyi: upx) anymore, hope this solves some
problems.

removed: - debug-window because of problems on some systems.

- associations for the mp3, m3u and wav file-extensions because
of strange problems on some system (stolen associations).

additions: - none (due to lack of time).

known bugs: - mp3cutter 4 doesn't seem to run on nt based systems...

(win2k, xp, etc.) haven't found out why yet, sorry.

november 17, 2001: release 502

bugs fixed: - forms were not shown as a child and could be moved outside the
main-program
their styles were incorrectly set.
- temporary indexfiles were not deleted at program destruction.
- mp3cutter wasn't able to correctly retrieve update information
from
the web-site through the cjb.net re-director.
if you have the older 467 release, you'll need to delete the
registry-
entry:
hkey_current_user/software/videoripper/mp3cutter/updatesurl.
or simply run "mp3cutter /r" (from a command-line prompt),
which will delete all registry-entries mp3cutter uses.

new bugs: - due to the "incorrect formstyles" bug-fix, at start-up all forms
are shown
even when they've been hidden in a previous run of mp3cutter.

additions: - bin files and cues can be dragged to the cutter.

- eta label in caption area when files are scanned and exported.
- only one instance of mp3cutter may run at a time.

november 08, 2001: release 467

first official debug/beta release of mp3cutter.
