PARALLAX
Our Basic Stamp 2 style modules continue to be the most popular choice in consumer microcontrollers due to the ease of use and enormous amount of educational support. We recommend that all new customers begin with the BS2-IC. Upon mastering the abilities of the BS2-IC, you may then consider implementing other modules as needed based on the goals of your projects.

SR-06 Speech Recognition Kit (IMAGES)
(continued)
The SR-06 Speech Recognition circuit performs speech recognition independently in a stand alone mode. The circuit can recognize up to 40 words one second length or 20 words two seconds length (user selectable). Circuit is trained by the user to recognize words the user requires. The SR-06 may be trained in any language. When a trained word is recognized, the circuit outputs a digital number corresponding to the word recognized. This binary output may be interfaced to control external circuits and appliances. See following speech interface circuits; SRI-01, SRI-02 and SRI-03. The SRI-01 is for controlling the OWI robotic arm using voice commands. The SRI-02 and SRI-03 are general purpose interfaces. The SR-06 is always in the listening mode. The modular circuit boards allows the main circuit board to be embedded or interfaced to external circuits.

Expansion
ARobot can be expanded beyond belief! ARobot's controller board has the ability to control 3 additional RC (Remote Control) servo motors which are commonly available at hobby stores for less than $20 each. These motors can be used to create a small robot arm or a moving head. The body contains openings to mount 2 of these RC servo motors. The controller board also provides a connector to power a small DC motor like the one used as the drive motor. This connector can also be used to control other high-power devices such as a light or horn. An expansion connector is provided to allow the user to add many special devices. Access to all of the Basic Stamp's I/O signals is provided and unused pins can be wired as needed. Additional circuit boards can be stacked on top of ARobot's main controller board. Mounting holes and dimensions are the same as the prototype boards (RS Catalog #276-170) and breadboards (RS Catalog #276-174) found at Radio Shack. This makes expansion easier and cheaper. See our project page for ideas such as using a sonar range finder and interfacing to a smoke alarm. Endless possibilities prevent boredom! Possible devices include: Additional whiskers Sonar range finder Smoke detector Light sensors Digital compass Tilt sensors IR communications
The expansion port offers: All Basic Stamp I/O signals Coprocessor network signal 3 standard RC servo motor signals Access to coprocessor network bus User defined signals Standard 40 pin flat ribbon cable Other signals can be wired by user

Air Muscles
Air muscles contract when pressurized with air. Similar in function to biological muscle. Uses low pressure air (50 psi max) that may be supplied by a small compressor or bicycle foot pump. The size of the air muscle and the air pressure determines the weight of the load it can pull when it contracts. Air muscles are soft and light weight. May be used for off-axis contractions and around around bends. Nylon loops at each end are provided for mechanical connections. Pneumatic air muscles are used in robotics and automation.
