Global Energy Situation

Increasing global consumption has led to the rapid depletion of fossil fuels, especially oil and gas, resulting in rising energy costs and energy shortages Renewable energy currently accounts for only a small percentage of the global energy mix, and is often very costly, geographically unsuitable or unproven. We therefore look to the most readily available natural resource, which is also an extremely cost effective source of energy: Coal

Types of Coal : 1. High Rank Coal : Bituminous, Anthracite (Low Moisture, High Energy Content) Low Rank Coal : Peat, Lignite, Sub-bituminous (High Moisture, Low Energy Content)

2.

Low Rank Coal Stranded Energy Supply

A. Low-rank coal :
Currently accounts for about 65% of coal resources and 50% of coal reserves globally Use is currently limited : Low heating value, high handling cost and spontaneous combustion Most low-rank coals also possess lower sulphur and ash contents

B. Potential of low-rank coal:

If these coals could be efficiently and economically processed to yield a highergrade, higher-heating value product, there would be :

1. An enormous increase in the supply of affordable energy 2. Lower environmental impact compared to high rank coal

Solution: Coal Upgrading

A successful coal upgrading process has to be economical and address the issues of spontaneous combustion, decrepitation (fines generation), and moisture reabsorption.

What is GEO-COAL Technology ?

GEO-COAL Technology is a patent-pending proprietary technology that upgrades stranded low rank coal into usable coal with higher calorific values, resulting in significant cost savings Given the low cost of the upgrading technology, GEO-COAL makes it possible to harness vast reserves of stranded low rank coal GEO-COAL Technology makes affordable energy available to people around the world

Processed Results
To date, raw coal from various coal mines has been successfully upgraded by Geo-Coal technology. The calorific value of the upgraded coal can also be adjusted to suit the specific requirements of different power plants.

Benefits of GEO-COAL Products

1. 2. Higher Quality Coal : 50% to 100 % increased energy content from initial low rank coal feedstock Increases Profit Margins: Upgraded coal fetches a significantly higher selling price, thus generating higher profit margins and increased market opportunities for coal producers More Eco-Friendly: GEO-COAL products maintain environmental properties of low rank coal, i.e. lower sulphur and ash content Increased Energy Supply: GEO-COAL taps on the potential of stranded coal resources, e.g. 70% of untapped coal resources in Indonesia alone Simple and Economical: GEO-COAL requires lower capital and operating expenditures than existing technologies. GEO-COAL plants require short installation times, and the upgrading process avoids the need for briquetting Increased performance at power plants: Higher heating value of the coal enables more efficiency and utilization during combustion leading to higher power outputs

Benefits of GEO-COAL Products

7. Versatile : GEO-COAL can be used for a wide range of high moisture, low calorific value coals from different coal mines around the world, as well as for other organic materials such as bamboo, wood and even wastes Enhanced Transport Efficiency: Upgraded coals reduced moisture content saves extensive transportation and handling costs, since unnecessary volume in the form of water mass need not be carried Increased Performance : GEO-COAL produces higher power outputs as a result of higher heating value of the coal, enabling more efficient burning and utilisation during combustion

8.

9.

10. Reduced Risk of Spontaneous Combustion : Chemical and physical properties of the upgraded coal are significantly more stable than before (initial low rank coal feed)

Commercialising GEO-COAL
GEO-COAL Pilot Plant located in Curug, Tangerang, Indonesia Indonesian national utility company, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) will use GEO-COAL in its 2x300 megawatt power generation plant in Labuan, Banten Province, Indonesia Construction of the first GEO-COAL minesite commercial plant in Tamiang Layang, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia by end June 2011. This will have a capacity of 500,000 metric tonnes per year, supplying GEO-COAL products to the industry
