Raise the Generation of Elijah

KEY TEXT

Luke 1:13-17
“But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife
Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will be a joy and
delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the
Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit
even from birth. Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. And he will
go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their
children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared
for the Lord."

INTRODUCTION

We are living in the last generation/last century. Jesus said that before He comes, there will be
a great revival to turn the people back to Him. We saw that revival happen in the Pentecost,
when Jesus’ followers were filled with the Holy Spirit’s consuming fire. They were so
passionate; they were willing to die for Jesus.

What does it mean to have a generation of Elijah? When there is a revival, there will be a great
harvest. But we need harvesters who are prepared to reap the harvest.

Background:
Elijah’s spirit and power (1 Kings 17-18)
Elijah wanted to prove that God was still God of Israel and the world. To the point of his death,
He brought people back to God. Elijah did not taste death: he was caught up to heaven.
Symbolically, that is when Jesus will return again in His second coming. If we give our lives to
bringing people back to Jesus, we will see His coming.

God is preparing Elijah’s for this generation. When God brought revival into the land of the
chosen generation, He prepared people. Such as John the Baptist who prepared the way for
Jesus’ ministry on this earth. Also, before the Pentecost (revival of the early church), Jesus
prepared His 12 disciples.

In order to save this generation  God is preparing an Elijah generation.

Will you ride the wave, moving in what God is doing on this earth, or will you say that you are
too busy, living in the ways of the world?

BODY

How can we be prepared as a generation of Elijah when the great revival happens?

I. You must be great in the sight of the Lord, not in the sight of man.

Luke 1:15 – “for he will be great in the sight of the Lord”

• During the time of John the Baptist, there were many great people who were
well known amongst the religious people  in the sight of man they’re great,
but in the sight of God they’re nothing

• But God did not choose them, He chose John the Baptist  in the eyes of
man he is nothing (not schooled) but in the sight of God he was great

• You might not be recognized by man but you must be recognized by God and
also the demonic powers  your name should be known!

*** How can we be one who is recognized by God, great in the sight of God?

John lived a simple life. He denied himself of the pleasures of this world, living in the desert
with simple clothes and simple food. But whenever John the Baptist heard from God, he
obeyed. God’s will was above everything else. To the point of death  He is Lord!

*** To be recognized by God  deny yourself and obey God

II. You must keep yourself clean and pure from the lusts of this world.

Luke 1:15 – “He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with
the Holy Spirit even from birth.”

• You must be kept pure and clean from the things of this world.

• As long as you fix your eyes on the things of this world, you will struggle with
the lusts of this world. Close your eyes, ears, and thoughts to the things of
this world and open them to God. Otherwise, you cannot be filled with the
H.S. and be open to hear God.

• If you are not filled with the H.S., you cannot fight against the attack of the
enemy, you cannot wage war against the enemy.

*** How could John the Baptist bring all these people into repentance when he was considered
a nobody to the world?

He kept himself pure and waged war against evil.

III. Determine in your heart to live your life to fulfill God’s purpose (bringing people back to Him)

Luke 1:16 – “Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God.”

• God’s plan for your life is to bring many people back to the KOG

• So when the KOG comes, you will rule with Jesus!

• Pray and determine in your heart to live for His KOG and prepare the people
for Jesus’ second coming  we can enter into the holy wedding banquet
between Jesus and His people

Great harvest is coming. If you are not ready, then you cannot reap the harvest that is to come.
You will miss out on the day of revival. Why? Because you cannot give up the things of this
world. Give up those things for the greater, eternal things of Christ.

CONCLUSION

Luke 1:17 – “And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah”

It is all for the glory of the Father. This life is lived to bring God’s Kingdom back on this earth.
Are you ready to answer God’s calling?

Daniel saw what was to happen in the future:

Daniel 12:2 – “Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life,
others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of
the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”

Your reward in bringing the nations back to Him is great!

QUESTIONS

3 Points:
People fail to become a generation of Elijah because…
1. they do not want to give up their ways of the world.
2. they do not keep themselves pure and clean from the world.
3. they do not determine in their hearts to live for God’s purpose.

God’s will will be done! It is a choice for us to join or not…

1. Since God’s will will be fulfilled, why (specifically) am I not answering the call of
becoming a generation of Elijah? (Goes with point #1 – not wanting to give up the ways
of the world)
2. What’s keeping me from living a clean and pure life in the sight of the Lord?
3. What’s keeping me from determining in my heart to follow and devote my life to Jesus?
