My Life is like a River

Have you ever been to a river and noticed how it flows? In the poem: , Life is like a River written by the poet: Phillip Alan Green. The poet uses a river to explain how his life is like by explaining how a river flows. This poem uses Simile simile and Personificationsersonification. The moods in this poem are calm, gentle, smooth and bumpy. The message that Phillip Green is trying to get across is that the River river can be just like Life life itself. He describes the river being calm and having smooth water but also along the way, there are rocks and currents. The author is trying to express two different moods in this poem. He starts the poem by having a calm and gentle mood but however the poem , and then transitions to a depressed mood. For example, Phillip Green stars by using sentences such as, : sometimes flowing light and gently and moving along with ease to give the poem it a calm and smooth mood. On the other hand, the author also used sentences such as,: rough and rapid or, I do not like the rocks and currents to give the poem a depressing or a miserable mood. The author does a great job developing the mood of the poem, from a positive to a negative atmosphere. This poem uses a variety of literary techniques such as: Simile simile and Personificationpersonification. The Simile simile can be seen when the author writes: , My life is like a river. This simile can be seen repetitively throughout the poem on lines: 3, 8 and 14. The writer is comparing his life to a river using the word like to show the connection. In addition to similes, the author used personification in his poem such as: , Waiting for the sun to shine overhead or looking for the rainbow in the sky. The poem describes the river waiting for the sun to shine or looking for the rainbow in the sky. The poet explains the sky being dark and gloomy and that the river is hoping the light would return and that a rainbow can be seen in the sky. The author divided the poem into 4 four different parts stanzas , with each part eachending with the sentence,s: My life is like a River. The first part of the poem has a calm and gentle mood. The second part of the poem uses a negative and dreadful mood. The author wrote the third part of them poem that a positive and negative mood is combined like this: I like the smooth waters. They bring me peace and joy. I do not like the rocks and currents. They are struggles in my life. Lastly, the fourth part of the poem describes the river having ups and downs; and twists and turns. The fourth part shows a neutral mood because it is describing the river as if it could go either way. Due to the structure of the poem you can see how the mood changes when the stanzas change.
