Akruti™ Dynamic Fonts

Dynamic Fonts refer to a special category of fonts meant for Internet only. These fonts are
dynamically loaded on the fly along with the Web Page in which they are embedded and hence
the name Dynamic Fonts. The terms Internet Fonts and Web Fonts are aliases for Dynamic
Fonts. These fonts are especially useful in the case of web pages containing Indian language
contents because it is not always possible that the Indian language fonts used to develop these
web pages will be installed on the client's machine.

If the Indian language web page is using a font which is not present in the client's machine and
the web page does not contain any Dynamic Fonts then the page will not be in a readable format
and will show meaningless characters. However if the font used in the web page is available on
the local machine, it can display properly.

Dynamic Fonts files are browser specific. It means that these files are different for Microsoft
Internet Explorer (MSIE) and Netscape. Moreover, Dynamic Fonts files are supported only by
MSIE 4.0 & above and Netscape 4.03 & above. If this site is to be viewed in MSIE versions lower
than 4.0 or Netscape version lower than 4.03, then Cyberscape Multimedia’s Akruti™ Dynamic
Fonts package comes with a True Type Font (TTF) File which can be hosted on your site and is
freely downloadable by the client for viewing the site. Of Course, you will have to provide a link for
fonts download.

Currently, Dynamic Fonts are available for all Microsoft Windows platforms (Win9x/NT/2000) and
Macintosh platforms on the client side. The server side can be running any Web Server on any
Operating System.

Pre-Requisites

The contents of the web page must have been developed using Akruti™ Fonts. For
optimal performance use Akruti™™ ver 6.0 or above for web site content creation.
The list of URLs in which the Dynamic Fonts will be used must be specified along with
the Purchase Order. This is required because the Dynamic Fonts provided will be
protected to work from those specified URLs only.

Note:

If you have contents already developed using Akruti™ versions 6.0 or below, then
conversion programs are available from Cyberscape Multimedia Ltd. for upgrading them
to the proper format.
The Dynamic Fonts will work only for the list of URLs specified along with the order of
Akruti™ Indian language Dynamic Fonts. In fact, as a measure of security this list of
URLs is embedded in the Akruti™ Indian language Dynamic Fonts itself.

FAQs

1. What are Dynamic Fonts ?

Dynamic Fonts refer to a special category of fonts meant for Internet only. These fonts
are dynamically loaded on the fly along with the Web Page in which they are embedded
and hence the name Dynamic Fonts. The terms Internet Fonts and Web Fonts are
aliases for Dynamic Fonts. These fonts are especially useful in the case of web pages or
email in HTML format containing Indian language contents because it is not always
possible that the Indian language fonts used to develop these web pages will be installed
on the client's machine.

2. What do I get when I purchase Dynamic Fonts ?

You get the following files:
.pfr file(s) for the selected font(s)
.eot file(s) for the selected font(s)
.js file (Javascript file) containing code for selectively loading browser specific Dynamic
Font file(s).
.ttf file for the selected font(s)

3. Why will I need a True Type Font (.ttf) File(s) ?

You will need .ttf file(s), if you want the client's of your web site to have the option of
downloading the font to their machine to speed up viewing the pages. Also some times
the page may appear as Junk. In this cases if the user has the font installed in his
machine the text will appear properly.

4. What is the difference between a normal Akruti™ True Type Font given along with
Akruti™ package and the True Type Font file given with Dynamic Fonts ?
The Fonts that are present in the Akruti™ Package CD are not web enabled and also are
not downloadable. You can not generate Dynamic Fonts using the True Type Fonts
present in Akruti™ CD. Normal Akruti™ Fonts are locked and can be used only by the
licensed users of Akruti™ for editing purposes (DTP or Wordprocessing). True Type fonts
given with Dynamic Fonts are not locked and can be used by any user in his machine for
read-only purposes.

5. Is it essential to specify the exact URL(s) for purchasing Dynamic Font(s) ?

Yes, The URL(s) are essential for creating the Dynamic Font(s). In fact the URL(s) are
embedded in the Dynamic Font(s) File itself. If anybody tries to copy the Dynamic Font
file(s) to his/her machine and use it for his/her own web pages, it will not be possible. I.e.
Dynamic Font(s) are locked to the specified URL(s) and can not be used in any other
URL(s).

6. I have copied the Dynamic Font file(s) to a sub-directory named "fonts" in the root
directory c:\inetpub\wwwroot. I am having the html files in another directory at the
same level. I.e. my HTML pages are in the directory wwwroot\html and the Dynamic
Font file(s) are in wwwroot\fonts. Will the pages appear properly ?
Yes, if the URL(s), which you have specified, refer to the wwwroot directory. Once you
have Dynamic Font file(s) enabled for the root directory, it will have its effect in the root
directory as well as all the sub-directories under the root directory.
7. I want to use only one Dynamic Font file for multiple URLs. All the URLs belong to
me/my organization only. Is it possible to have a single Dynamic Font file which
works for multiple URLs ?
Yes, For this you will have to specify all the URLs, which are registered in your/your
organization's name. It is mandatory to specify all the URLs along with the Purchase
Order for the Dynamic Font itself. You will get only one Dynamic Font File, which you will
have to upload to one of the specified URLs. All the other web sites must give link to the
absolute path where the Dynamic Font file has been uploaded.

8. If I purchase Dynamic Font file(s) for a single URL and later want to enable it for
more URL(s), is it possible to do so ?
Yes, For this you will have to contact us. We will enable the Dynamic Font for the
additional URL(s) provided that the additional URL(s) are registered under the same
name as of the original URL.
