The gospel of John gives us many thrilling pictures of the Lord Jesus Christ as He moved among the people. He had come to save and heal and to reconcile the sinners with Almighty God. In chapter 9 we see the decisions and indecisions of the two principal actors as they meet the people. VI. THE PERSON:. Jesus passed by. He was sent by His Father in heaven to show a sinful rebellious people that God still loved them and wanted to forgive them and have eternal fellowship with them fellowship with them. A MAN BLIND FROM BIRTH : Jesus knew he was there and this was a moment to glorify God and prove to the Pharisees that Jesus was come from God to release the people from the bondage of satan. ACTS 4 vl2; Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. V 2 THE PERPLEXITY ; The Jews had long believed that sickness and disease were due to sin in the life of the person or the parents. In some areas this may be true. A person is spiritually blind at birth , depriving their children of a Christian start in life. JOHN 8 v 12 ; Then Jesus spoke again to them, saying, I am the light of the world, He that follows Me shall not walk in darkness , but shall have the light of life. V3. THE PLAN OR PURPOSE: Even though this blind man was a sinner and could not see or know the truth yet Jesus came to him and forgave this man his sin and released him from the grip of satan, It was a miracle that Jesus performed on this man but even a greater miracle was the fact that this man was now saved and brought into the family of God. The Pharisees could not accept or believe the truth that Jesus was trying to bring to them. JOHN 6 v 40 ; And this is the will of Him that sent everyone that seeth the Son and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the V 4..THE PROSPECTS: Christ was saying that He did not have long to work His Father's will, The more people who acknowledged Him as the Messaiah , the more disciples He would have to build His church when He returned to His father. We work during the day and sleep most of the night and we seem to have little time to be Christ's disciples and to be that light on a hill Illuminating the darkness for Jesus. MATTHEW 5 vl6; Some parents may withhold Christian teaching from their children who may, because t your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven. V 5. THE PEACE: That comes from this Person who is the light of the world, the Son of God, before whom we shall stand one day . When Jesus returned to heaven He sent the Holy Spirit of God to earth to indwell all those who believed on Jesus and would worship Him and the Father.' People living in darkness have not the peace that Christians may have, JOHN 14 v27; Peace I leave with you, My peace I 9ive unto you, not as the world glveth give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let It be afraid. V 6.. THE PRESCRIPTION: Jesus was Just like any other man until He was baptised in the Holy Spirit and given the gifts of the Spirit in order to do the works that God wanted Him to do. The blind man had faith enough to accept the gift that Jesus offered him, We often use the simple things of this world to help people to better health, but the greatest thing is the strength of our faith In Jesus and the word of God. When Jesus rejoined His Father He gave His disciples instructions to go forth, preach the gospel and heal the sick. The indwelling Holy Spirit was to empower us as we use the glfts glveen us,through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. JOHN 14 vl2; Verily, Verily, I say unto you, He that belleveth on Me the works that I do shall he do also; and ;greater works than these shall he do, because I go to My Father.

JOHN 20 v3l; But these are written that you might believe that Jesus Is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you might have life through His name. V7. THE PLEASURE: Obedience to God and His word brings pleasure had blessing. The blind man was prepared to obey Jesus and go to the pool of Siloam and in doing so he received his sight and a blessing beyond his expectations , His faith and desire to be whole at the hands of Jesus made him a completely changed man. JOHN 16 v24; Hitherto have you asked nothing In My name, ask and you shall receive that your Joy may be full. V 8. THE PERCEPTION: What a glorious picture here. His friend and neighbours saw a dramatic change In the blind man and the questions came rolling In. Has anyone seen such a dramatic change in your life that they want to know how It all came about ? Once I was blind but now I see. Now I know that Jesus In the Son of God and In His name I can worship God. The present day question Is how much sight and comprehension do I really want. To walk with Jesus, that people might see Jesus living out His life and purposes in my life, or just to be an average church member ? JOHN 17 v3; And this is life eternal that they might know Thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. V 9-10; THE PROBLEM; Such was the change In this blind man that some even doubted that this was indeed the some man that they had known for so many years. 'What a wonderful change In my life has been wrought, since Jesus came Into my heart 0 They just had to know how this change came about. Don't 'You wish that some unsaved person would see such a change in your life and attitudes that they just had to stop and ask you how this h-appeared ? Philippians 3 v2O-21; For our conversation Is In heaven from whence also we look for the Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ. Who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself. V 11-12; THE PRESENTATION: The blind man did not know who had performed this miracle upon him. He was able to tell only as much as he knew. We can only present a picture of our conversion to the extent of our experience or knowledge of Christ at the time we accept Him as our Redeemer and Saviour. how much more effectively can we tell others about Jesus when we regularly study the word of God and experience His leading in our lives. May we seek to become faithfu.1 disciples of Jesus. V 13-14; THE PERSECUTION: This was a serious business. a miracle performed on a Sabbath, so the man who performed it must be a sinner. If he was a sinner then he could not be from God. The Pharisees made nearly all the rules for people to live and some were almost impossible to carry out. And the Pharisees were quick to carry out an examination of a blind man being healed on a Sabbath. JOHN 12 v42; Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him lest they be put out of the synagogue. For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. V 15; THE PERSISTENCE. This was the second time -in a short period that he was given a chance to tell people what had made the miracle change In his life. He had no fear of the Pharisees now. Why do we have such a fear of man when it comes to talking about our Salvation and the Person who made It possible. The Pharisees and his friends could actually see the difference, a man whom they knew to be genuinely blind from birth could now see clearly and they could not deny it. 0 that you and I might persist in telling the unsaved about Jesus. JOHN 14 v2l; He that has My commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves Me. And he that loves Me shall be loved of My -Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him. V 16; THE PREDICAMENT: The age old question, is this Man the person that He says He is ? To the Pharisees He was a sinner and a false prophet who worked on the Sabbath hence He could not be the Son of God so they sought to persecute Him. They reasoned that -a sinner could not have the

power from God to heal -the sick and make the blind to see. But the, blind man was convinced of his miracle and wanted to know more about Christ and who He really was. If we believe that Jesus -is all the Bible says He is then we should be keen to know more about Him and enter into a closer relationship with Him. LUKE 4 vl8; The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has-sent me to-heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Following Christ's commandments of MATTHEW 28 vl8-20 we should be up and doing what He wants us to be doing. Let us be eager to witness to the miracles Jesus has performed In our own lives. V 17; THE PROPHET AND THE, PRIEST: The man was right, Jesus was indeed a Prophet, One who forthtells the good news from God, and Jesus was certainly doing this. He was also the High Priest who had come to be an offering for the sinners of the world. There was to be no more burnt offerings to God, Jesus was going to offer Himself as a sacrifice once and for all time. JOHN I v29; The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and said, behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world. JOHN 6 v40; And this is the will of Him that sent me, that every one that sees the Son and believes on Him may have .everlasting life and I will raise him up at the last day. V68-69; Then Simon Peter answered Him, Lord to whom shall we go, You have the words of eternal life ? And we believe and are sure that You are that Christ the Son of the living God. V 18-23; THE PERFORMANCE: The challenge in our beliefs. The people concerned were Jews who had worshipped God as directed by Moses and knew no other way. Christ was changing all this and the Jews could not accept such a tremendous change In their way of life. They thought they were doing God a favour by crucifying Jesus. The parents of the blind man were overjoyed at the miracle Jesus had performed on their son but they were afraid of the Pharisees who might excommunicate them from the synagogue If they believed on Jesus. But the son stuck with his testimony and received a blessing., Can we be pleased that we have come out -of the world And into Christ's church. Are we prepared to take our stand and say that Jesus is our Lord and Redeemer ? Does our daily performance as Christians please the Holy Spirit or do we tend to quench His presence within us ? The Word was made flesh but Is-He dwelling within us ? MATTHEW 16 v24; Then Jesus said unto His disciples, 'If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. V 24; THE PREACHER,. Give God the praise, This man had no trouble doing that. Whereas I was blind now I see. The man called Jesus opened my eyes. The Pharisees were angry with him and cast him out of the synagogue. The man had taken his stand for Jesus and in his own humble way gave Jesus the glory for the miracle performed on his life. Do we make the most of our opportunities ? We will have few if we do not meditate on God's word and get to understand who He really is and how He wants us to live for Him MATTHEW 25 v2l' His Lord said unto Him, well done thou good and faithful servant you have been faithful over few things I will make you ruler over many things, enter Into the joy of the Lord. V 26-29; THE PREJUDICE: They reviled him they persecuted him. It still happens in this world when a person of some nation is severely persecuted If he or she accepts Jesus as Saviour against the religion of their own country. Jesus and His disciples were trying to call. the Jews out of their continual burnt offerings as He had come to offer up Himself as the one and only necessary sacrifice to redeem the sinners of the world. HEBREWS 9 v28; So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation. V 30-33; THE PARTICIPATION: The man who was born blind could neither read nor write yet he was reasoning with the Pharisees. They were full of knowledge but he was speaking from his own experience which none could deny, even If they could not explain it. Are we trying too hard to memorise the words and not worrying about getting the real experiences of healing and answers to

prayer from God ? Not bothering to praise and worship Him and missing out on the blessings. Let us not become apathetic and finish up back in the world. Let us get back Into the team of witnesses. ACTS 1 v8; But you shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and In all Judea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth. V 34; THE PERSECUTION: After all the reasoning was over, these learned Pharisees cast the man out of the synagogue. They will yet have to answer to Jesus for their refusal to hear His voice and respond. Persecution often follows the conversion where one's friends are well and truly worshipping the world and heavily involved in sin. 2 CORINTHIANS 6 vl7-18; Wherefore come ye out from among them and be you separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you. And be a father to you and you shall be My sons and daughters/ V 35-38; THE PURSUIT: HEBREWS 13 v5-6; Let your conversation .be without covertousness and be content with such things as you have for He has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. This man who was so persistent and honest in his testimony needed help and guidance or follow up and Jesus looked for him and gave him further assurance that he had indeed received a miracle from the Son of God. God is ever seeking to speak to us by His Holy Spirit and the reading of His word. He is always near to comfort and encourage us to have a better relationship with Him. V 38. THE PEACE: Through trials and tribulations there Is a peace of mind that only Jesus can give us. JOHN 14 v27; Peace I leave you , My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth Give I unto you. Let not your 'heart be troubled neither let It be afraid. All Jesus asks of us is that we have complete faith In His dealings with us. V 39-41; THE PROMISE: JOHN 3 vl6-17; For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth In Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. To the Pharisees who thought they had no need of Christ would come the penalty for their folly. To those like the unlearned man who could see the promises of Christ and believe them comes the promise of eternal life and reconciliation with God. May we be used of God to help others decide that Jesus Christ
