GROUNDING BASIC CONCEPTS FROM THE NEC (ON-LINE TUTORIAL), COMPILE BY JAVIER MENDOZA.

GROUNDING PART 3
Conductive materials enclosing electrical conductors or equipment, or forming part of such equipment, shall be connected to earth so as to limit the voltage to ground on non-current carrying metal parts of electrical or electrically connected equipment. Equipment grounding is required regardless of whether the supply system is grounded or ungrounded. Where the system is grounded, the equipment grounding conductor is connected to the system grounded conductor and the grounding electrode system. Where the system is ungrounded, the equipment grounding conductor is connected only to the grounding electrode system. This drawing illustrates the important concepts related to equipment grounding.

Equipment Grounding Conductor: The conductor used to connect the noncurrent-carrying parts of equipment to the system grounded conductor and/or the grounding electrode conductor, at the service equipment or source of a separately derived system.

The conductor used to connect the noncurrent-carrying parts of equipment to the system grounded conductor and the grounding electrode system at the service equipment or source of a separately derived system. A conductor of a system or circuit that is intentionally electrically connected to ground. The conductor used to connect the grounding electrode or grounding electrode system to the grounded conductor at the service equipment or at the source of a separately derived system.
