2. (a) Read any ONE of the passages given below and answer the following questions :
(i) Men trap animals and birds for various reasons. There are zoos in many of the large
cities of the world, and they are usually willing to pay high prices for wild animals and birds, especially
the rarer kinds. These, of course, must be caught and kept alive. Then there are animals which are
dangerous. Some large, some small, and they have to be destroyed. When it is difficult to shoot them
or hunt them and kill them. It is some times possible to trap them. Other animals, and birds too, are
the farmers enemies and can often be trapped more easily than shot or frightened away. But prob-
ably most of the traps that are set are intended to catch animals that have valuable skins.
(1) Who buys rare kinds of Birds and Animals?
(2) What is the main intention behind trapping animals?
(3) What are dangerous animals trapped?
(4) Which animals can be trapped most easily?
(5) State the reasons given the passage for trapping animals.
(ii) Coal is one of the most useful things known to man. We cannot live with out heat, and
in countries where the winters are cold and it is necessary to keep our houses warm, we burn coal. It
lasts longer than wood, and gives out more heat. The gas which we use in our homes for cooking or
heating is made from coal. Coal-miners have difficult and dangerous work to do. Some of the mines
are very deep, and the tunnels the men make in order to get the coal often go for miles under the
earth, and some times even under the sea. In some places in England, so many tunnels have been
made and so much coal taken out that the land has begun to sink. People often have to leave their
houses, which are beginning to fall over, and go to live elsewhere.
