Signing Authority For Hereditary Senator Interim Policy

Individual members of Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation, who have


demonstrated that they are descendents of one of the twelve defined Traditional Families
may act as Hereditary Senator. The Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation Hereditary
Senate is made up of twelve individuals willing to sit, and are selected or elected by their
family members. The main role of an Interim Hereditary Senator at this time is to act as
intermediate for family members. The Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation Hereditary
Senators also act as advisors and assistants to the Principal Sachem.

As part of those duties it has been determined that Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation
Hereditary Senator may, under certain circumstances, exercise signing authority for
membership cards. This does not permit any other signing authority.

The certain conditions must be met;


1. All genealogical information and associated forms and registrations have been
submitted and approved and is on record with the Principal Sachem.
2. The acting Senator has signed and submitted this form.
3. The acting Senator has signed and submitted the Interim Conflict of Interest
Policy.
4. Notice of the action has been communicated to the other Hereditary Senators.
5. The acting Senator must make this document available to the individuals
requesting the service.
6. The acting Senator has explained the requirements under the existing Privacy Act
and Access to Personal Information Act concerning the use and maintenance of
their personal information.
7. The acting Senator cannot use the information, forms, products, or cards for any
purposes other than those agreed to.
8. The acting Senator agrees that the information, forms, products, or cards or the
property of the Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation.

Kichesipirini Algonquin First Nation Hereditary Senators are expected to demonstrate


traditional values as taught through the Seven Grandfather Teachings.

I am aware of the Seven Grandfather Teachings and I apply those teachings to my


responsibilities as Hereditary Senator.

It is expected that the exercise of due diligence has been followed to the best of the
individual’s ability.

All information is factual and complete to the best of my knowledge.

According to tradition all aspects of leadership are done in a spirit of service.

I will ensure that I am acting in the best interests of those I represent.

Procedure

Submit request to sign membership cards to Principal Sachem


Membership information is submitted
Submit number of cards needed
Notice to be given to other Senators
Identification numbers granted
Scanned, or photocopied cards submitted for files
Receipts for expenses submitted with any monies left over
File closure form signed and released
