Challenger Early College High School

The Firebird Screams

Student Announcements
October 4, 2011 Great job with school attendance, sign-in and sign-out procedures this week!! It is part of good citizenship to be in attendance and follow the proper sign-in and sign-out procedures! STUDY HALL NEST: Great job using the Study Hall time this year!! This support was asked for BY YOU and is an excellent addition to Challenger ECHS!! FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORES: Please be reminded that you are obligated to be in Study Hall if you have more than 10 minutes between your classes. This means that if you have a break between classes that is 15 minutes or more (20, 30, etc.), you are obligated to go to the Nest for Study Hall. This is not an option for you but, rather, a requirement of attending CHS. Please see Ms. Benfield with any questions or concerns about this policy. JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Please be reminded that you are welcome to join Study Hall at any time for a quiet, supported place to study and complete assignments. The outcomes for study hall are that students will get assignments done while at school, that students will have two adults available to ask for help with their homework, and that students have a quiet place to work on assignments. Remember that others are working on their assignments so Study Hall is not the time/place for socializing. If there is room to spread out during Study Hall, please sit one student per table. Study Hall 5 for 5: students (all freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors in the Nest during Study Hall) must be 5 for 5 out of the following list prior to reading for fun, getting on internet for fun, sleeping, etc.
1. Do practice problems/review questions 2. Make Flash Cards 3. Rewrite notes 4. Take notes on the current chapter 5. Clean backpack/update agenda/organize binder

Every student at CHS and at least one parent, as understood and agreed upon at enrollment, must attend Open House and our four Quarterly Parent Meetings (QPMs). The dates are on our school calendar; the first QPM is October 6 at 6 p.m. in the MPC. If you have a conflict, please see Ms. Benfield for permission to be absent. 4-year Fridays are designated as days to wear 4-year university apparel. Wear your favorite 4-year university shirts, etc. on Fridays and support our college-going culture!! The top Families with the highest number of Family Points are Mr. VonDohlens Family, Mr. Naylors Family, Mrs. Americos Family. Earning Family Points: show exemplary Integrity, Stewardship, and/or Citizenship (including highest grade level attendance for the week). Losing Family Points: any disciplinary infraction. Each Friday, CHS is on a Family Schedule. This looks like: 11:00 12:15 1st 12:20 1:35 2nd 12:50 2:05 3rd 2:10 2:40 Family 2:45 4:00 4th Freshman will have an assembly in the Auditorium this week. Seniors will have one Senior Social each semester during the Senior Connections period to spend time with their PAA and Family.

Laptops, Nest and campus computers are not personal property and, therefore, not appropriate places to download games, music, etc. Please be good stewards of the schools property and do not download games, music, etc. Car riders please ask your pick-up person (parent, etc.) to keep moving in the driving lane and parking lots. Campus security has asked us to make sure that cars continue to circle campus unless stopping for the moment of loading/unloading only. Clarification for all students: 1. If your high school teacher is late to class please wait a total of 15 courtesy minutes and then send one student to the office so that an adult can come to the class to take attendance, give directions, etc. 2. If your college instructor is late to class please wait a total of 15 courtesy minutes and then sign your name to a class list, leave the signed/dated list on the desk for the teacher, and then dismiss yourself. (Follow this procedure unless your instructor has told you differently.) Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists will provide physicals for winter sports on October 26, 2011 at St Stephens High School in the gym. They start at 6:30 p.m. and the cost is $15 cash. No checks will be accepted.
