DESCRIPTION:
Health and Safety Representatives help develop, maintain and implement rst class health and safety policies, ensuring they are constantly updated and current with legislation. They ensure implementation of all current health and safety legislation, helping to develop and review procedures and policies.
SKILLs:
Good communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills Ability to present and conduct training Work independently and take on responsibilities ensuring issues are resolved A thorough working knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation
EDUCATION:
A diploma in Occupation Health and Safety or related discipline at a community college A member of the Certied Registered Safety Professional

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, workplaces must prepare and review at least annually a written occupational health and safety policy and maintain a program to implement that policy. This certicate program is designed to assist participants in fullling this legal requirement by providing guidelines and assistance in dening health and safety objectives and developing policies and procedures. Therefore, the program will interest individuals with responsibility for health and safety, (e.g. Supervisors, Safety Co-coordinators, Occupational Health Nurses, Joint Health and Safety Committees members, etc.) who require broader legal and technical knowledge to function effectively in their occupation.

THE FOLLOWING ARE 3 SIMPLE WAYS OF GETTING STARTED IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY:
You can begin by applying for a job directly in the Civil Construction Industry. Once you begin working with a Construction Company or Contractor you will quickly gain the necessary skills needed to advance yourself through in-house, work-as-you-learn training. You can enrol in a University, Community College or a Private Technical School to study and prepare yourself for a Career in Civil Construction. All of this information may be found through our website. You can get started through an apprenticeship program by combining on the job training with technical in-class training gaining experience and increased responsibility. You can work in the industry, get paid and work towards earning credits.
