Fiji embassy celebrates triple anniversary T

he Fiji Embassy in China seized the opportunity to launch its re-developed website during the celebrations to mark Fijis 41st Independence anniversary, the 36th year of Fiji-China diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the opening of our embassy in Beijing. The upgrade was launched by the Deputy Director-General of the Department of North American and Oceania Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Madame Wu Xi . Ms Wu congratulated the people and the Government of the Republic of Fiji for celebrating another Independence Day anniversary. She highlighted that her department was working tirelessly with the Fiji Embassy in Beijing to promote and further enhance Fiji and Chinas growing bilateral relations. Fijis Ambassador to China, Commodore Esala Teleni said the need to upgrade and redevelop the embassys website was part of the move towards modernization and keeping up with the ever growing IT trend, particularly in China. We needed to upgrade our website because the biggest challenge in China is information technology and keeping abreast with the changes. We have hired a Chinese company to carry out the upgrade for us and our main objective is to have a physical presence online and bringing Fiji closer to the Chinese through the web, Commodore Teleni said. The Embassy First Secretary, Mr Josefa Tuima said it was inevitable to re-develop the website not only in terms of keeping up with the latest Information technology but to complement the work of the Embassy

Having basic information on the investment processes and investment packages offered for different sectors of the economy on the web is critical in attracting potential Chinese investors to Fiji. Part of the plan is to have bilingual simultaneous interpretation (English/Chinese) of all the information on the website and to be as informative as possible not only for the Chinese people but to all users, including our students from Fiji who are studying in China, he added.

Fiji continues to learn from successes and failures of the past to develop the nation. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola made the comments when hosting members of the diplomatic corps and locally-based regional and international agencies at the Holiday Inn in Suva to celebrate 41 years of Fijis independence. He said the world had seen immense changes and development in the last 41 years since Fijis independence on October 10, 1970. Issues, be it bilateral, regional or multilateral, the Fijian Government together with the international missions in Suva and agencies are applying local and global lessons in the best interest of Fijis sustainable development, Ratu Inoke said. The diplomatic community understands best that different local realities political, cultural and socio-economic are best understood through dialogue and engagement. It is in the spirit of dialogue that we (Fiji) seek to engage with each and every one of you, regardless of any differences we may have in the short term. We understand that we are sovereign states with our own priorities, shaped by individual histories and that short term differences are small blips in the greater strides for development. Ratu Inoke said the day of commemorating where Fiji had come from and where Fiji hoped to take into the future. I am happy that we can undertake this our partners in the international community, the minister said. Permanent secretaries are attending the development training at the Public Service Training Centre in Nasese. The two-day workshop focuses on Emotional Intelligence and Workshop Productivity. Public Service Commission permanent secretary, Parmesh Chand said the purpose of the workshop was to explore, delve deeper and gain better understanding of the functions and value of emotions in particular for leadership responsibilities. Management today believes that the success or failure in the running of organisations is directly related to their ability to work productively with employee emotions. Most importantly, we learn that key leadership skills and perspectives are related to aspects of emotional intelligence, Mr Chand said. In line with Pillar 3 of the Peoples Charter, Mr Chand said Government was adamant in nurturing leaders who were positive, visionary, transformative and constructive. Course facilitator, Ms Asena Yauyau of the Fiji National University added that emotional intelligence and self-awareness is key to leadership development and is a skill to handle stress. The absence of emotional intelligence can lead to career derailment. We have helped many leaders understand and develop emotional intelligence competencies, Ms Yauyau said. One way that we have successfully helped managers move beyond intellectual know how and expand their emotional intelligence is through Benchmarks. Ms Yauyau said leadership abilities vary according to the level of emotional intelligence, all of which were related to leadership effectiveness.

The Dawn Princess is an Australia-based cruise liner and approximately 2000 passengers arrived. Despite the rain, the tourists took time out to take a look at what Suva had to offer and many locals took advantage of this opportunity to sell their products. A local handicraft seller and tourist guide Apakuki Tabua said the sales of his items, in particular souvenirs, varied. Not many tourists bought items possibly because of having bought souvenirs at previous ports before coming to a stop in Suva, Mr Tabua said. The cruise liner is expected to visit other local ports like Savusavu, Dravuni (Kadavu) and Port Denarau in Nadi. With the cruise liner in the port, this gives the tourists a chance to come out and experience the town and seeing what Fiji has to offer.

The primary role of disaster risk reduction and disaster management is a shared responsibility that requires effective partnership between all levels of Government and other stakeholders, says the Minister for Transport & Works, Colonel Timoci Natuva. Launching the National Disaster Awareness Week and the National Disaster Management website, the minister said the adoption of a holistic and integrated whole of Government and whole of country approach together with the integration of disaster risk reduction and disaster management considerations into national policies, planning processes and decision making at all levels were critical. To complement the regional coordinated approach to disaster management, Government introduced in late 2009 the integrated approach to rural and outer island development, which essentially encourages a whole of government approach in disaster risk reduction in development planning, Colonel Natuva said. Statistics show that the country has disasters. The minister added that Government was mindful and committed to its obligations under the six thematic areas of the Hyogo Framework for Action. In commending all stakeholders and in particular the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) that contributed to the National Disaster Management website, Colonel Natuva said information management was a vital element of disaster risk reduction and disaster management and it was through the joint efforts of the Fijian Government and JICA that enabled the successful completion of the project. The dedication of the Disaster Awareness Week is marked by the United Nations International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR), which is October 13. The week forms part of the global awareness campaign of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction System to raise awareness of disaster risk reduction, spark public interest and ultimately help prevent, reduce and minimize loss and damage from disasters, Colonel Natuva said. For Fiji the National Disaster Awareness Week, with the theme Making Cities, Towns and Communities Resilient, will be held in Labasa since activities will be focused around the main centers of the Northern Division.

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore may have been spotted together at a Kabbalah center, but dont take this as a sign of reconciliation, a source tells. Earlier that same day, the actress consulted with a lawyer about getting a divorce, the insider claims. The discussion included her living arrangements and how a divorce would impact her assets. Both stars are worth over $100 million. This is a huge and very tough decision for Miss Moore to take. But her trust has been shattered, the mole adds, saying Moore didnt want to believe the rumors about Sara Leal were true, but photographic evidence of Kutcher partying in San Diego makes the story hard to ignore. The couple does seem to be making a last-ditch effort to stay together, however. The Insider has posted pictures of Demi and Ashton on a Santa Barbara.

byStanderS have obligation to perform cpr on heart attack victimS, phySicianS Say
Bystanders have a moral obligation to help heart attack victims, performing chest compressions even if theyve never been trained in CPR, emergency physicians say. Too many Canadians are dying because bystanders dont know what to do or fear CPR skills learned long ago are rusty, they say. In a renewed push to save lives, doctors are calling for strong inducements to give Canadians the training and willingness to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation if they witness a collapse. It must become a moral obligation and a social expectation that bystanders will perform CPR when they witness a cardiac arrest, the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians said in a position paper released Thursday. The victims of cardiac arrest will almost certainly die if lay witnesses do not intervene, the paper says. Each year, more than 20,000 people in Canada suffer a cardiac arrest and less than 2,000 survive. But while heart attack victims are three to four times more likely to survive if they receive prompt CPR, that association says. lives a year in Canada. It is not acceptable that vast numbers of witnessed cardiac arrest victims do not receive bystander CPR, the association said. Doctors say bystanders are reluctant to get involved because they either lack the training or they fear their CPR skills are rusty, leading to hesitation and inaction. But emergency doctors say CPR should a life skill known by every Canadian. To make that happen, the doctors are targeting young people, saying CPR training should be a pre-requisite to graduate from high school. Theyre urging tax breaks for companies that provide CPR training and individuals who take it. They want a focus on senior citizens, the population most likely to witness a cardiac arrest and be in a position to respond. And they say everyone has an obligation to act, even if theyve never been trained in CPR. All Canadians should respond and provide chest compressions (with or without mouth-to-mouth ventilation) whether they are trained or not, when an adult, child or infant suddenly collapses, the paper said.

Their ability to provide a balance between handling and comfort is impressive. Its electronic power steerings assistance is well judged and the brakes are served by good pedal feel. I enjoyed my time at the wheel of the Evoque far more than I expected. Its nimble body and tidy dimensions will looking for a multipurpose vehicle that is heavily stylish and a pleasure to drive. The Evoque will conquer many new hearts. Range Rover expects that as much as 80% to 90% of Evoque buyers will be new to the brand. It is clear that the Evoque, in the hands of its new owners, will rarely if ever see the back roads of the backcountry, but at least theyll know that nearly nothing will stop them when roving through the rough streets of downtown

2012 Range Rover Evoque

The Range Rover was created in 1970 as an alternative or hybrid vehicle that was as capable on the road as it was off. The recipe was an instant success and has worked brilliantly for the last four decades. The ingredients have changed little in that time: big, powerful engines, sophisticated 4WD systems and straight angles meeting every surface. As Range Rover faces the second decade of the 21st Century, it has decided to mix it up somewhat make that a whole heck of a lot. With evermore demanding environmental requirements and a desire and demand for dynamic styling, the lads in Gaydon, Warwickshire chiseled a shape never before considered for a Range Rover. After tumultuous relationships with BMW and Ford, Land Rover has been saved by the giant that is Tata. This Indian company has opened its mind and wallet ($11 billion great Jaguar and Land Rover makes, and has invested a considerable amount into the Evoque. I can tell you with certainty that it shows. Just look at the Evoque. body perfectly stretched over a well conceived chassis borrowing, but lightly, on the LR2/Freelander and its all Range Rover. It has an unsurpassed amount of panache and prestige for a vehicle in its category of which most comes from the the bonnet. Who doesnt want to drive a Range Rover? The idea of owning a Range Rover on a smaller scale with a decent starting price of will draw consumers into showrooms. Whether trimmed in Pure, Prestige or Dynamic, the Evoque serves up plenty of style and stance that keeps it from feeling cheap. From where I stand, the LR4 parked next to my Evoque is like a cousin from the same mother that seems rudimentary and plain by comparison. With 19 and 20 wheels on the menu, styles available, the Evoque has got lots going for it aesthetically. If the Coup is extra rear headroom, increased versatility slightly between trims. The Dynamic wins for emotional appeal with its deeper bumpers, enhanced rear spoiler and other add-ons. On the inside, other than the various colours of hide, nothing changes that is to say, its all good. The Evoques cabin is surprisingly roomy for front passengers, good for the rear. The materials used in these hip quarters are top-notch, not far from what youd expect in a $100,000+ Range Rover. The presentation and craftsmanship are a delight and enticing. The list of standard features is extensive and includes an 8 touchscreen, a 380Watt Meridian (same make as in the McLaren MP4-12C) audio system, heated steering wheel, front seats and windshield, keyless entry and push-button start, and much more. Sonnen wants rematch with anderson Silva on the ufcs Super bowl weekend card
Chael Sonnen swore the way he called out middleweight champion Anderson Silva after a UFC 136 victory over Brian Stann wasnt premeditated. second round and happened to see Silva, his Brazilian enemy, watching from the front row. As soon as Sonnen got a microphone in front of him, he challenged Silva to a rematch of their classic UFC 117 meeting. Silva stayed seated and smiled, which was not the response Sonnen had hoped for. He didnt even stand up to accept the challenge, Sonnen said. If the roles were reversed, I would have come up over the rail and shoved that microphone up his there and was like, boo-hoo. Sonnen is back. The tame demeanor he a rare opponent he liked and respected, went away seconds after the bout ended. Sonnen said he was happy with the performance, which saw him barely get hit and make use of his world-class wrestling skills with repeated takedowns. But it was destination. Im after 12 pounds of gold, and as far as Im concerned, that belt is not worth anything more than a piece of tin when its around (Silvas) waist, Sonnen said. I am the true middleweight champion. Sonnen even made a proposition to Silva. Sonnen said he would retire if Silva beat him again. Sonnen said if he won, Silva division forever. UFC President Dana White usually shakes his head and laughs off the outrageous rhetoric Sonnen spits at this point. But White challenged one of Sonnens points just as badly. I think some of the things hes said have it wouldnt be held at the 110,000-person capacity Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. One reason is because Sonnen proposed Super Bowl weekend 2012 as the date enough time to allow Silva to recover from a shoulder injury. The annual Super Bowl show is always wouldnt change next year. He wouldnt promise to deliver the bout on the card but made it sound like a distinct possibility. Were playing for keeps this time, Sonnen said. The 14-month layoff Sonnen went through after testing positive for high testosterone levels and going through a legal battle involving a money laundering conviction had no ill effects. I had the same problem with Chael that everyone has had with him and that his future opponents will have, Stann said. I thought I was strong enough to handle dont want Chael Sonnen on top of you. Its a good step in the right direction, Crosby said immediately after the 30-minute practice. Its a big step ... its a big one and well see how things go. However, Crosby neither threw nor took any checks during the practice, which was focused on skating and shooting drills. Crosby joked that he might have to incite his teammates into hitting him. When a guy comes back from injury youre usually a little hesitant. Thats pretty normal. I might have to do something to get them to hit me. Maybe Ill have to bump them a little bit and get them going. As close to a game situation as we can get it, he told reporters.
