The project dealt with the estimation and reduction of losses in radial
distribution systems. Out of the many methods for reduction of losses in
distribution systems, the methods of shunt compensation and feed point
relocation for reduction of loss were considered. As a part of the project,
algorithms were developed and elaborate programs written using
MATLAB software to apply the above-mentioned methods to simulated
systems and observe the reduction in losses. The programs were
applied to practical system data. A considerable reduction in the system
loss could be observed.
