Study of Impact of Technology Intelligence on X-ray System Development in GE Healthcare

By R. Balachandar MBA IV Sem Roll No: 0702MBA1012 Introduction: The most effective organization in todays business world goes beyond a companys technology boundaries and explores whats going on in the outside world in terms of technologies, products, strategies, innovations, leadership and how this information can be harnessed and applied to internal product innovation and development. In organization like GE Healthcare, a global leader in medical systems, Technology intelligence helps identify potential opportunities and reduces risks by scanning the landscape for competition. Such surveillance activities are especially valuable when pursuing research and development activities that require significant human and financial capital. In this way, there is always a course for remedial action if such a need arises. Technology Intelligence (TI) is actionable knowledge and foreknowledge arising from systematic processes involving gathering, analyzing, hypothesizing and disseminating information on external scientific or technological developments, opportunities and threats that may affect a companys competitive position (defined by its strengths and weaknesses). The purpose of this study is to find out how the technology intelligence impacts the organization and how it helps gaining competitive advantage. Problem Statement: Organizations face enormous pressure to stay current in terms of innovative technology and simultaneously to maintain their competitive advantage. The problem is, it is usually difficult to define how technology intelligence will impact the organization and the organization do not know the whether the executing the decisions made through technology intelligence can potentially provide a competitive advantage or not. The hypothesis proposed is that organizations are aware of technological developments, and the potential competitive advantage that may be achieved if the decision is executed efficiently. Information is not intelligence. Intelligence is knowledge and foreknowledge, which uses information as raw material to create a useful output for decision- making. The study will address the following questions: Are the team members aware of the technology developments and opportunities, and how they collect technology intelligence. what is the business value of technology intelligence will the existing hardware and software architecture be able to accommodate the new technology

will the technology intelligence have an impact on organizational business process and procedures what is the relationship between the x-ray system developed by the organization and the customers of the organization. How the Intellectual Property is related to the technology intelligence How the technology intelligence impacts the x-ray system business strategy Objective: The main objective of this study is to determine the impact of technology intelligence on organization and how technology intelligence gives competitive advantage, within the context of x-ray system of GE Healthcare. To identify the primary objectives of X-ray System development team in using Technology Intelligence. To study the process involved in Technology Intelligence of X-ray System To identify the benefits/competitive advantages gained by X-ray System development team by using the Technology Intelligence and its tools. Research Methodology: The research will be based on a qualitative case study research methodology. A case study of X-ray system development in GE Healthcare, will be undertaken to understand the technology intelligence as a phenomenon. The case study will focus on qualitative results supported by descriptive statements. Questionnaire will be used to collect information on the current state of the impact of technology intelligence in GE Healthcare in the X-ray system business sector. Literature Survey will provide the theoretical background against which the study will be conducted referring to relevant information that has been published previously. For an extensive research on the subject, major literatures on Technology Intelligence and X-ray systems would be reviewed. Scope: The technology intelligence is applicable to various industries like telecommunication, medical, aerospace. The scope is limited to the medical industry and in particular X-ray system business in GE HealthCare. The study will be based on the data collected from the Xray system development team in GE Healthcare. The scope excludes the detailed description of X-ray system architectures, description of GE Healthcare strategic management, Information about GE Healthcare competitors. Expected Deliverables The expected outcomes of this study are Ways in which the organization is impacted by technology intelligence Benefits and competitive advantage gained using technology intelligence.
