The document discusses the purpose of educational testing and different types of tests. It describes grade inflation as an increase in assigned grades over time that is disconnected from academic standards. An aptitude test battery is defined as a group of aptitude tests aimed at assessing the same functions. Classroom teachers must make instructional decisions, grading decisions, and diagnostic decisions. Norm-referenced tests are suited for grading, diagnostic decisions, selection, placement, counseling, establishing curriculum and programs, administrative policy, promotion, and graduation. Criterion-referenced tests are best for instructional decisions, grading, diagnosis, selection, placement, and determining curriculum and programs.
