CARYL MCNEILL SERVICE UNIT September 19, 2011 MEETING MINUTES

ROLLER SKATING PARTY - sample permission slip was distributed. The event will be at the Roller Palace, 11586 Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia 19116 on October 30, 2011 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost $4 for admission plus $3 if you need to rent skates. During the Skate Party we will be having a Bake Sale and request that each troop donate one bake good item that can be sold to raise money for the Service Unit. SWIMMING NIGHT We are planning a swim night at the NE Community Center located at 2840 Holme Avenue Philadelphia. Date and time to be determined but will be on a Sunday in November and will run from approximately 2:30-4:30 Web Site Thanks to Kim Adair, we have a Service Unit website at http://carylmcneill.wikispaces.com. The website has a contact form that can be completed by girls interested in joining Girl Scouts. Face Book Group Pages thanks to Laura Feldman we also have a Caryl McNeill Group page in Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/groups/175415512536513/. This is a closed group only for leaders in the service unit and can be used to chat and post items of interest regarding your troop activities or to ask a question. On the page is a button for you to ask to join the group. A Girl Scout alumnae group page was set up at http://www.facebook.com/groups/250462061655502/ this might serve as a vehicle to recruit new leaders. 100th ANNIVERSARY Marion shared with us the planning of the council events for the Anniversary including: - - BRIDGING INTO THE NEXT CENTURY 11/13/2011 - walking across the Ben Franklin bridge and then going to Campbells Field for a special celebration CENTURY OF THE GIRL EXPO - April 21-22, 2012at the Pa Convention Center an event planer is being used, the 2nd day will include the older girls award ceremony, big name guest are expected to attend FOREVER GREEN - one special event will be on 6/2 for National Trails Day festivities at Valley Forge National Historical Park's Betzwood Picnic Area. There will be an environmental project, girls can work on the Jr. Park Ranger Badge, and there will be demos on backpacking, kayaking, etc. GREAT GIRL SCOUT HIKE - there is a larger hike planed that will start on March 12, 2012 and end on October 31, 2012 along the Appalachian Trial from Main to Georgia. GSEP is planning to hike a portion of the trail during the FALL of 2012 (see the website at http://www.gshike.org/) NATIONAL TRAILS DAY June 2, 2012 Valley Forge National Park a day of trail education, hiking, and service projects

CMSU SEPTEMBER 2011 MINUTES 10,000 TREES the goal is to plant 10,000 trees in our various communities by Earth Day 2012. Northeast Tree Tenders is a voluntary organization that can help in our efforts including providing you with a free tree. (website http://netreetenders.com/) OLAVE BADEN-POWELL SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING - May 16-20, 2012 GSEP is hosting their annual meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Philadelphia. Council is looking for some volunteers to play a supporting role.

These events are still in the planning stage and more information will follow including details as to cost. Our Service Unit is planning events for the 100 Anniversary as well. We are looking at having an outdoor event at Lorimer Park that will include food, activities, etc to be scheduled in April or May of 2012. It was suggested that participants bring a food donation that will be donated to a food bank. Roller Skating Party - Call in # of people attending to Nancy Smith or Donna Vito ASAP (prior to next meeting) so that the correct number of patches can be ordered.

QSP - - - - permission form needed for each girl participating in the sale troop receives 75 cents for each nut or candy unit sold, 10% of magazine sales, and $3 for each coupon book of 10 addresses completed sale runs from 9/19/2011 to 10/24/2011 Troop orders need to be entered via the website by 10/17 at www.ashdonfarmsnut.com and to Donna at the next service unit meeting on 10/17. See instructions on the front of the Troop QSP envelop. Also a tutorial is on the GSEP website as to how to input the order product to be delivered between 11/14 to 11/18 by 12/5/2011 funds must be deposited
