Technology has the potential to remove barriers for learners everywhere.

Powerful internet resources are improving access to knowledge. New and creative ways to teach and learn are inflowing the classroom. The electrical resources in this site are equipped to supply learners with the need for proficiency in collaboration, communication skills and managing of information

THE SUMMARY OF IMPORTANT LEARNING CONTENT THAT LEARNERS SHOULD LEARN FROM THE RESOURCES PAGE

The learners resources for Electrical Technology is compiled to guide learners into Outcomes Based Education (OBE) in an intergraded manner and to move away from the traditional way of learning.

Static electricity sites help to expand students concepts about atoms and how they relate to static electricity. In this website resources, students are helped to perform some simple experiments to demonstrate how opposite charges attract each other and like charges repel each other. Then, students explore a website further for explanation of these concepts. Students explore a variety of websites to learn about lightning and then explain in their own words what causes lightning and how it is related to static electricity.

The resources will introduce students to light and heavy currents. Used by most learners throughout the world, the resources have proven to keep students attention while keeping them learning basic electronics and electrical concepts. The basic electrical concepts that will be acquired by learners are current, voltage and resistance. The resources provide background to learners and give them the opportunity of handling power supply circuits, amplifiers, oscillators and operation of electronic apparatus with confidence. Students will learn about how components work and perform the simulation of fun working circuits. The websites resources introduce students to the basics of semiconductors, explain to learners the function of semiconductors and also describe the basic differences between intrinsic and doped semiconductors. Diodes are one of the most basic forms of

semiconductors. These sites show students how diodes are constructed and how they operate. The students will learn how current flows through these different
materials. The resources state the advantages of semiconductor devices over previous components used in electronic circuits. These resources introduce students to the characteristics and interactions of the three elements of a bipolar transistor. It also explains the amplification process. The rationalise system of units has been used in some of the website resources. The students will learn about symbols, abbreviations and taxonomy in accordance with the recommendations of Union of International System of Units. It is impossible for learners to acquire a thorough understanding of electrical principles without working out large number of numerical problems, and while the resources encourages this, the website resources also persuade learners to express solutions in a way that is readily intelligible to others.

Students will learn how to calculate the resistance of very small resistors by making use of colour codes and why their values are not printed. They will learn about a four and five band resistors and their tolerances. The modules are designed to allow students to gain hands on experience with adding resistance values in series and in parallel. The students are then asked to measure the resistances with both an ohmmeter and also by measuring current and voltage and applying Ohms law to obtain a measured resistance. The resources allow students to see differing results and make them think about reasons the values might not match. Students are asked to conclude what has caused the differences in the values.
