The only way to identify what is considered to be abnormal behavior is to consider the situational context in which it occurs; behaviors

that are normal in one context may be abnormal in another Additionally, abnormal behavior is usually most understandable when viewed in the context of life history and life events. Conclusively, demographic context variables such as age, gender, culture, and class influence the definition, classification, explanation, and treatment of abnormal behaviors (Hansell, & Damour, 2008). In looking at the influences that blur the line drawn between normal and abnormal the influences of television play a major impact on the concept of normalcy. As a society we depend on communication, which influences, impacts, and drives our day. For some the first things that they do is either watch or listen to the news while for others it may wrap up their day. Mass media is owned by 5 major companies they are: Time Warner, VIACOM, Vivendi Universal, Walt Disney, and News Corp, which own 95% of all media. Daily we are subjected to over thousands of images of violence, advertising, sex, celebrity crap and tons more. The impact of what is considered normal is set up by the very existence that highly influences it. Makes you think, a blue pill would return us to our old life, and a red pill would allow us to learn the answers we seek. Hansell, James, & Damour, Lisa. (2008). Abnormal psychology [2nd Edition].
