Introduction

This document contains the procedures to install and configure the UNIX V5.1 Operating System (OS) and all software for the APACS+ Process Supervisor (APS) and its subsequent workstations and X Terminals. Some of the operations described in this document require a basic skill level with the UNIX operating system. It is assumed that the user is able to log on to a UNIX system as a superuser, is able to perform basic file commands (change directories, move files, etc.), and has familiarity with the tar command. This document applies to all Compaq/DEC UNIX servers and workstations. 1.1 Product Support

Product support can be obtained from a Technical Information Center (TIC). Each regional TIC is a customer service center that provides direct telephone support on technical issues related to the functionality, application, and integration of all products supplied by Siemens. Regional TIC contact information is provided in Table 1-1. Your regional TIC is the first place you should call when seeking product support information. When calling, it is helpful to have the following information ready: Product part number or model number and version If there is a problem with product operation: - Whether or not the problem is intermittent - The steps performed before the problem occurred - Any error messages or LED indications displayed - Installation environment

Customers that have a service agreement (ServiceSuite or Field Service Agreement) are granted access to the secure area of our Web site (http://www.smpa.siemens.com/TechServices/TechLibrary.asp). This area contains a variety of product support information. To log on, you will be prompted to enter your username and password.

Before installing the APACS+ Process Supervisor, refer to the document APACS+ Process Supervisor (APS) Release Notes (SG39APS-13) for information on compatibility and other concerns that may impact the installation process. The APACS+ Process Supervisor is comprised of several different pieces of software, some of which are from Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. and some from other third party companies (refer to Table 21 Major Software Components). Table 21 Major Software Components PACKAGE Operating System RTAP SUPPLIER Compaq Equipment Corporation Hewlett Packard M/O M DESCRIPTION APS is supported for the Compaq UNIX operating systems. A Hewlett Packard software tool kit that provides a real time database and tools for building and maintaining the database. RTAP includes tools for creating graphical displays. This is a packaged version of the Tcl/Tk language. Tcl/Tk is an interpreted language. The Tcl/Tk interpreter and supporting software are freely available. CPU, Inc. provides Tcl/Tk in a built and easily installed format. This is an extension to the Tcl/Tk programming language that provides access to the RTAP database within Tcl/Tk scripts. Early versions of this package were known simply as SCL. More recent versions are known as SCL-R. Functionally, these are equivalent. This is an extension to the Tcl/Tk programming language that provides access to previous installation PI historical databases. This is a software package for displaying real time and historical data trends. This software package transfers data from the RTAP database to the PI historian (see below). Direktor is a collection of software utilities that provide a means for implementing and maintaining complex batch process control strategies. Direktor is optional in a basic APACS+ Process Supervisor system.

Hardware Setup

3.0

Hardware Setup

The following prerequisites are required prior to installing any software. 3.1 Setting Reset/Halt Option

Compaq/Dec Alpha Servers typically have a Power, Halt and a Reset button on the front panel. The middle button is the Halt button. Compaq/DEC Alpha Stations typically have one button that can be set to be a Halt or a Reset button. The factory default is always set for the button to perform a reset. This is OK for Windows NT, but needs to be changed for UNIX. On most Alpha Stations, as the 255 series, there is an 8-position DIP switch. Older models may have a jumper. Typically there is a chart of jumper and switch positions located on top of the CD-ROM Drive, or on the inside cover. Reference this chart or the appropriate Users Guide to determine how to change this switch to be a Halt button. To configure the Halt/Reset button for Halt function (Alpha Station 255): 1. Remove the top cover and left side panel of the Alpha Station 255. Refer to the Compaq AlphaStation 255 Family User Information Book, Chapter 4, Opening and Closing the System Cover for details. 2. Locate the 8-position DIP switch bank S1 then toggle DIP switch 4 to the OFF position. 3.1.1 Reviewing the System Configuration

Press the Halt button to get to a >>> prompt. This is the SRM console prompt. Enter the show config command. Using this command displays a list of devices found on the system and I/O buses. This list also shows the locations of boards that are important for making the proper cabling connections. The following example was output from an AlphaServer 4000. Your output may vary depending on hardware type and configuration.

Software Packaging

4.0

Software Packaging

The APS related software is distributed in the form of a CD or tapes or, for the purposes of electronic transfer, can be distributed in the form of tar files or compressed tar files. A tape or tar file can contain one or more software kits. Table 41 lists these software distribution packages and the individual software kits that each package contains. The column labeled Directory is the sub-directory where the software kit will reside once its extracted from the software package. The software will also be packaged on one or more CDs. The filenames on the CD will be similar to, but not the same as, the installation directory. The CDs need to be made in ISO 9660 format to be compatible between PCs and the UNIX Operating System. For this reason the filenames have to be 8.3 format. The .tgz suffix stands for tared and gziped. The commands for extracting these files would be as follows: 1. Mount the CD
mount r -t cdfs o noversion /dev/disk/cdromXc /mnt

(where X is the SCSI ID of the CD, typically 4 or 5 or 0.) 2. Uncompress and extract the files to your current directory. This is usually /usr/tmp, but some kits, like the APS Software, may be extracted directly to the /usr/opt directory. 3. This example will continue by putting the TCL/TK kit into /usr/tmp.

Installation Overview

5.0

Installation Overview
NOTE It is recommended that the installer log directly into the root account rather than using the su command from another account.

The installation of APS software involves the extraction of the software from the distribution tape or file to a temporary location on disk, then performing the appropriate installation commands (use the applicable commands according to the software kit that is being installed). The installation is performed using a terminal window logged in under the root (also called superuser) account. The installation process depends on the type of platform on which APS is being installed or upgraded. There are separate sections describing the platform specific installation steps for Compaq UNIX platforms and HP-UX platforms. Refer to the sections that are appropriate for the platform on which APS is to be installed. There are two types of installations, new installations and upgrades of existing installations. The two types of installations are basically the same. The following sections describe the process for an update type installation. For new installations the steps related to checking and modifying any RTAP environments that exist on the system can be ignored. NOTE The installation process for APS version 3.0 differs from previous versions. Read the installation instructions prior to installing APS version 3.0. Some systems may not have a graphical console. In these cases, a dumb terminal is often used in place of a root console. There are some utilities that are described that require a graphics window for the root superuser. Any of the Xterminals can be used by the root superuser if it has an entry in /etc/securettys. For example, insert the following line in /etc/securettys in order to log into HMI#12. HMI#12 has an entry in the /etc/hosts file as HMI12. Change the name to the desired terminal HMI12:0. Now you may log onto that terminal as root with the superuser password and run any Xwindow Application. Most utilities that require a graphics terminal have a text-based counterpart applications. For instance, the System Configuration Checklist utility calls programs like netconfig, nfsconfig, lprconfig, and lmfconfig. Some of the legacy Digital UNIX 3.2G counterparts: netsetup, nfssetup, lprsetup, and lmfsetup, still function and may be used from a dumb terminal console. n

11.3 Installing the APS CPU Inc. Software Package The APS CPU Inc. Software Package includes individual software installation kits (refer to Table 111) Table 111 APS CPU Inc. Software Package SOFTWARE KIT CPU TCL/TK Version 8.83 REQUIRED/OPTIONAL This is a package version of the Tcl/Tk programming language. Tcl/Tk is an interpreted language. The Tcl/Tk interpreter and supporting software are freely available. CPU, Inc. provides Tcl/Tk in a prebuilt and easily installed form. This is an extension to the Tcl/Tk programming language that provides access to the RTAP database within Tcl/Tk scripts. PlotServer provides historical trend displays of data collected by a PI historian. It can also be used for realtime trend displays as an alternative to the real-time trending capability included with RTAP. SCL PI Extension adds PI support to the Tcl/Tk language. It is needed if the PI historian is to be included in the APACS+ Process Supervisor system. RTAP2PI allows a PI historian to collect data from an RTAP database. Installation of RTAP2PI is only necessary when a APACS+ Process Supervisor system is to be used in conjunction with a PI system.

SG39APS-14

Software Application Installation

11.11.1

Extracting the Software onto the System

1. If using software delivered on tape, place the APS. Software Package tape into the tape drive and use the following commands:
cd /usr/opt tar x

NOTE If the software is not already in the /usr/tmp directory, first move the distribution file to /usr/tmp. 2. If the software was delivered electronically to the /usr/tmp directory, uncompress and extract it with the following commands:
cd /usr/opt gunzip c /usr/tmp/APS0300.tgz | tar xv gunzip c /usr/tmp/APSUP600.tgz | tar xv

3. If the software is on CD extract it with the following commands.

mount r t cdfs o noversion /dev/disk/cdrom0c /mnt cd /usr/opt tar xf /mnt/aps/aps0300.tar tar xpf /mnt/aps/apsup600.tar

11.11.2

Update the /usr/moore Directory Link

The top level directory for the APS software is /usr/moore. This directory is used as a link that points to the directory tree where the software is located. This directory link needs to be changed to point to the new APS software tree. Prior to making the change, note the location and name of the old directory tree. Use the following commands to display the current link and change it to the new location:
cd /usr ln -s /usr/opt/APS0300-xx moore

where xx is the APS minor revision number if any.

11.11.3

Set Up APS Support Software

Proceed as follows: 1. Set up the APS Support software using the following script:
/usr/moore/etc/newconfig/install/APSSUPInstall /usr/opt/APSSUP0600 This script renames any of the support software directories under the /usr/local directory, to have names with the suffix .old. The script then creates links from the /usr/local directory to the support software directories, under the /opt/APSSUPxxxx directory. Ignore an cp command file or directory not found errors.

11.11.4

Set Up APS Software

The APS software must be set up prior to use, using the following script:
/usr/moore/etc/newconfig/install/APSinstall

This script issues a series of prompts that require information from the installer. The script then performs activities related to setting up the system and the APS software. The APSinstall script provides default answers for most of the questions that it issues. In most cases, the default answers can be accepted. The APSinstall script can be invoked at a later time to change some of the setup options. An annotated sample installation session appears in the following sections. The following will aid in deciding how to answer APSinstall questions: APSinstall is a korn shell script which must be run after any new software or patches are installed. It must be run as the last step before attempting to start or create an environment. Each version of APS has a new APSinstall and can be found in /usr/opt/APSX.XX-xx/etc/newconfig/install. It is responsible for many installation and configuration steps including: Setting up new environment variables and paths. Checking and installing links to the latest third party library and program files. Checking and installing user accounts. Security and ownership issues. Tuning kernel parameters for RTAP ( A reboot is required for kernel parameters to take affect. This must be done before any environments can be created. )

When running APSinstall, always check and make sure that none of the lines are prefaced with Error. If this does happen, read the error message and correct the problem and re-run APSinstall. APSinstall can be run as many times as necessary, with no as the answer for all parts except for the section which you are interested in completing. In many cases you may Ctrl C after this part is complete. The following is the complete output of an APSinstall from APS 3.0 run on a new system. A description of all steps follows. APSinstall-Info: The directory /usr/moore is linked to /usr/opt/APS0300-00 APSinstall-Info: This version of APS includes support for RTAP database mirroring.
