Studying or working off site

If you are studying or working away from campus, we want to help you make the best use of our resources and services. Our Support OffSite service (S.O.S) is available to all registered part-time students, full-time students who are on a placement, and academic staff working off campus. Posting items to you
We are happy to post books and photocopies to UK addresses. As we use the Special Delivery service, a signature will be required when you receive these items so you might prefer to have them delivered to your place of work. Please make sure that we have the correct address for you. When you post books back to us, please use the Special Delivery service, as this insures any claim for loss or damage. The item is your responsibility until it is safely returned to us.

Keeping in touch
Support Off-Site (S.O.S.) is a proactive service. We tell our off-campus customers about new resources and Library developments by email (S.O.S Update), and through our website. If you are a registered full-time student who is leaving the University to begin a placement or a member of staff working off campus, you can also take advantage of this service. Email us and we will be in touch.

We offer a dedicated service and aim to respond speedily to your enquiries and requests. We can: post our books, reports and theses to you (UK only) send journal articles and conference papers to you that we hold in stock (UK and overseas) offer advice and guidance when you are searching for information help you to obtain items through our interlibrary loans service if we do not hold them in stock and they are not available electronically

Supporting you in using our resources

When you are studying off campus, with the pressures of work and family, it is easy to forget how to use the range of resources that are available to you. We can provide refresher training for you to help you find the material you need, send you guidelines, or just talk you through the process of accessing the resources on the telephone. All you need to do is contact us and we will provide what you need in the most appropriate and timely way.

Using other university libraries

The SCONUL Access scheme includes 170 UK universities and enables students to use other university libraries for studying. You can check whether a university near you is a member by visiting the SCONUL Access website: www.access.sconul.ac.uk/. To become a SCONUL Access Scheme member, please contact us and we will help you to register. We advise that before visiting another university library, you contact them and ask what resources will be available to you.
