INTRODUCTION
The Truth & Beauty Lab Smart Dance Pole is scripted with the Pandorabot METAbolt Add-On and configured for use as a dance pole. As such, it is an artificially intelligent dance pole that can query Wikipedia, deliver notecards/landmarks, act as a spell checker, send email, monitor and send Group IM's, and chat entertainingly with your visitors. Oh, it's also a dance pole! The pole is designed to be used by a bot logged in via METAbolt but, when not in use, any avatar can "sit" on the pole and dance. To setup your Truth & Beauty Lab Smart Dance Pole for use with a METAbolt avatar: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Create a Second Life account with Scripted Agent Status set to bot Install METAbolt on a Windows computer and enable Auto Sit Drag the Smart Dance Pole from your inventory to the desired location Right click the pole and select "Edit"; Click the "Contents" tab of the edit window Edit the Configuration notecard and set FIRST_NAME and LAST_NAME Drag desired animations from your inventory into the dance pole Contents Set the "Description" field of the dance pole to your dance bot avatar's Key Place your dance pole bot avatar within 10 meters of the pole Login your dance pole bot with METAbolt

Each of these steps will be explained in detail below.

SETUP
Step 1 - Create a Second Life account with Scripted Agent Status set to bot Visit http://secondlife.com/ , click the Join Now button and follow the same procedure you used to create your original Second Life account only with a different user name and setting the Scripted Agent Status to bot. If you wish to fix your newly created alt up a bit before deploying it, login to Second Life as your alt and modify appearance, clothing, shape, skin, etc as desired. You may also wish to create a few clothing folders with everything you want your bot wearing (including attachments like hair, shoes, facelight, ). Create these in the system Clothing folder as subfolders. Later you will be able to change outfits via the dialog menu (see Outfit Folder UUID's in the Pandorabot METAbolt Add-On Manual).

Step 2 - Install METAbolt on a Windows computer and enable Auto Sit If you have not already done so, visit http://www.metabolt.net/ and download the free METAbolt client. Follow the installation instructions and, after successfully installing METAbolt, run the client. Auto sit must be enabled by clicking Application -> Preferences -> General and checking the Enable Auto Sit upon login box. Click Apply and OK. Step 3 - Drag the Smart Dance Pole from your inventory Login to Second Life as yourself (not the bot avatar you created in Step 1) and go to the location where you want to place the dance pole. Left click on the Smart Dance Pole in your inventory, hold the click down and drag the dance pole to where you want it. Release the left mouse button to rez the dance pole in that location. You can adjust the placement by editing the dance pole (right click and select Edit) and using the red, blue, and green arrows. NOTE: The Smart Dance Pole must be located in an area that allows scripts. Step 4 - Right click the pole, select "Edit", click the "Contents" tab Right click the dance pole and select "Edit". Click the "Contents" tab of the edit window. The Contents tab of the Edit window is where you will find the Smart Dance Pole scripts, configuration notecards, documentation, and any animations you add. Step 5 - Set FIRST_NAME and LAST_NAME in Configuration notecard While you are in the Contents tab of the dance pole edit window, right click on the Configuration notecard and select Edit. At the beginning of the notecard edit window you will see the default Pandorabot Configuration settings: FIRST_NAME = Bot_First_Name LAST_NAME = Bot_Last_Name NAME_ENABLED = TRUE TEXT_ENABLED = FALSE RESTRICTED_ACCESS = 1 HOVER_ENABLED = FALSE GREET_ENABLED = FALSE Change Bot_First_Name to the dance bot avatar's first name and Bot_Last_Name to the dance bot avatar's last name. Click Save and exit the notecard editing window.

Step 6 - Drag desired animations into the dance pole Contents You can load any dance animations you would like to use in the dance pole. If you want to be able to switch between dance, stand, and sit animations via the dialog menu then you must name your animations as follows: Dance animations must contain the string "dance" in their name. Stand animations must contain the string "stand" in their name. Sit animations must contain the string "sit" in their name. The string is case-insensitive and can appear anywhere in the name (e.g. spindance, SpinDance, and SPINDANCE are all valid dance animation names). To rename an animation in your inventory, right click on the animation and select Rename. Alternately, you can simply load your animations in the dance pole without renaming them and ignore the dialog menu otions to specify animation type. The Truth & Beauty Lab recommends renaming animations according to type. Drag your selected animations from your inventory into the dance pole Contents. You can often find inexpensive dance pole animations on the Second Life Marketplace (e.g. at http://tinyurl.com/3fotfk5 ). Step 7 - Set the "Description" field to your dance bot avatar's Key Click the "General" tab of the edit window. Set the "Description" field to your dance bot avatar's Key. If you are using one of the third party viewers (e.g. Phoenix) that does not use the new web profiles then the Key of your alt can be found at the top of his/her/its profile. If you are using the new Viewer 2/3 from Second Life then unfortunately the web profiles do not display the avatar Key. Here are some ways for Viewer 2/3 users to locate an avatar's Key: - Login to Second Life with METAbolt; Click the Search then People tabs; Enter the avatar name in the search field and click Search; Click on the avatar's name you are searching for and then click Profile; The avatar's Key will be displayed as the UUID. - Outside the viewer go to https://my.secondlife.com and log in. Now go to the profile you want. Click the Actions button, then right-click on IM and copy the link. the Key is in there, between "agent/" and "/im" - Inside Viewer 2/.3: Go to preferences, Chat leaf, and check "Enable plain text IM and chat history". Now, when you receive IM or chat, you can right click on the name and use "Copy SLurl to clipboard", that will have the Key in it. After you have copied the dance pole bot avatar's Key to the description field, close the edit window and proceed to the next step.

Step 8 Place your dance pole bot avatar within 10 meters of the pole Log your dance bot avatar in with a standard viewer (e.g. Phoenix or Viewer 2). Go to within 10 meters of the dance pole. Dress (or undress) as you wish your dance bot to appear, remove any AO, and log out. Step 9 - Login your dance pole bot with METAbolt Start METAbolt on your Windows desktop. Enter the dance bot avatar's first name, last name, and password. In the Location field select My Last Location. Click Login.

OPTIONAL POST SETUP CONFIGURATION

Your Truth & Beauty Lab Dance Pole is a fully fledged Pandorabot METAbolt Add-On so there are a host of configuration options not covered in this manual. To familiarize yourself with all the various options download the PDF Pandorabots Owner Manual and the Pandorabot METAbolt Add-On Manual. A few common changes you may wish to make are covered here. Dance Bot Chat Response By default your dance bot will respond to local chat within 20 meters that contains either her first or last names. You can reconfigure the bot to respond to all local chat within 20 meters by editing the Configuration notecard and setting NAME_ENABLED = FALSE Dance Bot Menu and Chat Access By default your dance bot will listen and respond to all Second Life residents within 20 meters. To restrict the bot's chat to the owner, edit the Configuration notecard and set OWNER_LISTEN_ONLY = TRUE By default your dance bot will only allow the owner to access the configuration and shutoff menu. You can open configuration access to the dance pole's group by editing the Configuration notecard and setting RESTRICTED_ACCESS = 2 or to all residents by setting RESTRICTED_ACCESS = 0 METAbolt_Config Notecard Settings The notecard METAbolt_Config in the Contents of the dance pole controls options for

the Pandorabot METAbolt integration. At the top of this notecard are these settings: DURATION = 60.0 INVISIBLE_BASE = FALSE RESIZE = FALSE TARGET = <0.0,0.0,-0.6> The DURATION setting controls how long each dance will last (in seconds). Your dance bot will cycle through each dance animation you load into the dance pole, spending DURATION number of seconds on each dance. The TARGET setting controls where in relation to the dance pole your bot will sit. You can adjust the position of the bot avatar on the dance pole by changing this setting. The setting is a triplet that determines the sit target. Each avatar, due to differing sizes and gender, may sit slightly differently. Adjust this to give your dance bot a better pole fit. WARNING: Do not change the INVISIBLE_BASE or RESIZE settings. If you do then your dance pole will be reconfigured as a box. If this happens you will have to rez another copy of the dance pole and go through the setup procedure again. Enabling the Greeter By default the greeter is disabled. Your dance bot can act as a greeter, chatting a welcome message and delivering a notecard and/or landmark. If you wish to enable the Greeter then edit the Configuration notecard and set GREET_ENABLED = TRUE. You will also need to edit the Greeter_Config notecard to specify your message and what you want delivered. In Greeter_Config set GREET_ENABLED = TRUE and one or more of: GIVE_LANDMARK = TRUE GIVE_NOTECARD = TRUE GIVE_NAMED_NOTECARD = TRUE See the Pandorabots Owner Manual for full Greeter documentation. Customizing the Dance Pole Appearance The Truth & Beauty Lab Smart Dance Pole is a 2 prim object with Modify/Copy/No Transfer permissions. To change the color or texture of the dance pole, edit the dance pole. Check the Edit linked parts box and click the Texture tab. Click on the prim you wish to modify (either the pole or the base). Click on the Texture panel (colored square) and select a texture from your inventory. To use the new texture you have selected, click Select. Repeat this process for the second prim.
