The two sides of act of communication are; Encoding

- internal processing of information or feelings you want to share.


Then it is sent through either spoken or written

words, which completes encoding.

Decoding - receiving and interpreting what was sent.

When the recipient confirm receipt to the sender it

completes the communication loop.


It is effective communication only when the recipient

receives the communication the same way it was intended to be understood by the sender

The primary purpose of listening is to truly

understand the other persons point of view, how they think and feel and how they move through the world ( Zeuz & Skiffington, 2000)
The coach listens to what motivates the client, what

lightens them, what gets in the way


Basically the coach listens to the unique individual

The coach listens to what the client says with regards to his/her agenda The coach listens to the multiple levels of what the client is saying including emotional and depth of the content of the words being used The coach also listens to what is not being said

Powerful Questions

A powerful questions has the ability to stop you in

the tracks it is the Aha moment


It makes you think

It helps change perspective


A powerful question comes from listening to the

client, not from within the coach

learning style of the client

Prabha Chandrasekhar, has been coaching for the past 7 years. Currently, she is full time with the International Coach Academy and
