ST. GENEVIEVE (Slidell): Father Roel Lungay will lead a day of prayer and
reflection Nov. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. and ending with the 5 p.m. Mass.
Parishioners are asked to participate and pray for healing and restoration of the
parish and parish families. There will be adoration in the votive shrine from 11
a.m. to 5 p.m… Knights of Columbus Council 9769 held a successful dinner Oct.
21.
ST. HUBERT (Garyville): The parish will celebrate a special Thanksgiving vigil
Mass for all parish families Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m., followed by hot bread and
butter and wine reception… About 30 new houses are being constructed within
the territorial boundaries of the parish.
ST. JAMES MAJOR (New Orleans): The parish hall is being renovated… Ev-
eryone is rejoicing that a traffic light at Gentilly Boulevard and Lafaye Street is
now operating… The Sodality will meet in the rectory after the 10 a.m. Mass
Nov. 5... CCD classes are held each Sunday in the rectory at 9 a.m.
ST. JANE DE CHANTAL (Abita Springs): The parish held a farewell dinner Oct.
29 for Father Quentin Moody, who had been in residence since July. He is
leaving to become the new administrator of St. Augustine parish… Bishop Roger
Morin will confirm more than 30 teenagers Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
ST. JEROME (Kenner): Father James Jeanfreau will be installed as new pastor
Nov. 5 at a special 11:30 a.m. Mass. There will be no 11 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.
Mass on Nov. 5. Msgr. Andrew Taormina, dean of the East Jefferson Deanery,
will do the installation… The parish will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Divine
Providence, patroness of Puerto Rico, at the 12:30 p.m. Mass Nov. 19.
ST. JOACHIM (Marrero): Newly elected members of the Men’s Club are Joe
Guidry, president; E.J. Guidry, vice president; Leroy Courteaux, secretary;
Clarence Schultz, treasurer; and Bobby Allemore, guard.
ST. JOAN OF ARC (LaPlace): The parish is seeking a full-time, paid youth
minister to maintain and expand its high school youth ministry program. Inter-
ested persons should submit a letter of interest and resume to Father William

ST. JOHN OF THE CROSS (La-combe): The parish will begin its vigil Mass at 5
p.m. beginning Nov. 4. This will be a year-round time for the Vigil Mass. The
schedule change was endorsed by 88 percent of parishioners who returned a
survey… The Knights of Columbus will have a pancake breakfast Dec. 3 from 8
a.m. to noon. Cost is $4 for all you can eat.
ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST (Folsom): In anticipation of the family fair, Wilma
Ferran and the ladies who volunteer their time will hold a garage sale at the “Big
Barn” Nov. 17-18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers are needed to prepare for the
sale and help on the sale days. Contact Ferran at (985) 796-8681.
ST. JOSEPH (New Orleans): The public is invited to attend a bankruptcy
workshop at the church Nov. 9 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. A professional will be on
hand to answer questions and provide information... Presentation Sister Vera
Butler was recently honored at Mass for receiving Extension Magazine’s “Lumen
Christi” award.
ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER (Marrero): The recent parish family picnic was a
big success. Special thanks to Rayfield and Barbara White, the Knights of Peter
Claver, Al Gordon, Elvina Beevers, Murphy Clark, Jim Thomas, Nellie
Bartholomew, Joyce Jeffrey, Lillian Johnson, Bernice Jackson, the Knights of
Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Shandrell Briscoe, D.J. Knighten and members of
the Health Ministry and Family Life Ministry.
ST. LEO THE GREAT (New Orleans): The parish is gathering names for a meet-
ing of St. Raphael the Archangel Church to discuss the parish. Phone St. Leo
the Great rectory at 945-8750 for more information. The meeting date has not
been set.
ST. LOUIS KING OF FRANCE (Metairie): The Pastoral Council’s new members
are Louise Brunies, Bobby Guillot, Glen Hampton, Sherrill Lemoine, Mary Ann
Morriz, Jo Ann Puccia and Beverly Viloria… Sixth-graders Ashley Ory and Ashley
Rieffel have been selected as members of the Louisiana All-State elementary
Choir.
ST. LUKE THE EVANGELIST (Slidell): The time of the Saturday vigil Mass has
changed to 4 p.m.
ST. MARGARET MARY (Slidell): The Pastoral Council hosted a pot luck dinner
last week to commemorate Priesthood Sunday and to show appreciation for
Fathers Lanaux Rareshide, Luis Henao and Thomas Kilasara… “Building a
Strong Foundation” is the theme for the parish mission to be held Nov. 13-16 in
the church, starting at 7 p.m. Deacon Glenn and Linda Harmon will lead the
mission… Parish singles will host a dance Nov. 17 from 8 p.m. to midnight. The
dance is open to married couples and singles. Tickets are $10 per person… The
school will celebrate its 40th anniversary Nov. 17 with a Mass at 8:30 a.m.
ST. MARK (Ama): The parish will hold a Cajun Dance Nov. 12 from 1 to 4:30
p.m. Admission is $6. There will be food and drinks, including beer and wine and
live music… St. Mark’s will host a dinner play, “The Voices from Louisiana,” Nov.
15. The Evacuation Theatre Troupe will bring an original play that tells the story
of the history, hardships and humor of Louisiana from the Louisiana Purchase to
the present time. Phone the rectory at 450-9059 to reserve a table.
ST. MARTHA (Harvey): Martha’s Friends will sponsor a turkey bingo Nov. 18
following the 5 p.m. Mass. The bingo will take place in the Parish Hall and will
include food, beverages and door prizes… The church will host the show, “Late
Night Catechism II,” Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35, and there will be
general seating.
STS. PETER AND PAUL (Pearl River): November activities in the parish include
a Grand Adults pot luck lunch in the Parish Hall Nov. 6, and a meeting by the
Antonians (a men’s charitable group) in the Parish Hall Nov. 7 at 7 p.m…
