GENERAL GUIDE PANDUAN AM

Students can answer either in Bahasa Malaysia or English. Pelajar boleh menjawab sama ada dalam Bahasa Malaysia atau Inggeris.

Answers are to be typed on one side of answer sheets only, using Arial font size 11, and double-spaced. Setiap jawapan hendaklah ditaip di sebelah muka surat sahaja, menggunakan font Arial, bersaiz 11, dan langkau 2 baris.

References in APA style must be included and taken from reliable sources such as books or journals. ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this assignment is to assess and enhance a learners ability to:

1. understand the basic concept of strategic management; 2. analyse the case study organisation according to the principles of strategic management; 3. apply the knowledge gained from the various topics (where relevant) to the case study organisation. INSTRUCTIONS:

For this assignment learners are required to choose an organisation in which they can have access to the relevant information. The information can either be obtained from friends, colleagues, textbooks, magazines or internet sources.

Learners are to apply the knowledge learnt in this course to the organisation, specifically SWOT analysis and competitive/portfolio analysis.

Learners may use materials available in the module or tutorial notes. However, learners are strongly encouraged to supplement supporting evidence of reading and research findings from other textbooks or articles apart from the basic module to support or argue your findings.

REQUIREMENTS:

i)

Provide a brief introduction to the background of the case study organisation, i.e. the business nature of the organisation, its vision, mission and objectives, their competitors, and the industry in general. [5]

ii)

Work out a SWOT analysis and competitive/portfolio analysis for the chosen case study organisation. [15]

iii)

Based on the information obtained from your case study organisation and the findings of the SWOT and competitive/portfolio analysis above, propose and describe alternative strategies that are appropriate for the organisation. Learners should determine the strategies based on issues or problems identified from the SWOT and

competitive/portfolio analysis. The issues or problems may arise from various aspects of the organisation including management, financial, marketing, competition, etc.

Learners are also required to select the best and most effective strategy to further improve the performance of the organisation. Justify your answers. [15]

SOALAN TUGASAN

TUJUAN:

Tujuan tugasan ini adalah untuk menilai dan memperkukuhkan kemampuan pelajar untuk:

1. memahami konsep-konsep asas pengurusan strategik; 2. menganalisa kajian kes organisasi berpandukan kepada prinsip-prinsip pengurusan strategik; 3. mengaplikasikan pengetahuan yang dipelajari daripada pelbagai topik pada kajian kes organisasi berkenaan.

ARAHAN:

Bagi tugasan ini, pelajar dikehendaki memilih sebuah organisasi yang mana pelajar boleh mendapat maklumat yang berkaitan. Maklumat berkenaan boleh didapati sama ada daripada kawan, rakan sekerja, buku teks, majalah atau sumber internet.

Pelajar perlu mengaplikasikan pengetahuan yang dipelajari daripada kursus ini pada organisasi berkenaan, khususnya analisis SWOT dan persaingan/portfolio.

Pelajar boleh menggunakan bahan rujukan yang terdapat dalam modul atau nota tutorial. Walau bagaimanapun, pelajar adalah digalakkan untuk menyokong dapatan dengan rujukan sokongan daripada dapatan kajian yang boleh didapati daripada buku teks atau rencana selain modul.

KEPERLUAN:

i)

Berikan pengenalan ringkas berkenaan latar belakang organisasi kajian kes, seperti jenis perniagaan organisasi, visi, misi dan objektif, pesaing dan industri secara amnya. [5]

ii)

Sediakan analisis SWOT dan persaingan/portfolio untuk organisasi anda berdasarkan maklumat yang diperoleh daripada fakta-fakta kajian kes berkenaan. [15]

iii)

Berdasarkan maklumat daripada kajian kes dan dapatan analisis SWOT dan persaingan/portfolio di atas, cadang dan terangkan strategi-strategi alternatif yang bersesuaian dengan organisasi tersebut. Pelajar hendaklah menentukan strategistrategi berdasarkan isu-isu dan masalah-masalah yang telah dikenal pasti daripada analisis SWOT dan persaingan/portfolio. Isu-isu dan masalah-masalah tersebut mungkin timbul daripada pelbagai aspek organisasi termasuklah pengurusan, kewangan, pemasaran, persaingan dan sebagainya.

Pelajar dikehendaki memilih strategi-strategi yang terbaik dan paling berkesan untuk mempertingkatkan prestasi organisasi tersebut. Justifikasikan jawapan anda. [15]

GUIDE FOR ANSWERING ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS

Guide

Learners are advised to choose an organisation that they are familiar with, and/or from which relevant information can be gathered easily. Public listed companies are preferred or you may choose any other organisation that you have direct access to such as the organisation that you are currently working for.

Learners MUST briefly introduce the background of the case study company, i.e. the business nature of the organisation, their competitors, and the industry in general.

Every SWOT element listed and strategy suggested must be explained clearly. Learners should explain and support the proposed strategies based on relevant theories and models as discussed in Chapter 9 of the module. Learners will not get any mark for inappropriate and irrelevant strategy and explanation. ii. References
