The Iirst generators were used in industry and later on to provide
electrical power to homes. Generators are manuIactured to either be
portable or Iixed in place.
AC onJ BC qenerotors
Generators are used Ior temporary power on construction sites and
emergency power when the electrical grid Iails.AC generators must run
at a constant speed to deliver a stable AC voltage, even iI no load is
present. AC generators are sized to handle the connected load.
DC generators are Iound in mobile or oII-grid applications. DC
generators provide a seamless energy supply directly into batteries and
DC power grids without special equipment. Stored energy in batteries is
distributed to loads including loads through DC-AC generators.

These are designed to be transported whether on a cart, trailer or by hand
to provide power where there is no utility power supply, as in campsites
and construction sites. Their output is suIIicient to run appliances such
as pumps, reIrigerators, lights, radios, and televisions, and the larger
ones can be used to sound power systems, high-intensity lights and
parked aircraIt. Electrical appliances can be plugged directly into
sockets, or it can be wired into sub-panel oI a home. The smaller
generators typically uses gasoline as Iuel and larger ones are capable oI
providing up to 1000 kilowatts or more oI electricity, use either gasoline,
diesel Iuel, natural gas, or propane.
tonJby qenerotor:
It is a back up electrical system that operates automatically. Within
seconds oI a utility an automatic transIer switch senses the power loss,
generator. AIter utility power returns, the automatic transIer switch
transIers the electrical load back to utility and signals the generator to
shut oII. It then returns to standby mode where it awaits the next outage.
They can be stationed outside a home , oIIice building, warehouse,
shopping mall, and like to provide back up power incase the main
electricity switches oII.
nJ qenerotors:
With an ever increasing global move towards renewable and sustainable
energy, wind generators have become popular with both large scale and
household energy developments.
Wind energy is unstable source oI energy as wind speed and duration
will vary greatly. Wind generators are best used in coastal area or on
hilltops where there is better and more constant wind Ilow. For this
reason careIul considerations should be taken beIore implementing wind
generators at home.
The areas that receive constant wind can beneIit greatly Irom wind
generators to supplement their power supply. Wind generators consist oI
a propeller that is attached to a tall tower, as the blade turns it charges a
battery and stores the energy. The energy then has to run through a
convertor which converts it to household voltage. Wind generators come
in diIIerent sizes and can also be mounted on rooIs.

Solar generators are the most common Iorm oI home generators, and in
the right climate they can provide a constant Ilow oI electricity during
power outages.
Solar generators are a great way to cut down on your electricity costs, as
well as supplying with a backup source oI electricity. They are
inexpensive and can be attached on rooIs. It operates on same principle
as wind generators, where it stores energy that is harnessed Irom the sun
into a battery. A convertor then converts energy into household voltage.

Petrol and diesel generators use conventional Iossil Iuels as an energy
source to generate electricity. These types oI generators also come in
diIIerent sizes and shapes that are capable oI generating diIIerent power
outputs. Small petrol and diesel generators are good Ior home use and
even camping. Petrol and diesel also work good in conjunction with
solar or wind generators to supply home with constant and stable power
These type oI generators cost more to run than solar or wind generators,
because they do not use renewable energy sources, and will have to use
Iossil Iuel in order to run them. But none the less they are a cost
eIIective way to generate power and keep appliances running during
power outages.
