Need a Massage?
It is well-known that many forms of disease are stress-related. Massage is there to help us remember what it means to relax. The physical changes massage brings to your body can have a positive effect in many areas of your life. Besides increasing relaxation and decreasing anxiety, massage has been known to lower blood pressure, increase circulation, improve recovery from injury, aide sleep and increase concentration. It can even reduce fatigue and give you more energy to handle stressful situations.

Where Should Kansas Associates Go for Their Appointments? All associates and their families are encouraged to use the Associate Wellness Center in Lees Summit on the JKV Main Campus as their first choice. The Associate Wellness Center on campus is open every weekday at various hours (both early and late day appointments available) for your convenience. Most associates can schedule an appointment within 24 hours. WINS will also be offering these clinic services with a nurse practitioner at the WINS office located at 14425 College Blvd. Lenexa, KS 66215 as a convenience to those associates

who work in Kansas. Please remember that this office is not staffed at all times, so staffing must be arranged to accommodate these appointments and cannot always be done on the same day. If you live in Kansas but work in Missouri, please use the Lees Summit office whenever possible, as appointments are readily available and you will have a relationship built there with the staff. If necessary, the Kansas location may also be requested. Please check availability with your WINS Wellness Coordinator, Ashley Keighley at 913.948.6341. Special events such as health risk assessments, presentations, lifestyle coaching and flu shots will continue to be scheduled around the campus and at offsite locations (when possible) for your convenience. You can avoid gum disease. Those scary scenarios don't need to happen to you. To prevent gum disease, brush your teeth at least twice a day. Floss away the plaque. And visit your dentist for routine checkups. Take care of your mouth, save money. Let's look at a recent study.2 In it, people who had heart disease, diabetes or a stroke had regular treatments to prevent gum disease. This group ended up having lower medical costs than those who didn't get that care. When you take care of your teeth and gums, you could save, too. John Knox Village has a comprehensive and affordable dental plan. - If youre subscribed already but need a new dentist or a gum specialist (periodontist), visit the Delta Dental of Missouri website at www.deltadentalmo.com - Not subscribed to the JKV dental plan? Check out the current years plan benefits. Look on www.MyJKV.com under My Company -> Electronic Forms -> Benefits. Make a date with your dentist today. Your body will thank you - with good health.

Reporting and investigating near-misses* are both key elements to controlling risks before associates are injured. Thats why risk management is emphasizing near-miss reporting to reduce and eliminate injuries to associates. All associates are expected to report unsafe acts, conditions or situations. Some associates might be afraid to speak up about safety concerns because they think they might be criticized or ignored. However, the opposite is actually true. Risk managements safety incentive program, the Gold Program, continues to recognize associates for safety suggestions that are implemented. Its important to understand that not speaking up about a near-miss can result in serious injury or even death to an associate or others. Please review the examples of near-misses and the definition below so you will know how to identify one. Examples of Near-Misses An associate pushing/pulling two items at the same time to save time An associate using the wrong tool/equipment for the job An associate carrying hot liquid without a lid or cover An associate taking a short cut An associate not following policies/procedures/safety protocols An associate not using the proper personal protective equipment, etc. *Near-Miss Definition: A near-miss is a potential hazard or incident that has not resulted in any personal injury. Unsafe working conditions, unsafe employee work habits, improper use of equipment or use of malfunctioning equipment have the potential to cause work-related injuries. It is everyones responsibility to report and/or correct these potential accidents/incidents immediately. Village Wellness Associate Wellness Center 600 NW Murray Rd., Suite 110 - (816) 994-3333
