Outstanding results for English subjects in UPSR 2012

Upgrade students understanding of grammar by 1.1. Teaching grammar in isolation (basic grammatical items if necessary) exposing them to the different parts of speech 1.2. Stressing on grammar when writing 1.3. Identifying errors that are frequently made and as such, giving more emphasis on the area through exercises and drillings 1.4. Encouraging students to write essays in English to practice their grammar usage Familiarize themselves with the examinations formats eg the need to read and understand the questions before attempting to answer questions by 2.1.1. Identifying key-words in the questions, sentences & texts. 2.1.2. Planning, drafting and editing Read model essays to see how good writers organise and develop their ideas and details and follow this up with writing parallel essays (refer 7) Focus on paragraph development and unity in paragraphs and learn how to write topic sentences and supporting details Practise sentence writing with emphasis on using interesting expressions. Expand students vocabulary (refer 9) and general knowledge by persuading them to read more English reading materials Encouraging them to make full use of a dictionary (especially English-English dictionary) to find meanings of difficult words or a thesaurus to look for words with the same meanings; during teaching-learning

Students are required to conduct assemblies in English. 2. Encourage and invite students to participate more in speaking activities like giving presentations during weekly assemblies. 3. Converse in English whenever they meet teachers, particularly English language teachers 1. Familiarize themselves with the respective novels, short stories and poems so that they understand the plot, characters, moral values, etc. This would enable them to provide textual evidence in their answers. 2. Do activities like singing ,poetry, acting during pre-reading ,while reading and post reading to create fun as to make them understand better.
