Please bring a canned food in exchange for carnival game tickets. WANTED: Candies (no scary wrappers, please), Small Toys for prizes, snacks and beverages. Please drop them off in the church on Sunday or Monday, or in the hall on Monday after 6:00 pm. 31st SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME October 30, 2011 GOD IS IN CHARGE "Who do you think you are?!" today's readings demand. We are brought up short, put in our place, given a dose of reality. Who is God? Who is in charge? Who is the greatest? We begin with a passage from the prophet Malachi, one of the latest prophets, who wrote after the Jews returned from Babylon. Calling the people to task in God's name, he condemns the divisions and false teachings that have arisen, reminding them that all were created by the one God. Paul tells the Thessalonians the same thing, but in a positive way-praising them for remembering that it is God who is at work within them. Finally, the Gospel presents Jesus speaking out against hypocrisy and vainglory. "You have but one teacher . . . you have but one Father" (Matthew 23:8, 9). We are firmly put in our place. God is in charge. "No tienen ms Page 2
que un Maestro. .

"Master, I am ready. Use me as you will." "Bamboo," said the Master gravely, "I must cut you down." Bamboo trembled and bent his head. "Do your will and cut." "Beloved Bamboo, I must take your leaves and branches, too." "Master, spare me!" "Bamboo, I must cut you in two and take out your heart." Bamboo bowed low. "Master . . . do your will." The Master of the Garden cut and, lifting Bamboo gently, carried him to a spring among his dry fields. He carefully laid one end of Bamboo in the spring and the other into a water channel. The sparkling waters raced down Bamboo's torn body into the fields. Rice was planted, shoots grew, and harvest came. In his growth, Bamboo was life abundant, but in his brokenness, he channeled abundant life into his Master's world. serio, "tengo que cortarte". El Bamb baj su cabeza temblando. "Haz tu voluntad y corta".
Session #7
Wednesday, November 2 4:30 pm-6:00 pm (Bilingual) 7:00 pm-8:30 pm (Bilingual) Sunday, November 6 (same schedule as October 30) At this session, we will explore several meal narratives from scripture and then discuss a few changes to the Institution narrative. Because it is so important, well want to understand the text changes. Time is telescoped as we hear the words Jesus spoke over bread and wine at his last meal with his friends. Jesus participated in the Passover ritual many times, but made a significant change at the Last Supper. He gave us his Body and Blood, the ultimate sacrifice and covenant between God and humanity. Well also highlight the scriptural roots of the words of consecration. Even though the words are different, the cornerstone of our faith remains firm: bread and wine are transformed into Christs Body and Blood. Our acclamation, sung in different words, still voices our affirmation. Now is a wonderful opportunity to explore this profound mystery central to our faith. Let us take a fresh look and renew its meaning. Come and join us!

PRAYER FOR A NEW BISHOP Almighty God, send your Holy Spirit to guide those who will advise the Holy Father in the selection of the next Bishop of the Diocese of Fresno. May he have the zeal of Saint Paul, the priestly gifts of Saint John Vianney, the wisdom of a loving father and brother, and most of all, the heart of your Son, Jesus. We ask that the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for us, and Saint Therese, our patroness, join us in this prayer, which we make through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
