Why do we need to conserve the mangrove species?

Protect against strong tidal waves tsunami waves, food and etc. Different conservation methods Education - Educating the public can promote awareness of this threatened mangroves habitat in the world as well as changing their perceptions and foster support from the public to a conserve these wetlands. Education can also assist the public in understanding their unpalatable behaviors will greatly affect the mangroves sustainability, such as throwing litters into the sea and know what they could do to help conserving this threatened mangroves habitats. Mud-filled biodegradable sandbags were placed under mangrove berm first to fill up the eroded portions. Loosely-placed stones were placed in front of this berm to stabilize these mangroves berm. However, there is a need to dissipate continual waves rushing into the shores during high tide; else it will continue to erode the soil further. To unravel this situation, mangroves saplings were planted on the loosely-placed stones with mangrove species that are able to withstand high tides and strong waves in front of the other mangrove species that can reproduce at a faster rate but are not strong enough to withstand tidal waves. In this manner, the hardy mangrove can protect less-tidal wave resistant mangrove species against strong tidal waves and provide favorable environment for these species to distribute saplings and promote the growth of mangrove species. To ensure that these growing saplings are not affected by tidal waves, Bakau wood poles were placed in front of these saplings that acts as a fence to dissipate wave energy. Once these saplings were fully grown, the stilt roots developed from these mangrove species can stop further erosion and promote growth of other saplings in the area. With this effective conservation work plan, this helps to restore the biodiversity of the mangroves at Pulau Tekong once again. Limitations Topographic information is required to determine the mean level of the slope which the mangroves species are situated at changes in mangrove landward margin positions can be observed Salinity level to understand different tolerance level of salinity which relates to zonation patterns the actual measurements of topographic information and salinity level was not measure due to inadequate of specialized equipments to examine this information, but a rough estimation of topographic information was gathered through Google Earth Insufficient time cover small area, focus in only 3 species and short period of time
