SPECIFICATIONS AND ADDITIONAL

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF CONTRACT


Note:
i) In these Specifications and Additional Special Conditions of Contract,
wherever the name of N. Railways is mentioned, it should be read as N.
Railway/ IRCON or IRCON as the Context would require for the purpose
of this tender.
ii) The word 'Contractor' shall be understood to mean "the Sub Contractor" as
well & vice-versa.
1.0 CODES AND SPECIFICATION
1.1 The execution of all works under this tender shall conform to the
specifications and codes of practice mentioned below as amended from
time to time and as per the Instruction of Engineer-in-Charge.
1.1.1 N. Railway specifications for materials and work 1987.
1.1.2 Northern Railway General Conditions of Contract 1999.
1.1.3 CPWD Specification 2002 for material and works
1.1.4 Any other relevant IRS / IS / Other Code as per the instruction of
Engineer-incharge.
1.2 CODES OF PRACTICE TO BE FOLLOWED: -
The following codes of Practice as amended from time to time shall be
followed generally unless otherwise specified in the Additional Special
Conditions of Contract or Schedules.

1.3 The IRCON reserves the right to reject of alter any part of the work
executed by the Contractor which in the judgement of the IRCON does not
comply with the requirements of the above specifications. The decision of

the IRCON shall be final and conclusive for all purpose and contractor
shall have no claim on this account whatsoever.
2.0 SETTING OUT OF WORKS
2.1 The contractor is to set out the whole of the works in consultation with the
official to be deputed by the Engineer and during the progress of work to
amend on the requisition of the Engineer any errors, which may arise there
in and provide efficient and sufficient staff and labour therefore. The
contractor shall alter or amend any error in the dimensions, lines or levels
to the satisfaction of the Engineer or his authorised representative without
claiming any compensation for the same.
2.2 The contractor at his own cost shall also provide, fix and be responsible
for the maintenance of all stacks, templates, profiles, land marks points,
burjies, monuments, center line pillars, reference pillars etc. and shall take
all necessary precautions to prevent their being removed, altered or
disturbed and will be responsible for the consequences of such removal,
alterations or disturbances and for their efficient reinstatement
2.3 Before the work is started by the contractor, the ground between where
filling/excavation is to be done shall be cleared of all trees along with their
roots, shrubs, heavy grass and undergrowth of every kind. None of the
items of work mentioned in this area will entitle the contractor/s to any
extra payment. The trees which have been planted by IRCON and
removed by the contractor will be the property of the contractor/s and the
trees which have been planted by other than IRCON will be cut by the
contractor free of cost and will be lead to the store of concerned authority
as directed by the Engineer-in-charge. No extra claim will be entertained
whatsoever. No trees falls outside railway land of the trees but any delay
on this account will not basis for claim.
3.0 MATERIALS
3.1 The materials used on the works and supply by the contractor shall
conform to CPWD Specifications 2002 for material and works and
relevant IS/IRC/IRS specifications.
3.2 The samples of material, which the contractor intends to use on works,
shall be got approved in advance from the Engineer-in-charge before
commencing the use
3.3 If any material is rejected at site due to its non-conformity to
specifications, the contractor shall arrange to remove all such materials
from Railway/IRCON land at his own cost within 7 days from receipt of
notice do so. In case of default, the
removal from Railway / IRCON land to the place decided by the
Engineer-incharge shall be got done by IRCON at the risk and cost of the
contractor.

4.0 WATER
The quality of water shall be as per its relevant specifications and fit for
use indifferent cement & concrete works and curing etc.
5.0 CEMENT

5.1 Cement brought by contractor for use should be from reputed
manufacturers such as ACC, Ultra-Tech (Earlier named as L&T),
Gujarat Ambuja, Aditya Birla Group or similar brand from their
authorized dealers only. Similarly steel brought by contractor should be
from reputed manufacturers such as SAIL/TISCO/RINL.
5.2 Cement older than 3 months from the date of manufacture as marked on
the bags shall not be accepted. The cement bags in proper bag packing
should bear the
following marking:
i) Manufacturer’s name.
ii) Registered trade mark of manufacturer if any.
iii) Type of cement.
iv) Weight of each bag in kgs.
v) Date of manufacture, generally marked as week of the year.
5.3 Quality test certificate along with purchase bill in original for cement as
per IS- 4081 shall be furnished by the contractor at his own cost from the
manufacturer before use of cement.
5.4 IRCON may also take samples during the course of execution of works
and get the cement tested to ascertain the conformity to relevant IS
specifications at contractor’s cost before particular lot is put to use.
Frequency of testing shall be as prescribed by the relevant IS codes.
Following tests interalia shall be carried out:
i) Fineness
ii) Compressive strength
iii) Initial and final setting time
iv) Soundness
v) Other tests if necessitated
5.5 Cement shall be stored above ground level in perfectly dry and water tight
sheds. Stacking of cement in godown shall be done on a layer of wooden
sleepers so as to avoid contact of cement bags with the floor or alternately
scrap GI sheets may also be used in place of sleepers but those shall be
stacked at least 30cm clear of the walls to prevent deterioration. Cement
shall be stacked not more than 8 layers high to prevent bursting of bags in
the bottom layer and formation of clods Cement shall be stored in such a
manner to permit easy access for proper inspection. Stacks of cement bags
shall be covered with tarpaulin during monsoon so as to obviate the
possibility of deterioration of cement by moisture in the atmosphere.
Cement, which is partially set, is on no account to be used on works.

6.0 CONCRETE WORKS


6.1 The aggregates used shall be of approved quality, satisfying all codal
requirements.
6.2 Concrete required for all works shall be machine mixed only. Hand mixing
will be permitted only with specific approval of the Engineer and shall
generally be limited to small quantities and for use in locations where

strength is not a criterion. The concrete must also be properly vibrated
with mechanical vibrators.
6.3 The contractor shall prepare at his own cost standard cubes of concrete at
suitable intervals during concreting operations and test them under the
supervision of the Engineer or his authorized representatives and submit
the test results for approval.
6.4 While executing all concrete works below sub-soil water level, the
foundation pit must be kept free of all seepage water by bailing or
pumping or in any other manner. The rates quoted for concrete items shall
include the charges for all such works.

7.0 PROTECTION WORKS AND PITCHING WORKS


7.1 Pitching of the banks should not be commenced until the banks have been
completed to approve profiles and passed by the Engineer-in-charge.
7.2 Protection works should be done in the open during the dry season as far
as possible when the water level in the river is low. Stones will not be
permitted to be thrown or dumped under water.
7.3 All protection works including pitching will be done in accordance with
Northern Railway Standard Specifications or as directed by Engineer-in-
charge.

8.0 RANDOM RUBBLE MASONRY


It will be provided in the toe walls, bands for pitching panel in training
works and guide bunds and as may be directed by the Engineer. This
masonry will be provided as per Northern Railway standard
specifications-1987. River boulders
and large pebbles hammer dressed quarry stone will be allowed to be used
in this masonry.
9.0 PROVISION OF PITCHING
Slopes of the guide bunds and embankments, whenever required shall be
protected by providing hand packed dry boulder pitching or grouted
pitching as specified in drawings.
9.1 The dry pitching shall be required to be done either in continuous stretches
or in panels as per approved drawings/or as directed by Engineer-in-
charge. It shall be sufficiently and closely hand packed by filling voids.
9.2 The stone/boulder in the slopes of the guide bunds and in the aprons
should be carefully hand packed and also hammer dressed lightly
wherever necessary and it is only in the incidental filling of the voids and
hollows that smaller size boulders may be allowed to be used.
10.0 BRICK WORK
10.1 All brickwork shall be done in well-burnt bricks of class designation-75 as
per CPWD 2002 Specifications in cement mortar in proportions as may be
specified in the drawings or as instructed by the Engineer-in-Charge.

10.2 The contractor will get the samples of bricks, which he intends to use and
the source of supply approved from the Engineer-in-charge. However, this
will not absolve the contractor from his liability to ensure the quality of
bricks.
10.3 After bringing the bricks at site, the contractor will stack and offer to
theEngineer-in-charge for inspection. After inspecting the stacks, the
Engineer-incharge will either reject or pass the bricks in writing. The
stacks passed by the Engineer-in-charge shall be used at site and rejected
stacks shall be removed from the site within 7 days of the rejection. In
case, the rejected bricks are not removed from site, within the prescribed
period, the Engineer-in-charge may order the removal of such stacks from
the site at the cost of the contractor.
10.4 All pipes, clamps or other fittings as may be required, shall be fixed in
position as the work proceeds in the brick wall before housing the fittings.
10.5 No claim for any additional labour involved in doing masonry work
around switchboard, junction boxes etc. shall be entertained.
11.0 FORM WORK AND SHUTTERING
11.1 Shuttering shall be either of plywood of approved quality on wooden
frame or of steel plates stiffened by steel angles. During casting of
concrete, the shuttering shall be supported on wooden battens and props of
vertical ballies properly crossbraced to make the form rigid.
11.2 The formwork shall conform to the shape, lines and dimensions as shown
on the plan. It shall be sufficiently rigid and to maintain correct shape of
the members during deposit of concrete and shall be able to resist forces
caused by vibration of concrete and incidental loads associates with men
working over it. The shuttering shall have smooth and even surface and its
joints shall not permit leakage of cement slurry
11.3 If at any stage of work during or after placing concrete in the structure, the
form work bulges out beyond their required shape of the structure, the
concrete shall be removed and work done with fresh concrete inadequately
rigid form work. Details of the shuttering and centering shall be subject to
the approval of Engineer-in- Charge. The formwork shall be inspected and
approved by the Engineer-in- Charge before the reinforcement bars placed
in position.
11.4 The shuttering for beams and slabs shall have camber of 4 mm per metre
(1 in 250) or as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge so as to effect the
subsequent, deflection. For cantilevers the camber at free end shall be
1/50th of the projected length or as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge.
11.5 In the case of structures with RCC frame work, such as multi storied
structures, concrete piers and abutments of important bridges, folded
plates etc. which should have exposed surface of steel shuttering or
shuttering manufactured out of good quality water proof plywood (like
anchor ply) shall be permitted. In the case of such important concrete
structure where high quality concrete finish is a must or where controlled
concrete has been specified for use, the shuttering will be
assembled to ensure leakage proof formwork.

11.6 Provision shall be make in the shuttering for inserting fan hooks clamps,
provision for conduit etc. for concealed wiring and providing architectural
finish in grooves, if any, at the junction of slab with beams of wall
columns wherever required for architectural consideration or concealed
sanitary and water connection with the provision of various services in the
building for service or architectural reasons. It may also be necessary to
make holes in the shuttering of RCC columns for projecting bars. The
tendered rates shall include cost of providing above-mentioned services
etc. and no extra payment shall be made to
the contractor for making these provisions nor any deduction shall be on
account of any saving in the RCC work due to these.
11.7 The formwork for the RCC Chajjas will be so made that the drip coarse
and (including the putty and the drip) the cast along with the Chajjas. No
extra payment shall be made for this drip coarse.
12.0 PLAIN CONCRETE AND RCC WORKS
12.1 After completing the formwork and shuttering, the same shall be offered
for inspection to the Engineer-in-charge and only after his clearance
further work of placing the reinforcement in position and casting of
concrete shall be taken in hand. The material used in CC/RCC works shall
conform to relevant CPWD and IS specifications.
i) These specifications shall be read in conjunction with any other
specifications for concreting work given elsewhere in tender
document.
Ii) Clear cover will be provided as per drawing or as directed by
Engineer-incharge.

12.2 AGGREGATES FOR CONCRETING


12.2.1 Coarse Aggregates
Coarse aggregates shall be as per specification and shall conform to
requirements of IS 383/IS 456 & IS: 1343.
12.2.2 All coarse aggregate material shall be chemically inert, strong, hard, of
limited porosity and free from adhering coatings, clay and organic or other
impurities that may cause corrosion of the reinforcement or affect the
strength and durability of the concrete.
12.3 FINE AGGREGATE
16.3.1 Fine aggregate shall be of approved quality and grading conforming to IS:
383, IS: 456 & IS 1343 standards. It shall be free from impurities and
deleterious substances.
12.3.2 The decision of Engineer-in-charge shall be final regarding approval of the
coarse and fine aggregates for the concreting works. The contractor shall
be required to carry out washing and sieving of aggregates if directed by
Engineer-in-charge and all costs for the same shall be borne by the
contractor.
12.4 STORAGE OF AGGREGATES

Coarse aggregates shall be delivered at site and stored in separate sizes as
ordered by the Engineer-in-charge. The Engineer-in-charge shall decide
and direct the
contractor to bring, stack and store aggregates in different sizes as he
deems necessary for the proper quality control. Aggregates shall be stored
or stock piled in such a manner that segregation of fine and coarse sizes
will be avoided and also that the various sizes will not become intermixed
before proportioning. These shall be stored, stock piled and handled in
such a manner that will prevent contamination by foreign deleterious
materials. In the case of fine aggregates they shall be deposited at the
mixing site for not less than 8 hours before use and should be got tested
and approved by the Engineer.
12.5 REINFORCED CEMENT CONCRETE
12.5.1 All concrete works whether plain or RCC should conform to CPWD & IS
specification for plain / reinforced concrete, mix design (mix design to be
submitted by contractor & approved by Engineer-in-charge.
12.5.2 All concrete shall be mixed in an approved concrete mixing machine. All
such cement concrete should be vibrated by use of mechanical vibrators
and nothing extra over and above the rates for mass concrete/RCC will be
payable for these operations.

12.5.3 Welding of reinforcement will not generally be permitted except in special


circumstances under the written approval of the Engineer in accordance
with the relevant IS codes.
12.5.4 The exposed surface of mass cement concrete and RCC work shall be
rendered to leave the surface smooth and even. Nothing extra will be
payable for rendering the exposed surface, the cost of which will be
considered as having been included in the item rates quoted in the
schedule of items, quantities and rates.
12.5.5 In addition to the routine tests of materials, tests will be carried out
whenever required by the Engineer-in-Charge. The cost of the special test
will be borne by the contractor. Necessary facility in the form of moulds
cones, scales, material, labour for casting, curing specimens and such
other facility as are pre-requisite to any standard concrete test will be in
any case, afforded by the contractor free of cost.
13.0 REINFORCEMENT
13.1 The contractor is required to arrange steel at his own required for works as
per approved drawings and conforming to specifications. The Contractor
shall be required to use TMT reinforcement steel of SAIL, TISCO, RINL
as per approved drawings and nothing extra over and above the percentage
quoted by him in financial bid shall be payable. The rate shall be inclusive
of providing, cutting,
straightening, hooking, bending, binding & placing in position the
reinforcement steel.
13.2 Payment of fabricated structural steel work with steel of
SAIL/TISCO/RINL only approved shall be made based on calculated

weight of finished work as per standard weights and approved drawings.
In calculating the weight, the overall length of the members used will be
taken into account and no deduction made for rivets / bolt holes / skew
cuts, notches etc. Gussets etc.
13.3 Payment for reinforcement steel shall be made as per total weight
calculated based on total length of different dia steel bars used as per
approved drawings or as directed by Engineer-in-Charge considering
standard weights of steel bars as gives in steel tables.
13.4 Payment shall be made for actual quantity of steel used as per approved
drawings excluding all the wastages thereof.
14.0 MEASUREMENTS
All works will be paid for at the tendered rates on the basis of actual
measurement taken at site as per CPWD specifications.
15.0 RATES
15.1 The tendered rate shall include all labour and material and its placing in
position as per plan, screening and washing of the aggregate if required,
weigh batching mixing the concrete mechanically and placing the same at
different locations as per plan, provision and use of equipments, including
mechanical mixer, vibrator etc. and curing & finishing the exposed
surface. Nothing extra whatsoever shall be paid.
15.2 Controlled concrete with TMT reinforcement bars will be used wherever
so specified in the approved drawings or as instructed by the Engineer-in-
Charge.
15.2.1 The provisions specified in IS:456:2000 for preparation of proportioning
and mix design for controlled concrete will apply in general unless
otherwise modified by the Engineer-in-Charge.
15.2.2 For all concrete work the aggregate will be analysed as per standard test
to determine their property and their grading from the laboratory approved
by the Engineer-in-Charge. As far as possible the stock piling of the
aggregates shall be done in accordance with Standard practice to enable
standard analyst being made for each batch that is brought to the site. The
design of the mix will be got done along with representative samples of
the aggregate & water. The preliminary test results along with the analysis
of aggregate and mix design calculation should be submitted to the
Engineer-in-Charge for his approval and expenditure involved for mix
design will be borne by the contractor.
15.2.3 The contractor/s will modify/carrying out and submit the mix design to the
satisfaction of the Engineer-in-Charge, if so required and get his final
approval, such approval, however, does not relieve the contractor/s for
his/their responsibility and obligations regarding the minimum strength
requirement.
15.2.4 All controlled concrete shall be weigh batched. For this, it will be
preferably to have mixer with device for automatic weighing and adding
their required quantity of water. For controlled concrete work moisture
content in the aggregate shall also have to be taken into consideration.

15.2.5 All test shall be carried out in accordance with IS Codes of practice and as
decided by the Engineer-in-Charge.
15.2.6 The contractor shall establish a filed laboratory/and provided but
necessary equipments to carry our preliminary tests and working out the
grading and proportioning the aggregates assessing the moisture contents,
casting of cubes etc. to obtain and maintain uniform quality of work
conforming practices.
15.2.7 The tenderers shall formulate his rates for controlled items taking into
account the extra work involved as the above and no claim for extra
payment on this account shall be entertained.
15.2.8 In case of any dispute regarding interpretation any of the above quoted
clause, decision of GM/IRCON will be final and binding on the contractor.
15.2.9 IRCON may also take samples of aggregate use in the concrete during the
execution of work and get the material tested from the laboratory to
ascertain the conformity of material as per mix design at the contractor’s
own cost.

16.0 CURING

The CC/RCC, brick work including plastering and pointing etc. shall
becontinuously kept moist for the periods prescribed in CPWD
specification. Curing of CC/RCC surfaces shall be done by covering the
newly laid concrete with wet Hessian cloth or by filling water over the
surface. Curing with water is very important aspect for quality and
strength and is not to be ignored. Nothing extra on this account shall be
payable. If it is found, curing is not being done properly by observing
above instructions, the Engineer-in-charge may undertake curing through
alternate means without any notice, at the risk and cost of the contractor.
Intimation of employment of another agency for curing will be given to
the contractor as soon as possible. This intimation in writing to the
contractor under the signatures of Engineer-in-charge shall be conclusive
evidence of the employment of another agency.

17.0 STEEL WORK WELDED IN BUILT UP SECTIONS

17.1 The IS Code of practice for electric welding of mild steel structures shall
be followed wherever welding is required to be carried out.
17.2 As far as possible effort shall be made to limit the welding when the
structure is erected to rectify the defects only so as to avoid improper
welding and damage to structure.

18.0 WATER SUPPLY AND SANITARY INSTALLATIONS

18.1 For execution of sanitary installation and water supply work the contractor
shall arrange a licensed plumber and specifically skilled artisan shall be
employed by the contractor for sanitary installation work. The work shall
be executed as per CPWD-2002 and IS specifications.
18.2 The work of providing GI and/or SCI pipe required shall proceed along
with the construction of building to avoid demolition if breaking up of
masonry at later stage.
18.3 Size of MS clamps for fixing of pipes of different dia shall be as per size
of the pipes.
18.4 Samples of sanitary installation and fittings such as G. I. Pipes & fitting,
Stone ware Pipes, R.C.C Pipes etc. shall be submitted to the Engineer-in-
charge for approval before supplying and fixing the same and the
contractor shall ensure that all fittings provided by him are strictly
accordance with the approved samples.
18.5 Salt glazed stoneware pipes as per relevant IS specifications shall be used
for disposal of sewerage. Pipes brought shall be supported by requisite test
certificates and approved by the Engineer-in-charge before use.

19.0 WHITE WASHING, DISTEMPERING & PAINTING


Standard brand of lime, distempers, primers, cement paints and enamel
paints as per relevant IS specifications and as approved by Engineer-in-
charge shall be used for white washing, distempering and painting of
wood work, steel works and exteriors. The rates cover the cost of all
labours and materials, cleaning materials, ladders, scaffolding, tools,
plants and equipments including brushes of approved pattern at the
contractor’s cost.
20.0 In case of any disputes regarding interpretation of any of the above quoted
clauses, the decision of PD/Srinagar, will be final and binding on the
contractor/s.
21.0 GALVANISED IRON PIPES

21.1 The pipes (tubes) shall be galvanized mild steel hot finished
seamless (HFS) or welded (ERW) HRIW or HFW screwed and
socket conforming to the requirements of IS:1239 Part-I for
medium grade. They shall be of the diameter (nominal bore)
specified in the description of the item. The sockets shall be
designated by the respective nominal bores of the pipes for which
they are intended.
21.2 Galvanizing shall confirm to IS:4736. The Zinc coating shall be
uniform adherent, reasonably smooth and free from such
imperfections as flux, ash and dross inclusions, bare batches, black
spots, pimples, lumpings, runs, rust stains, bulky white deposits
and blisters. The pipes and sockets shall be cleanly finished, well
galvanized in and out and free from cracks, surface flaws

laminations and other defects. All screw threads shall be clean and
well cut. The ends shall be cut cleanly, and square with the axis of
the tube.
21.3 The dimensions and weights of pipes and sockets and tolerances
shall be as prescribed in Appendix ‘C’ page 92 of CPWD
Specifications-1996 (Vol-VI).
21.4 All screwed tubes and sockets shall have pipe threads confirming
to the requirements of IS:554. Screwed tubes shall have taper
threads while the sockets shall have parallel threads.
21.5 All tubes shall withstand a test pressure of 50 Kg./sq.cm without
showing defects of any kind.
21.6 Fitting: - The fittings shall be of mild steel tubular or wrought
steel fittings confirming to IS:1239 (Part-II) or as specified. The
fittings shall be designated by the respective nominal bores of the
pipes for which they are intended.
Note: - Storage, cutting, jointing, making of trenches, laying of pipe line
in trenches, testing of hydrostatic pressure and leakage of pipes &
back filling of trenches & measurements shall be done as per
CPWD Specifications-1996 (Vol-VI) duly updated.

22.0 BRASS/GUN METAL VALVES:


The sluice valves are used in the pipe line for controlling or stopping of
flow of water. These shall be of specified size and class and shall be of
inside non-raising screws either double flange or double socket ends and
cap or hand wheels. These shall in all respect s comply with the Indian
standard specifications IS: 780 for valves up to and including 300mm size
and IS: 2906 for valves above 300mm size. Class I sluice valves are used
for maximum working pressure of 10Kg/sqcm (100m head) and class II
sluice valves for 15 Kg/sqcm (150m head) The body domes, covers
,wedge gates & stuffing box shall be of good quality cast Iron, the spindle
of the bronze, the nuts & the valve seats of the leaded tin bronze . The
bodies , spindles & the other parts shall be truly machined with surface
smoothly finished. The area of the waterway of the fitting shall be not less
than the area equal to the nominal bore of the pipe. The valve shall be
marked with an arrow to show the direction of turn for closing of valve.
23.0 STONE WARE ,PIPE & FITTING
23.1 All pipes with spigot and socket ends and fittings shall conform to IS:
651. These shall be sound, free from visible defects such as fire
cracks or hair cracks. The glaze of the pipe shall be free from crazing.
The pipes shall give a sharp clear tone when struck with a light
hammer. There shall be no broken blisters. the thickness of pipe shall
be as given in the table below:

The length of the pipe shall be 60,75,90 cm exclusive of the internal depth of the
socket. The pipes shall be handled with sufficient care to avoid damage to them.

24.0 LAYING & JOINTING OF STONE WARE PIPES &


MEASUREMENT
Shall be constructed as per Para 21.7 of CPWD Specification 1996 (Vol-
VI) duly updated.
25.0 MAN-HOLES: - Shall be constructed as per Para 21.12 of CPWD
Specification- 1996 (Vol-VI) duly updated
26.0 SEPTIC TANKS: - Shall be constructed as per Para 21.12 of CPWD
Specification-1996 (Vol-VI) duly updated.
27.0 SOAKAGE PITS: - Shall be constructed as per Para 21.13 of CPWD
Specification-1996 (Vol-VI) duly updated
28.0 All other relevant IS codes shall be applicable for completion of work.
29.0 The Railway / IRCON reserves the right to reject of alter any part of the
work executed by the Contractor which in the judgement of the Railway /
IRCON does not comply with the requirements of the above
specifications. The decision of the Railway / IRCON shall be final and
conclusive for all purpose and contractor shall have no claim on this
account whatsoever.

30.0 GRANULAR SUB-BASE


30.1 The work shall be carried out as per clause no. 401 of MOST/MORTH-
2001 specification and as shown in the approved drawings. The work
consist of laying and compacting well graded material to the specified
thickness as per approved drawings on prepared sub grade in accordance

with the requirement specified in the specification in clause 401 of
MOST/MORTH-2001 or as directed by Engineer-in-charge.
30.2 The material to be used for the work shall be natural sand, moorum,
gravel, crushed stone etc. depending upon grading required. The grading
requirement and the physical properties of various materials to be used in
the work shall conform to the relevant specification of MOST/MORTH
-2001 under section 401.
30.3 The sub base material of approved grading shall be spread on the prepared
sub grade with the help of a motor grader of adequate capacity and shall
be compacted with smooth wheeled roller of 80 to 100 KN as per clause
401.4.2 of MOST/MORTH-2001 under section 401. The quality control
and payment shall be made as per clause no. 903.3.1 under section 900 &
clause no. 401.7 of MOST/MORTH-2001 under section 401 respectively.
No extra payment shall be made towards Laboratory Testing.
30.4 Payment for GSB shall be made as per relevant item of BOQ on volume
basis worked out as per cross-sectional area of compacted thickness as per
approved drawings.

31.0 ANCILLARY WORKS


All other ancillary works and works incidental to main works shall be
carried out as per codes of practices and manual of instructions of
Railways and as per the instructions of Engineer-in-charge.
