Blackjack Pro “Hollywood” Dave Stann

Earns His First Poker Tourney Win

The 2007 Winnin’ o’ the Green series kicked off with its first event, $300+$40 No Limit
Hold’em. A sizable field of 452 players created a prize pool of $135,600 and took almost
10 hours to reduce down to the final table. At approximately 2am, the final table was set
and Jesus Delgadillo was the chip leader by 2,000 chips over “Hollywood” Dave Stann.
Hollywood Dave had spent most of the tournament as the chip leader and dominated his
tables as he neared the final table. His domination would continue at the final table
where he personally eliminated six of his nine opponents.

The first final table bustout occurred on hand #4. Short stacked Syed Kadri raised with
his last 4,500 chips and was called by Hollywood Dave in the big blind for an additional
2,500. Syed reveals his pocket Aces while Dave showed his Qd-6s and said he had to
call with any two cards. The flop was 8s-Qs-Ts. This gave Dave some more outs with
the spade flush draw. No spades came but a Queen on the river cracked Syed’s Aces and
he was eliminated in 10th place and earned $1,695.
The next elimination came on the very next hand when George Rechnitzer, a local
businessman and frequent final table player, raised preflop to 19,000. Hollywood Dave
re-raised all-in and George made the call. George showed A-10 and Dave rolled over a
dominating A-J. The flop looked good for George as he hit his 10 (10-6-3) but after a
Queen on the turn, the river Jack gave Dave the best hand and George lands in 9th place
and received $2,035.
Hollywood Dave makes a hat trick on hand #12 when Charles Polizzi raised preflop to
12,000. Folded to Dave in the big blind, he made the call and the flop was Ac-3c-4d.
Dave checked, Charles pushed all-in for his remaining 55,000 and Dave called. Charles
showed his pocket Kings and Dave had the A-9. The board did not improve either hand
and Dave sent his third consecutive final table opponent to the rail. Charles Polizzi
finished in 8th place and earned $2,710.
Four hands later, Jonathan Cruz raised from the cutoff with pocket 10’s. The button,
Hollywood Dave re-raised 50,000 and after the blinds folded Jonathan quickly called for
the rest f his chips. Dave showed AA and the flop was Qs-7s-2s. One of Jonathan’s 10’s
was the spade and Dave was void of spades. The turn and river failed to deliver a spade
or a 10 (5-Q) and Hollywood Dave sent his 4th final table player to the rail. Jonathan’s 7th
place finish paid $3,390.
With 6 players remaining, a chip count was proposed but an agreement was not
reached. The blinds were raised to Level 15: 3,000/6,000 and 1,000 antes. On hand #18,
Luis Concha, a tournament specialist, raised preflop to 17,000 and was called by none
other than the chip leader, Hollywood Dave Stann. Luis had been playing quietly and
cautiously at the final table and decided to make a play. The flop was Q-K-T. Luis
pushed all-in with a Q-9 and Dave called with Q-J. The turn 9 gave Luis two-pair but it
also completed Dave’s straight to the King. Luis needed a Jack for a chop but it did not
happen. Hollywood Dave made it five in-a-row. Luis Concha finished in 6th place and
racked up $4,745 in prize money.
More talk of a chip count occurred as they were now 5-handed. No deal was reached
and three hands later, Roland Suen raised all-in for 38,000. Jesus Delgadillo, the chip
leader entering the final table but now 2nd in chips, called from the big blind with a Kh-
10s. Roland showed Jh-6h. The flop was 8h-7h-4. Heart draw and gutshot draw for
Roland. The turn 10 extends Jesus’s lead and an 8 on the river seals the win for Jesus and
Roland finished in 5th place for $6,100. Roland was the first player NOT eliminated by
Dave Stann. It was nice of Jesus Delgadillo to step up and keep this from being a one
man show.
The next elimination came on hand #28 when chip leader Dave raised to 22,000 from
the button. Makram Merhom, from the small blind, re-raised all-in and got insta-called
by Dave. Makram showed A-J and Dave showed the deadly AA. Makram was in bad
shape and the board did nothing to help his situation (Q-7-4-4-2). Dave took out another.
Makram Merhom finished in 4th place and earned $8,135.
Bijan Ashkan was now show stacked and the table was 3-handed. The last hand of the
event was #30. Jesus raised on the button for 30,000 with 7-7. Bijan called all-in with A-
5. The board was 10-3-2-7-9. Jesus’ set eliminated the shortstack. Bijan finished in 3rd
place for $12,205.
The 2 chip leaders entering the final table found themselves heads-up. A chip count deal
was made and accepted. Jesus Delgadillo took 2nd place and Hollywood Dave Stann was
declared champion. Collectively, both of these players eliminated the entire final table.
Dave knocked out 6 players and Jesus claimed 2.

BIOGRAPHY
“Hollywood” Dave Stann is a professional Tournament Blackjack player and actor. You
may have seen his antics on TV in numerous episodes of the Ultimate Blackjack Tour
(UBT) or The King of Las Vegas where his over-the-top personality would make Phil
Laak look catatonic. Dave is a 2-time UBT champion and a runner-up in the 2004 World
Series of Blackjack. What does all this have to do with poker? During the UBT he met
up with professional poker player Annie Duke. He approached her and offered that he
could make her a top blackjack tournament player if she would help him on his game.
They have been working together for over 6 months and he is not only preparing for the
2007 WSOP but is serious about playing in the $50K H.O.R.S.E. event. His game was
very aggressive and impressive. Dave, showing an odd sign of humility, said that
winning was more due to getting good cards, maintaining a big stack, and raising (and re-
raising). The threat of the big stack and his frequent raising kept him on the road to
championship. He had AA four times and only got cracked once. Dave will continue to
train from Annie and he predicts that Annie will become a top tournament Blackjack
player as well.
