Problem Statement:
Although high-quality early childhood education (ECE) delivers large benefits to participating children and their families, as well as to society overall, poor compensation and inadequate training for the workers who care for young children result in poor quality programs.
Conclusion
The next several years provide a unique economic and political opportunity for investing in early childhood education and compensation initiatives. At a time when the nations top two concerns are the need for good jobs and the reduction of public deficits and debt, investment in early childhood education is one of the few ideas that addresses both. These investments can upgrade job quality by increasing the salaries of low-income workers, which in turn will improve retention and increase the quality of care. Higher quality ECE, in turn, reduces future spending on remedial education and other social programs while increasing tax collections when children who enjoyed quality education enter the workforce.
