Dahod is the eastern gateway of Gujarat and was carved out of Panchmahal district in 1979

The district is spread across 7 talukas and Dahod taluka is the district headquarter

Dahod shares its border with Rajasthan state in the north and Madhya Pradesh state in the east

It is the second largest wholesale grains market in Gujarat

Dahod is predominantly an agricultural region and the prime share of revenue in the district comes from agriculture-based products Wheat and maize are the major crops of the district Agriculture has given a great impetus to home-based industries such as making jute ropes and weaving bamboo 4,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of quartz is produced in the district and supports cement, glass and ceramic industries The talukas Dahod and Devgadh Baria houses maximum number of small scale industries Gujarat Fluoro Chemicals Limited in Goghamba taluka is a public sector unit which is known for refrigerants Makharia Netting Private Limited in Dahod manufactures fishing net

Small Scale Industries (SSI)


There are 2,221 units of small scale industries in Dahod providing employment to almost 5,000 persons Major SSIs in the district are in the sectors such as rubber & plastic products, food products, engineering, readymade garments, minerals etc. Dahod and Devgarh Baria talukas have maximum industrial units in the district i.e. 875 and 541 units respectively Dahod witnessed maximum investments to the tune of INR 4,996 lakhs (USD 12.2 mn) in 2006-2007

The economy is mainly driven by agriculture and agriculture based products Water conservation measures, improved agricultural methods and community forestry programs support the agricultural practices in Dahod Being the district headquarter, Dahod taluka has the maximum industrial locations and major section of working population in Dahod are employed in small scale industries The economy of Dahod also thrives on the grain & pulse mills, food processing machinery, and cement & gypsum industries The district is well connected to other States through rail and road network The tribal culture and the fascinating tribal folklores of the district are a great attraction for the tourists

National Highway (NH) 59 passes through Dahod and connects it to Ahmedabad (196 km), Godhra (71km) and Indore (249 km) NH 8E (extension) connects Dahod, Zalod, and the Rajasthan border State highway (SH) 2 connects the district to Ahmedabad and State highway (SH) 12 connects the district to Jambuva in Madhya Pradesh

Water: N M Sadguru Water and Development Foundation (NMSWDF) has proposed to develop a community managed sustainable rural water supply model for Dahod district of Gujarat A comprehensive action plan for Integrated Water Resource Development of INR 319 crore (USD 23.8 billion) is proposed in the district

There are 11 community and 52 primary health centers present in the district. Five Trust hospitals are operational in Dahod The district has conventional ayurvedic and homeopathic health facilities Dahod has a few specialised hospitals for the treatment of physiological disorders, chronic diseases and lifestyle diseases Bankers Heart Institute in Dahod taluka provides specialised treatment to cardiac patients

Aurangzeb no Killo (Fort) It was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan as a resting place for travelers in honor of his sons birth. Today, it houses government offices and a few dargahs A Shiva Temple belonging to the 12th century is present in Dahod Chhab Talav (Lake) It is an attractive destination for the tourists with well developed surrounding area and many food joints Weekly fair takes place in Dahod every Wednesday, when people from neighbouring tribal areas visit the town to buy and sell various items such as handicrafts, plastic wares, household goods, herbs, fruits, and tribal jewellery made of silver mixed with lead Ratanmahal Sanctuary in Dahod is best known for its Sloth bear conservation and other inhabitants of sanctuary i.e. jungle cats, foxes, porcupines, birds, and reptiles
