5th Generation Networks are the next major phase of mobile telecommunications standards beyond the 4G/IMT-Advanced. The user of the 5G network will expect Highly reliable communications with full convergence of Voice, Messaging, Push-ToTalk, Video, Web Services, Location Services, Content Storage at Wire line-Like Cost and Desktop-Like User Experience. Availability of Cable Television on the hand set with 100s of HD channels. Larger and higher definition displays. Higher security. Longer battery life. The service provider, OEM community and design/ development agencies will expect 5G handhelds to be more reliable, modular and software configurable from remote location. Higher QoE with reduced end to end latency (100 Mbps), evolution of 3G air interfaces and new 4G air interfaces) and o Wireline / Fixed Access Technologies for stationary or nomadic users Moving Networks (closed group of users moving collectively with respect to a fixed network)

Support for Ad-hoc Networks Advanced Mobility Management End-to-End Quality of Service Enablers for Rapid Service Creation and Deployment Soft-switch enabled deployment flexibility Seamless Support across a variety of access networks, device types and media forms Migration from & backward compatibility with legacy systems Flexible network management (including auto-configuration) Network security Flexibility for advanced billing and charging capabilities Ubiquitous coverage and availability of service Reliability, serviceability and availability and managed IP-based architectures Personalization of the content and service, which adapts to the user needs and preferences, the device and the environment; contextual cues (location, time, proximity and presence) Person-to-person, person-to-machine and machine-to-machine communications Moving network o Composed of a Mobile Router (MR) and its attached IP-subnet(s) o Changes its topological point of attachment to the IP infrastructure via the MR Scenarios o PAN/LAN inside the vehicle IP connectivity to attached electronic gadgets via a MR in the vehicle o Vehicular network: A MR in the vehicle, providing IP connectivity to the wide area Internet and beyond Seamless Mobile Communications(Connectivity and Services at work, home, car etc) Seamless Services (Persistent personal environment hides heterogeneity and complexity) Seamless Home Networking (Device and services configuration move with user) Seamless Office Environment (Contextually aware Info. follows user). Secure Seamless Mobile Experience with handoffs between: o Hybrid access networks o Different administrative domains Auto-configuration of systems IPv6 Based unified and enhanced networking across all user networking environments From an users perspective Unified authentication / security, billing and ease of access to applications from all locations with acceptable QoS at all times

End-to-End Quality of Service (Policy signaling, Access signaling and Inter-domain Signaling; QoS Server (QS) in Network Domain; QoS Manager (QM) in Access Router and QoS Agent (QA) in Mobile Node). Provides QoS services at network edge) Middleboxarchitecture for dynamic media destination selection, routing, adaptation. A NGN user will have access to: o Multiple devices (with varying capabilities) such as mobile phones, laptops, PDAs, appliances, sensors, etc. o Multiple radio access networks (WLAN, cellular, bluetooth, wired choices) o Multiple media types (voice, data, video, text, high-fi voice and video, etc). o NGN must provide automatic and adaptive support for seamless transition from one set of choices to another with no explicit user action and no perceived disruption of service. o The NGN middleware is expected to provide the required intelligence o The needed software will lie between applications and transport protocol used by communication session and provide the necessary mechanisms for delivery of content to user in a manner consistent with the particular network and device that is the best choice in a given context. NGN Middleware Server o HTTP proxy o RTP proxy o Session Orchestrator o User Preference Manager o Device driver o Service Mgr. Seamless Services Platform Enable richer mobile services Dynamic assembly of device ensembles, can span multiple user spaces Content optimization based on user preferences Device capability Split Media streams Media streams follow user Integrated presence detection (Bluetooth) o API to Remote Transcoders High resolution, low latency video conferencing for cell phone users. Provide data broadcasting supporting 65,000 connections simultaneously. Provide carrier class gateways with unparalleled consistency. Provide real time accurate network traffic statistics.

Provide remote management to enable a user can get better and fast solution. Provide remote predictive diagnostics for core, distribution and access network equipment. Support virtual private network between handhelds. Single Sign On for all services and applications as telephony, banking, gaming, multimedia etc. Support standardized application language o Convertible widgets. o Web technologies (SAWSDL, html7). Support seamless authentication Support indoor coverage on basis of kerb-side Base Stations. Support all types of wireless sensors, devices, and systems and carry realtime update on their: o communication capabilities o power consumption and interference Data sharing in 5G network will be easy and data could be transferred if it is shared in the range of 50m. A user will be able to move everywhere in the world using same handset and SIM. All the roaming would be exempt from the tariff plans. The call charges will not be different area to area.
