INTRODUCTION

LOCATION:
Patherdih Colliery is situated in the eastern margin of Jharia coalfield. Patherdih railway station on Dhanbad Patherdih section of eastern railway is just adjacent to the colliery office. Patherdih covers an area of 244.34 hectare. It is 16 km away from Dhanbad and 275 km from Kolkata. It is situated between longitude 86 17 17 E and 86 24 54 E and latitude 23 4010 N and 23 4042 N.

BOUNDARY:
North : - Patherdih Bazar railway station South : - Sudamdih shaft and washery East :Chasnalla Colliery

West :- Chandan O/C project , Bhowrah

ACCESSIBILITY:

It is accessible by road as Dhanbad Sindri Road passes

through

very near to the office. It is also accessible by Railway through Patherdih bazaar railway station.

MANGEMENT:
The Management of this colliery is very promising and efficient . They take good care of workers and other employees. Moreover there is good relationship between them. The management runs as follows:Owner : B.C.C.L. Head office: Koyla Nagar (Dhanbad) Personal Department Mining Department Supervisory Department

Patherdih colliery was planned to produce 1.5 lakh tons of coal per annum .There are presently one working unit at Patherdih Colliery. (i) VI seam Incline Depillaring

Again it is proposed to reopen an additional 7 seam incline. As the coal produced of same grade i.e. H.H. grade, it is transported to speed functions.

POWER:

Electricity is the source of power . It is purchased from Jharkhand State Electricity Board which purchases from DVC shift hours.

SHIFT HOURS:
1st shift 2nd Shift 3rd Shift - 8 AM to 4 PM - 4 PM to 12 AM - 12 AM to 8 AM

GEOLOGY: The Jharia Coalfield is most productive and important of the Indian Coalfields . The field is roughly sickle shaped . The larger area being 38 km . NW to SE and the shorter being 19 km . EW to NS. The Patherdih Colliery lies on the dip side of the Bhulan Bararee thrust. Due to thrust the gradient of the seams are about S14W. There is no major geological distribution in any of the seam presently being worked. One dyke is in the western part of the property ranging in thickness from 30 cm to 1 m., which runs in the SW at an angle of S26W. The dyke has been crossed in all seams to continue development beyond dyke; however no inflammable gas has been detected. In Patherdih Colliery, there seams VI,VII and VIIIA seam is shale. All the seams are highly inclined.

ACCESS AND PROGRESS: As the seam is outer cropping in the southern part of the property ,it is approached by an incline. An incline is the stopping roadway driven from the surface to the seam through the alluvium and thus overlying seam. The main haulage of VI seam is driven in apparent dip having gradient 1 in 1.8. In addition to haulage roadway ,travelling roadway is also driven just by the side of old machine. This roadway is equipped with ventilating fan also.

DEPILLARING:
The method of working is Board and Pillar with Hydraulic stowing. At present the depillaring operation is carried in the Panel P2 of VI seam whereas Panel P1 has already been depillared and stowed. The mine is developed up to 21th level and proposed to be extended beyond it. Size of gallery = 4.2 m * 3m Pillar size = 27m * 18.75m But at some places it is 24m * 18.5m and 26m * 18.75m. Average depth of seam =120m

DRILLING AND BLASTING:

CONCLUSION
At last I want to conclude my training report and I thanks once again to all the officials and staffs of My College,Patherdih Colliery and B.C.C.L from depth of my heart for providing me immense support to complete my training report.I am also thankful to my friends you were always present to extend their support during the completion of my project. This training period was really a memoriable experience for me as this was my first visit to any underground mines in my life and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience as I got lots of things to learn as Mining is incomplete without practicals.
