Paterno and Graham Spanier's public comments after the revelation of Jerry Sandusky's misconduct. I was a virus removal and computer repair specialist. During the course of my short tenure there I found child pornography twice during routine virus removals. The files themselves were the embedded point of origin of the virus on both systems. The Corporate policy of Best Buy was that I was to notify the on duty manager of any discovery of child pornography and it was in turn that managers responsibility to notify the police for investigation. In both incidents I did exactly that. I advanced the information regarding the evidence of sexual misconduct involving a minor child to the person above me charged with the responsibility to report it. I never followed up. I never asked that status of either investigation. I never made independent attempts to contact the police. I never tried to identify and assist the children depicted in those images that are still burned into my memory. Does that make me a moral degenerate? I ask because that is EXACTLY how people are treating Joe Paternos conduct in doing the same thing. The only difference is that he was the recipient of a 3rd hand accusation from an eye-witness and I WAS the 1st hand witness. He advanced the allegation to those who had the responsibility to report it to the authorities, per the policy of his company. So yes, statements that Joe Paterno failed to fulfill some moral obligation are just wrong. Again I will ask any journalist with the integrity and a desire to know the truth to focus his or her light on these questions: 1. What compelled then Center County DA Ray Gricar (who went missing in 2005 and was declared dead in July of 2011) to determine no charges would be filed regarding the 1998 complaint against Sandusky made by the mother? 2. Who ordered then head of University Police Thomas Harmon to direct Ron Shreffler to cease his investigation of Sandusky in 1998 despite having Sandusky ON THE RECORD admitting he had showered naked with Victim 6 and had hugged him in the same shower stall at the Holuba Hall facility? 3. Why is Graham Spanier still employed after tonight's emergency meeting? He above all functions as the "person in charge of a school" per 23Pa.C.S. 6331 regarding the reporting of alleged sexual abuse of a child at a school. If the testimony of Curley and Shultz is not credible as evidenced by the perjury charges and the determination in the presentment, how can Spanier's reiteration of the same basic concept be considered credible? Or you can continue to pursue your witch hunt of Joe Paterno in order to sell papers.
