1.0 WHAT IS ARE YOU READY?

1.1 INTRODUCTION

Are You Ready? organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit is a main event in the university calendar which adorns the careers week of the university. This is so far our 17th Are You Ready? since its inception in 1998. In this event mainly all prospective employers are invited to perform mock or real interviews for the passing out batch of the university. This serves as a pre-qualification for a future recruitment after the undergraduates receive full qualification. This program also paves way for employer companies to meet the few excellent students of our university.

This years Are You Ready? expands to some fresh and different sessions which are added to offer exceptional knowledge on areas like career guidance and development of business trends and ultimately guide our undergraduates towards becoming effective leaders.

1.2 NECESSITY

The world today is in search of suitable employees and long-lasting employers. In the case of our undergraduates, it is the lack of awareness about the corporate world and its opportunities, which needs to be addressed.

The countrys undergraduate community, though having great potential, has demonstrated a worrying tendency towards being unaware of the professional etiquettes of the commercial world. Therefore, the highly productive skills of these youngsters never get exposed to the business arena.

From the employers perspective, since the profile and capabilities of these graduates are not highlighted in the right manner, they naturally tend to underestimate their talents and go in search of better employees. Here, the business world loses the suitable person with the correct talent. Such situations may very well lead to the unfortunate selection of less capable personnel for the demanding positions in the corporate sector.

Realizing this gap between the graduates and the corporate leaders, the Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa initiated the project, Are You Ready?, in 1998. Presently, Are You Ready? serves as a solid bridge between talented professionals and demanding businesses, while contributing a drop of water, every year, to quench the thirst of the Sri Lankan economy.
