SCREEN PRINTING
Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an inkblocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas.

LIME PUTTY
The lime making process consists of the burning of calcium and/or magnesium carbonates at and to obtain the derived oxide (CaCO3 . CaO + CO2). For some processes significantly higher burning temperatures are necessary, for example dead-burned dolomite. The calcium oxide product from the kiln is generally crushed, milled and/or screened before being conveyed to silo storage. From the silo, the burned lime is either delivered to the end user for use in the form of quicklime, or transferred to a hydrating plant where it is reacted with water to produce hydrated or slaked lime.

WHISKY (IMFL)
Gin, vodka, and related spirits like aquarit are distinguishable from whisky, rum and brandy which themselves have a number of common characteristics. The most evident difference is in colour, with gin an vodka normally being colourless white whisky, rum and brandy vary in shade from straw-coloured to the deepest brown. This immediate difference is linked with distinguishing features of composition and flavour which are reflected in the methods of production of the two troup of sprits. The aurd whisky comes from the Gaelic word wisge-beatha, as the Irish called it, incoming the water of life. The colour in whisky, rum and brandy oves it origin to the practice of ageing or maturing these spirits in wooden casks, which as containers have previously used for transporting some compatible liquid such as slerry, wine or molasses.

EGG POWDER
Egg a food item which is very much nutritious and also good for health. A food item which is to be eaten in the breakfast with the bread thus acts as a perfect healthy product which makes us to remain fit and fine. The important aspect is egg products can be alternatively turned into a powder. Two main parts of an egg the egg yolk and the egg white are pasteurized before they are sent for drying. Egg whites are very much known to carry lots of sugar which is also known as glucose with which they are fermented to remove the sugar and then the product is evaporated under high temperature using the drying chambers. The hot air thus evaporates and thus also removes the moisture by producing the egg powder which is then placed in the hot chamber for pasteurization. In this way and in this process the egg powder is procured. Thus for procuring the eggs powder a specific machine or an instrument is required through which the entire process takes place. Egg powder plant is a plant which manufactures the fine powder from the fresh eggs which can be used for various purposes. This manufacturing plant has high quality standards with which it carries the process and thus emits out the finest output.

ORANGE JUICE
Fruit Juices being rich in essential minerals, vitamins and other nutritive factor, they are quite popular. Besides, they are delicious and have universal appeal unlike other beverages. The nutritive value of real fruit beverages is far greater than of synthetic products which are at present being bottled and sold in large quantities through out the country. If real fruit juice could be substituted for these synthetic preparation, it would be a boom to the consumer as well as the fruit grower. There is, therefore, great scope in the country for the production of fruit juices and other fruit-based beverages. When the rapid progress in fruit farming that has taken place during the last two decades fresh fruit juices, like orange, pine apple, apple, etc. are being increasingly sold by vendors in some of the larger town. The demand for fresh fruit juice is on the increase but these cannot be had easily, when the fruit are out of season. Fruit juices have, therefore, to be preserved in a form in which they can be made available to the public during the off season.

POLYALUMINIUM CHLORIDE
Aluminium chloride hydroxide [1327-41-9], [10284-64-7], Alcl (OH)2 [14215-15-7], AlCl2(OH), produts, commonly known as polyaluminium chlorides (PAC), are used for a wide variety of industrial applications. Other names for PAC are basic aluminium chloride, polybasic aluminium chloride, aluminium hydroxychloride, aluminium oxychloride, and aluminium chlorohydrate. The presence of polymeric, aluminium-containing cations, the distribution of which can differ greatly, typifies PAC products. Although the formation of polynuclear aluminium species in solution has been studied for over a centary, there is still much controversy concerning aluminium polymerization reactions and the resulting product compositions. Polyaluminium chloride is a partially hydrolyzed aluminium chloride solution, which may incorporate a small amount of sulphate, has been introduced in Japan, England and Australia as an alternative to alum.

AYURVEDIC/HERBAL PHARMACY
Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Emchi (Tibetan) and Prakrtika Cikitsa (Naturopathy) are the various traditional systems of medicine still prevalent in India. The word Ayurveda is composed of two Sanskrit terms, viz., ayus meaning life and veda meaning the knowledge and taken together, it means the Science of Life. However, in a limited sense, it is always used to imply the Science of Medicine. Caraka has defined agurveda as the Science through the help of which one can obtain knowledge about the useful and harmful types of life (hita and ahita ayus), happy and miserable types of life, things which are useful and harmful for such types of life, the span of life as well as the very nature of life.

BANANA POWDER
The keeping quality of food materials is greatly improved by the reduction in their water contents. Fruits, leafy vegetables, meat, fish, and dairy products containing high percentage of water deteriorate more rapidly than root crops and cereals which are comparatively dry. Drying by exposure to the sun is the method adopted in several countries for prolonging the storage life of fruits and fish. In India, more food is preserved by sun-drying than by any other means. Vegetables like tapioca, chilies, peas, turmeric, and ginger, fruits like figs, amla, mango banana, and coconut, and fish are preserved by sun-drying. The use of machinery for drying and the development of the dehydration industry are comparatively recent and, like canning, dehydration is assuming increasing importance as a process of food preservation.

Beer is generally defined as an alcoholic beverage made by fermentation of a farinaceous extract that is obtained from a starchy raw material, like barley, in the form of malt. Although it is possible to replace some part of the barely with other starchy materials (eg. rice, wheat, oats, or potatoes) it is usually the main constituent of brewing materials. The making of alcoholic beverages is nearly as old as mankind it self. Wherever any form of culture was established, people discovered how to make some type of fermented drink, and in earlier stages always from some naturally found sugar containing materials, such as the juice of grapes, or honey from wild bees. The making of beer demanded a higher form of cultive, however, since people had to establish a form of agriculture and produce some sort of grain.

CATTLE FEED
India possesses an enormous cattle (180 million) and buffalo (61 million) population but the annual milk production has reached only about 30 million tonnes. The low milk production is primarily dur to the poor potential of the animal and the lack of adequate nutrition. For the fullest exploitation of their genetic potentialities, better feeding must go hand in hand with better breeding. The principal feed resources for animal consumption in the country are crop residues like strows of wheat, rice and other cereals and stovers which are very poor in feed value. Even these ate in short supply. These are supplemented to some extent by relatively better quality fodders like cultivated leguminous and non liguminous fodder grasses and concentrates. The latter are formulated largely from agro-industrial byproduct and forest wastes and small quantities of low-grade cereals with the present stock of feed and fodder resources available in the country, it is well impossible to meet the nutrient requirements of even the present day low-producing cattle and buffaloas such a situation is bound to aggravate difficulties in the feeding of better producing livestock such as cross bred lows in exploiting their full genetic potentiality for early growth, better reproduction and higher milk production.

COLD/SOFT DRINKS
Cold drink is a most popular product extensively used during summer. In winter and other seasons also, cold drink is liked by same people. It is also supplied normally in all types of parties. Among all the cold drinks, coca cola and Fenta were quite common and extensively used by almost all the people during the nay function but both these cold drinks have completely been stopped by govt. of India. Now Coca Cola and Fanta are not available anywhere in the market. Because of non availability of concentrate (a special type of Mixture) all the 22 bottling plants have been closed down. The Coca Cola Export Corporation is a Foreign Company on which eighty lakh rupees have been invested and it has already sent profit of six crores of rupees to foreign countries.

CORN FLAKES
Corn flakes being one of most nutritious foods and is consumed as breakfast food not only in India but-elsewhere in the world. Basically, it is prepared from maize, this is the main raw material. Flavours, like sugar or salt, are also added. Maize, the main raw material, is itself a corn grain. India is predominantly an agricultural country. Due to the progressive increase in farm produce a need has been felt to develop more agrobased food processing industries to make gainful utilisation of the raw material resources and to provide remunerative prices to the growers. Maize is one of the important commercial food-grains grown abundantly in our country. The maize is processed for the manufacture of oil, flour, starch, liquid glucose, dextrose etc. Besides pop-corn, another snack foods made from maize, maize is also used for the manufacture of corn flakes. Roasted corn flakes are generally used as breakfast good with milk. Raw corn flakes are used by the liquor manufacturing units for manufacturing of beer. Fried corn flakes are also served as snack foods.

COUNTRY LIQUOR
The history of distilling potable spirit is for shorter than that of making non-distilled alcoholic beverages. There are nevertheless several very early references which can be taken to indicate that a potable spirit (like country liquor) was known many thousands of years ago. The earliest regarding excessive consumption of potable distilled spirit, ie. country liquor and other products, appear to have come from China, some 1000 years B.C. Aristotle later mentions purifying sea water by evaporation, and alsoa wine which produces a spirit. For centuries the art of distilling remained firmly in the hands of alchemists. Herbs had long been thought to cure various maladies, agriurduly for Jaundice, fox glore, for blistersand it would seem that the alchemists argued that, if the juice of one of these herbs could be, say, quodrupled in strength, then the efficiency of cure wold be multiplied four fold. The alchemists were responsible for many improvements in the art of distilling.

DALL/PULSE MILL
The various pulses are part of the normal diet of all vegetarians and are also used frequently by non vengetarians too. They are the main sources of protein. The important dals in the country are Channa Moong, Urad, Moth, Turdal and Masoor, Matar etc. The pulses are used for preparing hot dishes, sweet dishes and other varieties. There are over 1000 units at present engaged in processing of various pulses in different parts of the country, but most o these mills are based on obsolute type technology resulting invariably in higher production losses. The pulse milling industry is predominantly a small scale industry and has been reserved for exclusive development in small scale sector. The inter-dependence of agriculture and industry is related both to the management of inputs and the processing of the produce. The highest priority therefore, must be given to industrial investment which are agro-based so that growth in both the sectors can be aculerated on a mutually supportive basis.

HERBAL EXTRACTS
Ashwagandha crop prefers well drained Sandy loam to Red soil. The crop initiates as late Kharif. The propagations is through seeds. Sowing is made with a spacing of 60 cm in 40 cm wide furrows Germination starts in a week. Alkaloid content maximized between 150 to 180 days. This is the ideal harvest time. There are several hybrid varieties such as: WS-20, WS-22, JAWAHAR ASGANDH-20, JAWAHAR ASGANDH 134, RAKSHITA etc. The JAWAHAR variety gives superior yields in less humid soils. Its roots are 10 cms long and about 2, cms thick. They are woody and bright. In six months time when the crop is ready, whole plant is uprooted and decimated from an inch above the roots. The yield of the roots average to 400 Kgs per year per Hectare. The yield of Withanoloids (at 1.5% W/W) would be about 6 Kgs per year per hectare. In India Ashwagandha is cultivated in Madhya Pradesh (about 4000 Hectares) and in other regions such as various parts of Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttaranchal.

WALNUT PROCESSING
Walnut is esteemed as dessert and dry fruit during winter, particularly in north India. The immature fruit is one of the richest sources of ascorbic acid. The maximum concentration of ascorbic acid (2-2.5% on fresh wt, 16-20% on dry wt) is reached just before the shell hardens. In Kashmir, Walnut industry is approximately 100 years old. The total production of walnuts in the valley is between 40 to 60 thousand metric tons. This industry alone earns a foreign exchange of ripreos 92 C r o r e s . Wa l n u t p r o c e s s i n g w a s introduced in the valley to export Kernels rather than walnuts (with shell). Earlier the processing was carried outside valley but at present with the effects of self employment units of government. The processing is done in the valley in order to export processed kernels in and outside India.

INSTANT NOODLES
The urgency for the development of nutritionally balanced protein foods which would be within the reach of a substantial portion of the population in a country like India can hardly be over-emphasized. The dietery deficiencies of protein, particularly among pre-school children and also during the prenatal period, can lead to both physical and mental impairment. Unless this is made up early in life there is every danger of it becoming imeparable. The government and the food scientists in India, are therefore, confronted with a challenging task of great urgency.

MALTING PLANT
Grains are malted primarily to develop or activated enzyme systems, such as amylase (diastase), which are important in subsequent commercial uses of the malt. Other desitable physical & chemical changes take place at the same time and these will be discussed later. Transformation of barely into malt shows germination after one day when it still looks very much the original barely, though somewhat swollen by water intake on steeping, and the progressive growth through nine days of germination under controlled. Temperature, humidity and agitation. After about 6 days, the malt is well developed with substitual rootlet growth and colepotile (acrospire) approaching the full length of the karnel. Progresively thereafter the coleoptic exceeds in growth the length of the kernel and the product would be considered overgroun malt and not a desirable material from the aspect of either quality or econimics.

KATHA MANUFACTURING
Katha is obtained mostly by crystallization in cold from the water extractives of the heartwood of Acacia catechu Willd., fam. Leguminosae commonly known as Khair tree, which is widely distributed in India, from the north-west plains to eastwards in Assam and throughout the country, particularly in the deciduous and drier regions. MUSTARD OIL
Mustards eaten as greens are Brassica funcea; B. Juncea Var crispifolia, and B birta. Table mustard and oil are obtained from B nigru cultural practices are similar to those used for spinach. Southern giant curled and ostrich plume are popular varieties for greens. Long days and high temperatures fevour, undesirable see starch development Harvesting is usually 1 1/2 - 2 months after planting. Important production centers for mustard greens are in the south, where the crop is popular. Montana and the West Coast States are important sources of mustard seed. Oil seeds and oil seed products have also proved to be a valuable foreign exchange earned for the country. Yet, with the envisaged expansion in the out put of oil seeds in the comping years, their importance in the Indian economy is anticipated to increase further. The draft five year plan 1978-85 has projected as increase in the production of five major oil seeds - (Ground nut, rapeseed, mustard seed, sesamum, castor seed and linseed) from 9.2 million tonnes in 1977-79 to 11.2 million tonnes in 1982-83. In fact, with efficient utilisation of the state plant outlays and favorable weather conditions, the plant expects the oil seeds production to reach a higher level of 11.0 million tonnes. They occur in specific and widely scattered locations best known of which are white sulphur springs (Virginia) Hot springs (Arkansas), saragoge springs (New York) Vichy (France Baden (Germany) and (U.S.S.R.) The therapitic value of such waters is questionable carbonate mineral waters also contain lithium salts. Natural fresh water supplies are derived indirectly from the oceans; Clouds form by solar evaporation and the winds move the moisture overland to precipitate as rain, snow or hail. The water flows back to the oceans, completing the hydrological cycle. Water supplies are classified as surface supplies and underground waters. Surfaces waters are rivers, lakes, creeks, ponds, and reservoirs, wells & springs are the sources of underground water.

POTATO STARCH
Potato is widely consumed as food all over the world. It contains the starch as a major carbohydrate. Surplus and cull potatoes are used as feed for live stock and also as raw material for the manufacture of starch, ethylalcohal and a few other industrial products like, dextrose, liquid Glucose etc. The potato contains approximately 18-21% of carbohydrates. The major carbohydrate is starch. This starch is comprising 65-80% of the dry weight of the tuber, is calorifically the most important nutritional component. In the raw tuber , it is present as microscopic granules in levcoplasts lining the interior cell walls of parenchyma tissue. The granule is ellipsoidal in shape, 100N*60N, with striations like an oyster shell. Under polarized light, the granule shows an irregular black cross. Electron micrographs reveal a surprising smooth surface structure. The ratio of amylase to amylopectine in potato starch is 24:76 and the gelatinisation temperature ranges from 56oC to 69oC with water this starch forms a translucent paste of high viscosity. Freshly harvested mature tubers contain more sugars than the large ones.

The protection of food-stuffs from spoilage by moulds and bacteria is a major concern of the food Technologist. One of the most obvious and most ancient, methods of accomplishing this is to dry the food to such an extent that mould or bacterial growth cannot occur. The accompanying reduction in weight and volume make foods preserved in this way especially attractive for millitary purpose, and much of the development of modern dehydrated foods has been a result of the stinulus provided by 2nd World War. The term dehydration is applied to artificially induced drying as distinct from drying in the sun or wind. A very wide range of food products and dehydrated to-day; among them are apricots, peaches potato, apples and other fruits, Cabbage, Carrot, beet root, parsnip and other vegetables malt, milk, eggs, meat, fish. WHISKY
The history of distilled spirits goes back into antiquity. Scientists have unearthed pottery in Mesopotamia depicitng fermentation scenes dating back to 4200 BC a small wooden model of a brewery from about 2000 BC is on display at the Metropolitan Musem of Art in New York City, and Aristotle mentions a wine which produces a spirit. The first real distiller was probably a Greek-Egyptian alchemist who in the first or second century AD, in an attempt to transmute base metal into gold, boiled some wine in a crude still. The discovery of ardent spirits which restulted from this effort was looked upon with awe. It was kept a secret for centuries. The technique of distillation probably came from the Egyptians who had been interested in alchemy since the pre-christian era. At a later time the Arabians gained this knowledge from the Egyptians. Distillation was introduced into Western Europe either through Spain about 1150 AD, or by the crusaders who learned about it from the Moslems in the 12th and 13th centuries.
