MAXIMIzE yOUR CAREER POTENTIAL

BE a TOP 20% PERFORmER
In todays tight labour market where companies are struggling to fill their job openings, employers know that the top 20% of their workforce are more vital than ever, because its these star employees who have the most impact on the growth and sustainability of an organization. The best employers ensure that the top 20% get earmarked early for advancement, that they get the highest starting salaries and pay increases, are the recipients of additional incentives such as stock options and receive the most investment in training and development. That is why to build a lucrative career and maximize your earnings potential you need to be in the top 20% employee group in whatever role, area or occupation you are in. At Design Group Staffing Inc. we spend our days identifying the top 20% of candidates that we know top employers will want to meet with. Over the course of a year we interview hundreds of potential job candidates from intermediate to executive level and there are a number of qualities the top 20% consistently demonstrate. Heres some career building advice based on the five key qualities we see in star employees. 1) Enjoy what you do. Choose roles that you are both competent at and that you enjoy. Top performers typically have excellent technical skills, but they also enjoy what they do and it shows in the level of engagement in their work and therefore in their attitude, it clearly shines through during an interview. If you dont enjoy what you do then perhaps its time to re-think your career path. Take 100% personal accountability for all opportunities and failures in your scope of work. Top performers are fixers not finger pointers and this comes through in references from their managers and in feedback from their peers. 3) Focus on outcomes, not effort. The top 20% have a reputation for getting things done and they are interested in results, not in how much time they put in or how much they are owed for their time. Listen twice as much as you speak. When interviewing candidates one of the obvious indicators that we might be talking to a top performer is the extent to which they ask questions and listen intently. Its rare to meet a star employee who does not possess great listening skills, which includes the art of asking good questions. There is an old saying: I never learned anything when I was the one doing all the talking top performers know this lesson and practice it every day. Build networks: todays business world is all about team work; no one person has all the answers. Top performers are skilled at systematically building networks of people inside and outside of their organizations who can help them solve problems or can provide insight and information. These personal networks provide hidden value to a top performers organization.

We live in fortunate times in Alberta and as such we can all enjoy the benefits a good economy brings. Being in the top 20% of sought after employees will ensure that you enjoy every opportunity the job market has to offer. Growing up in Saudi Arabia

Its a place where your kids can learn and grow ... take riding lessons, play baseball and attend some of the worlds top-rated schools. Saudi Arabia is a place where they can enjoy the countrys natural beauty and culture, and just enjoy being a kid. Their fathers and mothers, too, can enjoy a rewarding lifestyle while helping us meet global demand for energy. Were Saudi Aramco, the worlds leading oil producing and exporting company. Currently about 2,000 North Americans are working with us in Saudi Arabia. And were doing something important. 1. Saudi Aramco provides about 15 percent of U.S. oil imports and more than 10 percent of the worldwide demand for oil every day. 2. Those making the decision to live and work in Saudi Arabia say the professional challenges and rewards are hard to find elsewhere. And they have discovered a quality, family-oriented lifestyle to match. 3. The companys drive to continue serving the worlds energy needs gives us the opportunity to work with leading-edge technologies and contribute to world-class megaprojects. 4. After 75 years of growth, Saudi Aramco is still expanding. So is the number of great career opportunities we can offer. 5. Sometimes the kids let their parents take a turn in the saddle. ALBERTA STRONG AND FREE

Working in Alberta isnt just about earning a living its about living a good life. This dynamic and debt-free province in western Canada boasts a rapidly expanding and vibrant economy whose exceptionally healthy job market offers a wealth of opportunities in a wide range of sectors: health care, engineering, manufacturing, business services, education, energy, agri-food, hospitality, trades and forestry, to name but a few. Quite simply, Alberta is built for business, with excellent infrastructure, a great transportation system, legendary entrepreneurial spirit and two major urban centres, Edmonton and Calgary. The cost of doing business in Alberta is among the most competitive in North America. With just 10 per cent of Canadas population, Alberta created almost a quarter of all the new jobs in the country in 2007, and its unemployment rate last year was the lowest in Canada at 3.5 per cent. Of course, statistics only tell part of the story. Theres a lot more to Alberta beyond employment opportunities. Alberta boasts a world-class education system, excellent publicly-funded health care, no provincial sales tax, plenty of sports and recreation opportunities, and a cosmopolitan arts and culture scene. Then, of course, theres the scenery majestic mountains, pristine lakes and sweeping prairie vistas not to mention the locals famous hospitality. There are plenty of opportunities awaiting skilled newcomers to the province. If you are considering living and working permanently in Alberta, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) can help fast-track you through the Canadian immigration process. The Alberta PNP is an employer-driven immigration program, operated on behalf of the Government of Alberta by the Ministry of Employment and Immigration in conjunction with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), to expedite the processing of an application for permanent residence. The Alberta PNP is designed to meet the needs of Alberta employers who are unable to fill skilled and select semi-skilled positions with Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. Individuals nominated by the Province of Alberta, together with their spouse and dependent children, are eligible to apply for a permanent resident visa through CIC as a Provincial Nominee. CIC grants priority to processing permanent resident visa applications for Provincial Nominees. CIC makes the final decision on the permanent resident visa application. For more information on Alberta and the Provincial Nominee Program, visit www.albertacanada.com/immigration.
