The top 20% have a reputation for getting things done and they are interested in results, not in how much time they put in or how much they are owed for their time. Listen twice as much as you speak. When interviewing candidates one of the obvious indicators that we might be talking to a top performer is the extent to which they ask questions and listen intently. Its rare to meet a star employee who does not possess great listening skills, which includes the art of asking good questions. There is an old saying: I never learned anything when I was the one doing all the talking top performers know this lesson and practice it every day. Build networks: todays business world is all about team work; no one person has all the answers. Top performers are skilled at systematically building networks of people inside and outside of their organizations who can help them solve problems or can provide insight and information. These personal networks provide hidden value to a top performers organization.
