UDB100x(S) series Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) Signal Generator

User Manual
Rev2.1 2011-3-10

Introduction
The UDB100x (UDB100xS) series of signal generators use direct digital synthesis (DDS) technology and field-programmable gate array (FPGA) design, with high stability and low distortion .characteristics. . 10Vp-p signal & TTL outputs with a 60MHz frequency counter input are standard features. The output signal level may also be reduced by -32dB (about 40 times), by pressing the attenuation switch on the front panel. This enables the output signal level to be reduced to a minimum. of about 10mV. The UDB100xS series have an additional sweep function, the start and end frequency and sweep time are user settable. Its the ideal equipment for electronic engineers, scientific research, production lines, teaching and the amateur hobbyist. .Technical Data 1. Signal Output Function

5. Save/Load Function Up to 10 user configurable parameter presets (M0-M9) may be saved in memory and recalled as required. (Preset M0: is loaded by default at startup)

Operating Guide Press Red Button to start

1.) Pressing the select button toggles from frequency adjustment, to function mode selection, menus. The selected menu is highlighted with an asterisk . . 2.) To adjust the Frequency. Select Frequency menu as previously described, then press the left or right buttons () to select the decimal digit position, and the OK button to select units range (Hz - KHz and MHz) . Finally rotate theAdjust potentiometer to vary the of frequency value. Step frequencies are 0.01kHz, 100 kHz etc., depending on decimal digit selected. 3.) To adjust the Function mode, Select Function menu as previously described then press the left or right buttons () to select the mode WAVE .DUTY, COUNTER EXT.FREQ SAVE , LOAD (also TIME and SWEEP for UDB100xS) 4.) To select WAVE type, press OK button to toggle between SIN, (Main output waveform is Sine.) TRI (Main output waveform is Triangle) .and SQR.(Main output waveform is Square). Wave button performs the same function at any stage without entering function mode. . 5.) DUTY menu means duty cycle, SQR Wave can be adjusted from 1% to 99%, while TRI Wave can be selected as either 50% (standard TRI), above 50%, or below 50% (both are different sawtooth waves). SIN Wave is disabled in this mode. 6.) COUNTER is a counter function, the impulse values displayed on the screen are derived from an input signal fed to the Ext IN port. (Not from internally generated signals!) Press OK button to reset to 0 and resume counting again. 7.) EXT.FREQ is an external frequency measuring function, of an input signal fed to the Ext IN port. 8.) SAVE can save the values of the currently selected, frequency, and wave type. There are 10 storage presets from M0 to M9. Select desired parameters and return to SAVE menu. .Then press OK button, when OK appears on the screen, the current settings are stored. If the current setting is saved to M0, this setting will be the new default startup parameters the next time the signal generator is started. For the UDB100xS series, the start frequency of the sweep function is defined at M1, the end frequency is defined at M2. If the sweep function needs to be run, the start and end frequency must to be set correctly, and fM2>fM1. 9.) LOAD is the function recalling the parameters stored in the memory presets, operation is similar to SAVE. Preset M0 is loaded by default on startup. 10.) TIME is the function to set sweep time in the of 1 to 99 seconds range. (UDB100xS only) 11.) SWEEP refers to the sweep function (UDB100xS only). The default setting is stop, it can be run by pressing the OK button, the sweep time and frequency range (fM1to fM2) need to be set in advance. 12.) TTL output at the rear is a TTL compatible Square wave of the same frequency as the main OUT port 13.) The two remaining potentiometers, on the lower right of the instrument adjust output amplitude and DC offset respectively. 14.) As previously described, the output signal level is reduced by -32dB, by pressing the blue attenuation switch on the front panel.
