(2007). The Predictors of Parental Use of Corporal Punishment. In Family Relations (Vol. 56, pp. 80-91). Blackwell. Summary: The main focus of this article is to understand why parents use corporal punishment as a means to disciple their children. From past research many have tried to connect corporal punishment with social economic status. From many failed attempts to relate the two they have come to the conclusion that it has nothing to with the social economic status but their parenting style. Many parents are influenced by their environment and they use the same methods that were used when they were growing up. To this day m any researchers are still trying to figure out the reasoning of using corporal punishment. Article 4 Maguire, M., & O Cinneide, S. (n.d.). Summary: Corporal punishment has been a huge problem in Ireland. They have passed a law that corporal punishment should not be used in the school setting and parents should be advised not to continuously use it at home. Before they passed the law they used to have specific guidelines on how corporal punishment should be used. They feel that this has an effect on the children and their behavior inside of school and outside. Even though they felt as if parents should reconsider corporal punishment Ireland only banned it because of the continuous pressure after 30 years of eliminating it out of the school system. Wiley Interscience. doi:10.1002/car.1121 Summary: Corporal Punishment in Kenyan used to be acceptable in the school system until they passed the Childrens Act , which protects children from abuse and violence. Teachers were against the law being passed because they felt as if corporal punishment was acceptable in the school setting. Through research and much study groups researchers were able to see the big difference corporal punishment made in the public school system. They now are wondering if disabling corporal punishment is associated with children learning because they realized the difference when it was allowed and how the childrens behaviors changed. Through more research they are hoping to come to a conclusion weather corporal punishment should be accepted and focusing on how the children feel.
