New wiis, old wiis, virgin wiis or your favorite slutty wii. Korean wiis, Japanese wiis, even those Exotic black and red wiis
Password = NOT-A-PIRATE
Softmoding can brick your wii, this is very very unlikely. Accept this fact or stop now.
Works with 4.3u/e/j/k Compatible with hardmoded wiis and softmoded wiis. Softmoded wiis, just follow the guide, don't delete anything
Congratulations, you can follow simple instructions and may proceed with this guide
Downloading Files
You may need to disable add blocking software . You will need to download a few files to complete this guide. Be sure to download the right file, pay attention. As when downloading files, it will show you an ad. In the upper right corner, click skip this ad and you will find the needed file. If for some reason you are unable to get this file, use the -mirror link for the file.
Cios FAQ- What this mod installs
After completion of this guide, your wii will have the HomeBrew Channel, Bootmii, a Backup Disk Channel, a CFG USBloader forwarder, and a loadmii channel installed along with a cios setup very similar to that listed below. Below is a list of those cios, and an explanation to what they do for those that are interested. If you don't know, or don't care, don't worry about it as the info below may be over your head at the moment. If you don't understand it, just take assurance that this is how my wii is setup and how I think your wii should be (if you care). System Menu 4.1 v544##
!!IOS60-System-Compatibility-Test.wad -> This wad simply ensures that your wii is compatible with the system ios installed by this guide. It is the first wad installed, and is replaced by the second wad 1OS236.wad. This test ensures that Nintendo never produces a wii that is incompatible with the current setup of the guide. At this time, all wiis are compatible, but there is a very very small possibility that some newer wii will not be. This test would would halt the installed if such a wii was developed preventing any damage to it. FAQ System Menu 4.1 v544## is installed, preventing N updates, restoring region free and bannerbomb rev65281 are maxed to prevent Nintendo from stubbing them v54321 is elevated way above the current version to prevent Nintendo from stubbing them Trucha Bug- enables the ios to load fakesigned, custom data, disks, wads, etc Es-Identify- used by apps such as "any title deleter' Nand- I have no idea, but it is important Flash- only found in older ios, like ios36-v1042 or ios16v257 and many other old ios. When loaded with this ios, Any Title Deleter gives no error at startup. cios9,11,20,30,50,60,70,80,80- all have trucha, esedentify, rev13 dip, and version 54321. This prevents their removal during nintendo updates. This provides need patches to load custom data. This provides dip patches to run recovery disks without a modchip on wiis that can read burned dvds. This supports system menu 1.0-4.3+ on all wiis, even lu64+wiis. Prevents stubbed system ios bricks, and downgrade upgrade bricks, and the like of similar stupid brick types. Prevents error 003 on 4.2/4.3 and possible furture system menu version on region changed Korean wiis. Assuming the next system ios is ios90, it provides needed patches to recover softmod should you update (like a fool). cio16- is just a version patched ios16-v257. This is the ios that runs the Nintendo Backup Disk, which was stubbed on 4.x system menus. Installing this cios restores the Nintendo Backup Disk, but it only runs via modchip. The Nintendo Backup Disk can backup all of your save data. It can format your wii removing bannerbricks, mailbox corruptions and other system menu corruptions. Most importantly, it can install any savegame exploit supported by your system menu, such as Indiana PWNS or Yo Gi Vah, Twilight hack, etc. I have tried to disk swap with it, but have failed, perhaps I did not try hard enough. cios36 has trucha, es-identify, nand, r13 dip- allows for recovery via mario kart patched channel install or
Castelvenia disk swap from recovery menu. From disk channel, allows for SSBB, Castelvania disk swap without modchip to recovery softmod from SM update (assuming ios90 is not sm ios). cios200+ has most common used cios configs and can all be loaded from cfg loader, and other usbloaders. cio236- has trucha bug, es identify, nand, and version patch. - this cios is used to restore the trucha bug and is installed via cboot2 or ABHPROT. Once installed, it is used to install all other patched ios. The version patch removes the need to delete stubbed ios, which is common in many 4.2 guides but is no longer required when using current TBR methods. The System Menu 4.1 has been installed with elevated version of 544## making it completely imposible for Nintendo to update your system menu from disc or online. The 4.1 system menu is exactly the same as 4.2/4.3 but still has support for region free disc loading and function bannerbomb v1 v2 exploits. 4.1 is the recommended SM, if you do not wish to install it, delete sd:\wad\System Menu 4.1 wad This ios config has been setup to support all common recovery methods known to me, without the need of a modchip, and to preserve them during a FAIL update. It also has all required cios for game play , that I am aware of.
Update your mauifrog softmod
mauifrog, I followed your guide, last week, last month, whatever, how do I update? This only applies to members who have softmoded their wii following my guide in the past, either the Any Wii Guide or the 4.3 Guide. If you followed any other guide, other than mine, you should do Chapter 1, 2, 3, step by step. If you have softmoded your wii with my guide and wish to update the mod to this current setup,do the following. If you have HBC 1.08 running on ios58, bootmii, and a nand backup- Do Chapter 2 and Chapter 3. Once you have completed Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, you need to uninstall these mothballed channels- Neogamma r8 channel- replaced with the autobooting neogamma channel Loadmii channel- replaced with the backup HBC USB loader gx channel- replaced with CFG usbloader channel To uninstall these channels, download- mothballed channels.zip mirror Extract to sd:\ Load Multi-Mod Manager from the HBC Load the wad manager Go to folder wad\mothballed channels Uninstall - A-LoadMii.wad
Uninstall- B-USB Loader GX-Forwarder.wad Uninstall- Neogamma Channel - R8.wad These channels are no longer included in the guide. Future UpdateIn the future, you will only need to update the ciospack, which should make life simpler. Updating is never required, if your mod is working as you like updating is completely optional. Updated 2/24/2011 Hope this helps, common question. Updated 3/4/2011

Have 350 free blocks of nand space Remove all GC controllers, GC memory cards, USB devices Don't lose power Format SD-CARD
Use a standard SD-Card, 1-2g (SanDisk is good) If you have any issue, try to format with this format tool -mirror If needed, use 7-zip to extract archive files. -mirror
Below you will find many methods for loading the hackmii installer. Bannerbomb is best and is supported on 3.0-4.2 wiis. Choose the method compatible with your wii.

4.3u/e/j/k Disc Exploits
If you are unable to make a nand backup ATM, you can skip it if your wii is online. You must run XYZZY from the HBC and extract your nand keys. This does not work if the wii is not online. Backup and format the sd card Extact MMM-xyzzy_CB2.zip to sd:\ -mirror Load the HBC, press [HOME] launch bootmii MMM will load, Select wadmanager Press 1, -Press A -install all wads -1 wad will install without error -Press any key Press 2 - Load the App Manager, Launch XYZZY Let it do its magic, then save sd:\keys.txt to a very safe place Be sure to make a bootmii nand backup ASAP But having the keys is good enough in a pinch The Keys are needed for nand reprogramming of a fully bricked wii
Press Power, Power, Power, Reset, Reset (or use gc-controller) Power = Right, Eject = Left, Reset = Select Once the backup is complete, exit bootmii to HBC
If you want to load bootmii again at a later date, copy the bootmii folder back to sd:\
Backup your Bootmii files to your PC sd:\bootmii sd:\nand.bin sd:\key.bin *DO NOT LOSE THESE FILES*
Congratulations, you now have the Homebrew Channel and bootmii installed. You have made your nand backup and are ready to move on the chapter 2. If you purchased a game to run these exploits, you may now sell them if you wish.

Select "System Menu Hacks"- Press A Enable any hacks you like. I suggest"Block Disk Updates", "Block Online Updates", "Remove Diagnostic Disc Check", "Move Disc Channel" If you don't know what the hack does- you don't need it. Select Save settings -Press A Press B to go back to the main priiloader screen select "load/install file" Install USBLoaderCFG.dol Your wii should now block Disk updates and online updates, you can move the disc channel and if you like autoboot the usbloader. NEVER UPDATE YOUR WII FROM NINTENDO- read the forum and do it yourself Optional priiloader settingsYou can set you wii to boot the system menu, HomeBrew Channel, Priiloader, USBloader, and

any other app you wish. Settings are found in priiloader, settings. Set the autoboot and return to what you like best. Example: Set the autoboot and return to installed file, now your wii will autoboot to your USBloader - Excellent option for those with kids .
CFG-USBLoader has been set to use cIOS248[base-56]v21d2x3, this should load just about everything for you. But if you have games that need other cios you can use those as well. You can set cios on a per-game basis in the loader if you wish to use others. Triforce and other app compatibility has been maintained with ios249[38]-v17, cios249 only supports wbfs drives, so you probably won't use it.
Loading From DiscNew wii dvd drives will not read backup discs, no mater what. Does my wii load dvds? If it is new, probably not. Discs suck anyway, usbloading is much better. Disks must be loaded from a disk loader, like the neogamma channel installed on your wii. They will not work from the disk channel, unless you installed darkcorp. GC backups can be loaded from the disc channel without issue, if your drive reads burned dvds. Be sure to burn your dvds good and prooper. Burn them with ImgBurn, slowly 1-4x, set the "Layer Break" to 2084960 for dual layer games, on verbatim dvd -r. Other discs may work, but these are considered the best.
Loading From USBLoading from USB is the best option, compatible with all wiis. It requires a compatible usb hd.Setup you HD for usbloading: You can use FAT32, NTFS, or WBFS file systems. FAT32 is recommended, so I think you should use FAT32, but you do what you like. I suggest you get a compatible HD and format to FAT32, then use Wii Backup Manager to copy your iso from your pc to your HD as wbfs files, it can also dl cover art for you. You should also be able to use the USB loader to copy your game from the wii to the HD. 1- Get a compatible usb HD 2- Format it to FAT32 with FAT32_GUI_Formatter.zip-----mirror 3-Copy games to the HD with your wii using the USBloader, or use WiiBackupManager.zip to copy game iso from your pc to your hd. ---mirror
USB Loaders-
WBFS Managers- these copy game iso from your pc to your hd.
Keep a backup of game iso. WBFS Manager Wii Game Manager Wii Backup Manager
Warning: It is illegal to obtain/distribute backups of games you do not own. This guide, myself, and this site does not support or promote software piracy. Play fair.

Does this work On all wiis? Yes Does this work on Korean wiis? Yes Does this work on My wii? Yes, yes, yes, it works on all wiis. What is BB1 & BB2? BB1 & BB2 is Bannerbomb 1 and Bannerbomb 2. Bannerbomb 1 is compatible with SM 3.0-4.1. Bannerbomb 2 is compatible with SM 4.0-4.2. For more info, read bannerbomb What is Homebrew Channel, Bootmii, DVDx? The Homebrew channel is used to launch homebrew apps. DVDx provides dvd read support for the wii, and bootmii is required brick protection. Read wiibrew.org for more info. Why do Korean wiis have to install ios15, 34, 36, 61 prior to using your guide? Korean wiis lacks many common ios, and will get a "No Vulnerable Ios" error when installing the Homebrew Channel. Installing Ios34 allows the HBC to install. Install iso61 allows the HBC to use ios 61 and prevent inverted screen during the ios patching. Ios 15 and ios 36 are required for the traditional tbr install to work. Why did you choose to install the trucha patched ios36 into ios236? Ios 236 was used to provide an alternative to ios249. Since cIOS57 -r19 was used as our ios249, some apps will give error, such as older wadmanagers. Ios 236 can be used instead to install wads and such. Wadmanger 1.7 now supports cIOS57, and other trouble apps should follow suite when updated. (maybe) Your guide says I can region change my wii? Yes you can Even Korean wiis? Yes Why do I need to upgrade to 4.1? 4.1 is currently the sm of choice, it does everything you could want. 3.2 and 4.2 are also acceptalbe sm, which is fully supported by priiloader. Anything else is unacceptl and should not be used. So to make things simple, just upgrade to 4.1, unless you know you don't want to. Why do you use dop-mii? Why not Waninkoko's 4.1 updater? This is simple, Waninkoko's updater will easily brick a wii that does not have the proper ios installed. Dop-mii is smart and checks to ensure to the proper ios is installed prior to installing a system menu. Why do you patch ios38, 53, 55? These are very common ios to use with games. Having the ios patched allows it to read fakesigned data. Say custom game disks, and such. It also provides an extra method of brick protection by having those ios patched. Why do you install ios16, cIOS30, cIOS36, cIOS50, cIOS60, and cIOS70? This also provides extra brick protection by removing stubs and replacing with patched ios. These ios, when installed prevent commom bricks caused by ios stubs. These ios have the version # set to 54321, this prevents a Nintendo update from removing them. The cIOS are taken from cIOSCORP 3.6, and will allow a recovery disk to run without installing a modchip. Ios16 enables the Pink

Fish disk to run if needed, which can do a few useful things. cIOS30, when installed prevents lu64 wii from bricking if they install 3.2, if cIOS30 is not removed in the process. cIOS50 prevents the stupid upgrade downgrade brick, same with cIOS60. cIOS70 prevent the 003 error found on the Korean wii. Version was changed to 54321 do discurage their uninstallation. What is Indiana PWNs, and why do I need it? Indiana PWNS allows you to run an app when playing the Lego Indiana Jones Game. It is a simple savegame file, which can be useful to recover from certian bricks. You should install it, there is no reason not to. Why do I need bootmii and priiloader? Because you do, just install them. Bootmii is only good for recovery on older boot2 wiis, and it does not block updates. You need priiloader to block updates, this is very important. It also provideds very simple recovery from certian bricks. Why so much brick protection? I think it is good to have redundant options. Know one should ever need to uses any of this. We all know what not to do, but unfortunatly people do really stuppid stuff every day. So this gives you all the options. So if you do do something stupid, you should have every possible method of recovery available. If one fails, you have another.

Nice guide!
Install the Wii Backup Disk to USB or Burn it to disk good and proper
Also does this suggest you can use the wii backup disk from USB or am I reading that wrong ? How would that work? I assume you would still need an autobooting modchip when using it to recover right?

fixed the link, and yes it can be run from usb or disk using neogamma loader- from HBC.
You would need a chip or a little corp to run it from recovery menu.
