First Semester, AY 2008 2009 Soc Sci 1 PHILIPPINE HISTORY AND GOVERNMENT WITH PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION Course Credits: 3 Units Course Description: This course attempts to familiarize students with the historic events which affected and ultimately shaped the course of events in our nation then and now. It will focus on the incidents and consequences that shaped up the course of events in our nation then and now. It will emphasize on the various socio-economic, political and cultural changes that the Philippines had undergone and presents the interconnection of these changes to the present-day life. It also includes the study of the development of the Philippine Constitution. Course Objectives: The objective is three-fold; first, to provide a general survey of history of the Filipinos and the Philippines so that students may appreciate their rich cultural heritage, develop a historical consciousness and sense of nationalism among the students; second, to look upon the historical background of governmental and political institutions in our country; lastly, to assess the current issues that affect Filipinos lives in the light of historical events.
