About the SPeAkeRS

ASSOC PrOf Dr NArAyANAN SAMBu POtty Dr Narayanan Sambu Potty acquired PhD in Civil engineering from IIT madras, India in 1998 for the work titled Improving Cyclone Resistant Characteristics of Roof Cladding of Industrial Sheds. His research focuses on steel and composite structures, offshore structures and construction management. Projects he has involved in include Rehabilitation of old bridges in Kerala, Improving Cyclone Resistant Characteristics of Roof Cladding of Industrial Sheds, Semi-Precast OPC concrete slabs, etc. He worked as SeNIOR LeCTUReR in TKm College of engineering, India, Visiting Lecturer in Physical Infrastructure Centre, Queensland University of Technology, Australia, ASSOCIATe PROFeSSOR in Universiti malaysia Sabah and is currently with Universiti Teknologi Petronas, malaysia and published over 70 papers and three books titled Introduction to Civil engineering, Design of Steel Structures, and Wind Loads on Industrial Sheds. He has conducted courses on Disaster mitigation An Update for Civil engineers and Research methodology for Postgraduate students ASSOCIAtE PrOf. Ir. Dr. MOhD ShAhIr LIEw Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. mohd. Shahir Liew obtained his bSc in Civil engineering (1983) and his PhD in Civil engineering (1988) from Texas, USA. He studied wind engineering and dynamic loads under the supervision of several world renowned wind experts and have interacted with other wind experts from Canada, USA and Australia in his research works and eventually in his consultancy works as well.

Some of his works have been used by the Wind Code Council, USA. To-date, he has published technical papers in journal, conferences and proceedings, and engineering workshops. He has worked on several major projects during his consultancy years in the USA prior to returning to malaysia in 1993. Currently as an associate professor at UTP, he continues to teach and provide expert technical assistant on wind-structure interaction and dynamic loads. He has provided basic training on wind loads on structure to the engineering community in Malaysia through three basic non profit engineering bodies IEM, ACem and mSSA. He has propagated and chaired the local wind code (mS) committee during the initial development stagAe. As a regional consultant on wind-structure interaction, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. mohd. Shahir Liew is committed to create an awareness to the local engineers as malaysia commences to export professional services internationally.
