DURING the past few months we have
had a stream of anxious parents and
highly strung students demanding,
begging, cajoling and pleading with us
to allot them the Science Stream in Class
Eleven. This almost irrational craze for
the Science Stream is assuming frenzied
proportions, particularly in our Steel
City. Irrespective of their aptitude and
ability, their suitability and credentials,
all children want to opt for the Science Stream. "Arts and
Commerce are for the Weak Students, they say. There cannot
be a bigger misconception than this.
Today the choices of career before the students are wide and
almost unlimited. One can make a career out of any talent one
may have. To be successful and have an enviable career, Science
is not the one and only option. The Prime Minister of our
country is certainly not a Science Graduate, nor is Sachin
Tendulkar or for that matter Amitabh Bachchan!! Choosing the
Science stream does not ensure a successful career. Doing
something you are good at and passionate about will ensure
your success in that field.
Choosing the right career option is the most vital decision in a
students life. Don't let peer pressure and fashion or trend
influence the most important decision of your life. Before
opting blindly for a particular stream, pause to think whether
you will enjoy studying the subjects you are choosing, will you
be able to cope with the demands made by that particular
stream, would your parents be able to afford the expenses
incurred for coaching or extra tuition that you may need to
perform well in that stream and most important of all, are you
passionate about the subject? Wouldn't it be better for you to
be a great artist or singer than a substandard Mechanical
Engineer?
One of our very own students who is among the toppers in the
city in the Arts Stream has said that despite being eligible for the
Science Stream, she chose the Arts Stream so that she would
give the stream some "dignity". I wish more and more of you
would emulate these out-of-the-ordinary students.
The days when Engineering and Medicine were the only
lucrative career options are now history. Today if you pursue
your dreams with determination and fervor success is sure to
be yours.
Therefore children, be innovative, dare to go beyond the
ordinary, venture into areas hitherto unknown and
unexplored.. and you will conquer the world.
With best wishes,
Fr Victor Misquith S.J.
From the Principal's Desk..
THE first few lines of the mission of our school says that Loyola Aims at inculcating in its students, the values of - love and
concern for others, friendliness and co-operation and respect for all as children of God. In order to understand and exercise
these few teachings of our school, our class VIII 'B' took up a Moral Science
project with the aid of our class teacher. The project required us to make
quilts using old saris. We were divided into groups of three and once our
work was over, we were supposed to donate it to the needy.
There is a Chinese proverb which says: "If you want happiness for
an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go
fishing. If you want happiness for an year, inherit a fortune.
If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody."
It is indeed bona fide. When we gave those people what we
had made, they were very grateful. It was an enriching
experience and a nostalgic one too. We learnt that we can
do no great things, only small things with great love. We
do not need to make our Subject and our Verb agree to
serve; instead we just need a heart full of grace and a
soul generated by love. What this world needs is a new
kind of army - the army of the kind. Our class teacher, Tr.
Mitali Das, had a great contribution in preparing this 'Army of
the Kind'.

IS THIS THE END WE CELEBRATE?
AS I write this article, I don't feel thrilled about the
death of Osama Bin Laden. It has been quite some
time now but the celebrations post his death
aren't over yet. Like most, even I look for
quips and quotes to supplement an article. I
saw one on my Facebook page and it just
seemed very apropos: - I will mourn the
loss of thousands of innocent lives but I will
not rejoice the death of one, not even that
of an enemy. Martin Luther King Jr. In all
this rejoicing and celebrations, we seem to have forgotten a very
important detail. Abottabad is just 120 kilometres away from the
Pakistani capital. If the face of terrorism can blend in and stay off the grid
for so long (seven and a half years almost), it should make us worry if not
fear. However, I don't mean to play the party pooper.
I do not want the celebrations to die down. Thousands of families have lost so
much at the hands of Laden. All I ask for is a little dignity. Don't let yourself
forget the truth that looms over the world after a few months of celebration
because the terrorists won't let themselves forget either.

THE ARMY OF THE KIND
CONGRATULATIONS
CONTRARY to what many believe, Loyoleans are not just
dominant in co-curricular activities. We also rule the roost
when it comes to academics. The performance of our students in
various competitive examinations is all that we need to assert this.
Eleven students from the Pure Science section (XII D) have cracked
the IIT entrance this year. This constitutes for over 20% of the class.
It makes me proud to tell you that ours is the highest success ratio
than any other city school.
The students are :- Abhimanyu Dubey, Ravish Ratnam, Amrit
Anand Amresh, Vineet Kumar, Saransh Solanki, Tanuj Sen, medha
Pandey, Varun Tripathy, Sudhanshu Shekhar, Prakash Deep Singh

They are:

?Hursh Sharma- AIR 5 at Kasturba Medical College,

?Mukul Dudani- AIR 10 at Kasturba Medical College,

Results of JIPMER, Pondicherry are awaited. And I am
very confident about our students succeeding in these
entrances too.
I also feel glad to mention that like previous years, this year too,
a brilliant Loyolean, Soham Acharjee, has confirmed his entry
into the prestigious NTU (Nanyang Technological University),
Singapore, for higher studies. Last year, our student Swarnali
Mitra too had qualified and joined NTU, Singapore.
I wish all our students the best of luck for all their future
endeavors. Also, their feat makes me believe that in the future
too, our students will repeat this performance and in all
probabilities, better it.

WE must pity those who have a voice and yet
cannot speak. Ours is a strange country. We
are so weighed down by tradition that even
the slightest deviation from the treaded
path will invite a lot of flak. There are many
schools that don't enjoy the privilege of a
school magazine. Sometimes it is because
they can't afford it, and mostly because they
question the very need of having one.
We don't need a school magazine to keep
the parents updated about how the school is
spending their child's fee, or to encourage
others to have a quick look at a brochure
and decide that it is time their ward
switched schools! In all these years of
the LPC's existence, our creations
were never a trumpet for the
administration. And we are proud
of that.
A magazine is the ultimate proof of
liberty that a school has to offer. Don't
you agree? Wouldn't you say the
same of any creation that is free of prejudices and
restrictions?
The Loyolean's look has changed a lot over the years. The
spirit remains the same. As has been rightly stated by our
former moderator, a hand must be kept on the pulse of the
school. We intend to do just that.
This year, the school and the LPC has
initiated an effort that holds the potential
of creating history. Cartoon characters(a
few are shown in this space) have been
created with the sole purpose of giving
artistic life to the perspective that students
have of school. No school has ever tried it, nor
are they likely to without an example.
A magazine can never be successful sans
active contribution from its readers and
patrons. Every student of Loyola is a patron of the
magazine. The response towards The Loyolean has always
been tremendous. We hope it continues. 'The Loyolean' is a
way of celebrating freedom. The kind that Loyola has
always stood for.

DON'T get me wrong; I love cricket. Maybe not as much as the guys who know
every score of Dhoni, in both ascending and descending order. But I love cricket
for what it does to my sense of patriotism; and the overall thrill and excitement
of it is a high in itself.
After the recently concluded World Cup, where after nearly 28 years, our
cricket team won the prized Cup, it is obvious that I too was delirious
with joy. I celebrated the way my father does by driving around town
and high-fiving and shaking hands. Thinking about it now, I disturbed my
neighbors' by bursting many crackers too.
But not a week had passed since I began to digest the 'huge-ness' of it all (the victory was
real special for me), that I was bombarded with yet another cricket fiesta, the IPL.
In the last few years, IPL was much more fun. But this year, I have to admit, I am not able
to enjoy it as much. It's is all because I am suffering from 'Cricket Fatigue'. Maybe it is
because I screamed my lungs out when our men in blue lifted the coveted Cup.
What about you? Are you tired of cricket? Or was the IPL another excuse for some more
'Cricketainment'?

THIS World Cup was the best chance for India to win the prized trophy. Not just because the tournament was played in the
subcontinent, but also because our players were in their top forms (Did someone just say Sreesanth?). I think the grounds in
India are smaller than the grounds elsewhere. This explains the higher scores in the matches. Of all the matches, I think the
India-Pakistan match was most interesting. It also had the maximum viewers.
Also, I was pretty much dismayed by the fact that South Africa lost to New
Zealand. The latter was not a very strong contender. The World Cup unified
the citizens of our country. We put all our might behind those 11 men who
Bled Blue. The best part of the final match was the blistering four by Sehwag
in the first ball of the match and the winning boundary by captain M.S Dhoni
in the last ball of the match.
The next edition of the World Cup will be hosted by Australia and New
Zealand. Only 10 teams are going to participate. God knows why the ICC took
such a step. We should promote cricket, so that weaker teams get a platform
for presenting and learning.
Every World Cup match is made special not only by the contribution of the
players but also by the spectators. One of the posters held up during the
matches read, " I was small when Sri Lanka won the World Cup. I want a
repeat telecast." Even though the man's sentiments remained unheard, I can
proudly say, "I WAS THERE WHEN INDIA WON THE WORLD CUP."

STILL BLEEDING
A massive hit over the leg side boundary and the ball went straight through
the window pane of Col. Duggal's house. No one dared fetch the ball from
the ex-military officer's house. All we could do was make a fast escape with
our belongings. Our cricketing spirit had to disappear for a couple of days.
The third day we could take no more. Once again, we placed our stumps at
the same position. This is how the Cricket World Cup fever had affected the
kids of my locality and now the same spirit was blazing the country. During
the World Cup, the craze for the game was evident in all. People who never
knew a thing about cricket could be found analyzing with gusto.
The 'Men in Blue' gave us the opportunity to celebrate the festival of Diwali
thrice within a short period of time. The matches with Australia, Pakistan and
Sri Lanka were as grand as the festival itself.
Girls of our class who had never watched a cricket match properly and were neither interested in the game were seen
decorating the blackboard with enthusiastic quotes. Every action and deed of ours seemed worthwhile after the victory.
Some very interesting matches were played between the fourteen nations. Even the fairly inexperienced teams put up a
strong show. Even though its been a long time since the World Cup ended. We are still 'Bleeding Blue'.

THE scorching summer sun has been irritating us for a
month now. We are basking in the sun's rays, sipping colas
and forcing ourselves to withstand the pressures of heat and
humidity. Summer is not just for lazy lounging but also for
stepping out in the scorching sun, still looking cool! So it's
time to be radiant and glamorous with an opportunity to get
noticed with this year's summer styles.
Cut, color and design are the basics of fashion. Summer
fashion is cool, trendy and vibrant with a mlange of colors,
prints and Bohemian styles. As always, it is all about
simplicity, being colorful, looking relaxed and stepping out
with lan. The weather demands a more relaxed attitude
that translates into flexible dress
codes which lean towards comfort.
Casual dressing is a genuine
requirement, especially in
summers where one usually

sunglasses and may be

ideas. Sheer fabrics, vibrant prints
and accessories are the leaders in
summer fashion trends. While
wrapping up this summer season,
indulge in some simple yet
incredibly stylish clothes. Go for
that cut that suits you.
For those who love wearing
trousers, the trend towards
ecl ecti ci sm i s perhaps best
expressed by one of the season's
must-haves - the cargo and the
capri. Shorts, both for boys and girls,
in a variety of fabrics are another
trend which gives the much
required comfort and flexibility.
Tops come in various hues, fabric and
styles. In the Indian fashion world, kurtas
are the thing to go for this summer. Cotton tops are also the
best bet, looking chic yet comfortable.
For girls, skirts come in different styles, prints and fabrics.
Short skirts and wrap-arounds as well as long flowing ones
with floral prints are trendy and in-vogue.
Summer's color palette includes bright pastels and most
importantly the serene whites. Gone are the winter blacks and
grey and coming in re the reds, purples, blues, yellows, oranges,
pinks, gold and ore; all of which actually, can be worn together!
Citrus shades dominate the summers, especially oranges and
pinks, and by teaming them with green and purple, the look is
bright and fun; perfect for the summer nights. White is by far
the most versatile color, as it goes with neutrals as well as the
bright, clear pastels.
Look for polka dots, stripes and floral. Vibrant prints, especially
those abstract ones are intensely popular. Color trends for the
prints range from bold and bright to soft and subtle. Celebrate
the summers by wearing fun prints; it doesn't matter as long as
there are some fabulous prints in gorgeous
colors.
Choice of fabrics is the key to ensuring
that one's summers are spent with
ease. Replace the velvets, satin and
si l ks wi th cri sp cotton, l i nen,
translucent chiffons and organza -
outside with the thick and heavy, and
inside with fabrics that breathe.
Accessories add a lot of effects to
your looks. These add a splash of
color. Handbags are witty. Sandals
are strappy. Jewelry is coral and sun
glasses have a tint of shine. All
these add up to a pretty season-
end and a great way to express
your individuality. There is no
single style to follow; rather
there are so many trends that
you should be sure that your
personal taste is catered for.
It is not necessary that in order
to be trendy one's attire must
be expensive. Casual belts look
great when paired with sandals
or fun sneakers. A pair of flip-
flops can work like magic.
They look great with your
favorite pair of jeans and can
be worn in those warm summer nights. They just look cool and
summery too.
Of course no summer outfit would be complete without a pair
of awesome sunglasses. This is a must have fashion accessory.
The right pair of sunglasses can make anyone look like a celeb.

ASTRONOMY CLUB (DINOSAUR)
It seems that no one is particularly interested in cocking an eye behind a telescope to stare at the
universe. Its future is as dark as space.
Our advice: Show some energy. We too are interested in what's up there in the sky.

ROOSTER : NOTICED OCCASIONALLY
LOCH NESS : EXISTS ONLY IN MYTHS
BEEHIVE : BUZZING 24/7
DRAMATICS CLUB (LOCH NESS)
The big fat movie has received a lot of hype just like the Loch Ness monster. However, we
don't know if this monster/club is ever going to resurface.
Our advice: We request the board to NOT pull off a Loch Ness and portray themselves more
publicly.
DEBATING CLUB (GIANT SLOTH)
Last year saw the inception of its flagship even, "CONQUISTA". A relatively new club, it has still to
show the energy projected by its skilled speakers. However, its members do bring home a lot of
the non-sports awards of the school.
Our advice: Given the large majority of celebrated debaters among your midst, try not to argue
your heads off while organizing your event.
BIOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB (TIGER)
The 'symbiosis' between the two clubs has worked limited benefits for both. However, we
fail to grasp the logic behind switching between intra and inter school events every year.
Our advice: Given the low energy level of the club during the rest of the year, we hope you
know the definition of 'endangered'.
JYOTI (ROOSTER)
The JYOTI unit of Loyola is admittedly one of the more active clubs of the school. From stationery
drives to basketball tourneys to the flagship event "RHAPSODY', the club manages to stay afloat.
Our advice: The board needs to be temperamental and a little more professional in its approach to
organizing.
PHILATELY AND NUMISMATIC CLUBS (DINOSAUR)
The occasional Coin Club visit or exhibition is all the activity this club shows. Considering the
fact that collecting coins/stamps is such a clichd hobby, we expect the club to stand up for
what its worth.
Our advice: Expand your members list, organize more events. We're all waiting.
G.K. CLUB (HIBERNATING BEAR)
What used to be one of the most active clubs of Loyola Club has sadly fallen into a slumber.
The Battle of Minds that used to take place so frequently during the year has become a rarity
now.
Our advice: We expect more than quiz rounds and the occasional certificates and trophies
brought home.
ENTERTAINMENT CLUB (ROOSTER)
This is a big club that strangely asserts its existence during the latter part of the year. It is
sad to see that aside the moderator and the occasional board member, the rest of the
members are caught napping during the rest of the year.
Our advice: We really do hope that you do not have to rename TAMANNA to Titanic this
year. If you do continue it, that is.
COMPUTER CLUB (HIBERNATING BEAR)
Here is another club that resurfaces when its time for ETRIX, its flagship event. The "Road to
ETRIX" is certainly an exciting one but the club needs to space its events evenly through out
the year. We must add that teaching sessions have recently gained momentum.
Our advice: The teaching sessions and quiz rounds are exciting but considering the scope of
the subject, one more mega event won't hurt, don't you think?
PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY CLUB (TIGER)
This is a club that really needs to bring its A-game to the club scene at Loyola. Its level of activity
during the past year has been mildly disappointing. Life doesn't start and end at TPSQ, does it
now?
Our advice: If not more events, at least more teaching sessions will certainly help you step up your
game.
INTERACT CLUB (BEEHIVE)
The Interact Club is by far among the most active clubs at Loyola. Interact takes an active part in
the energizing the club scene with its paper drives, old clothes collection drives, Cheshire Home
visits, taking LPS students on zoo trips and of course, the two mega events- LEMOD and
Interactions. Interact certainly sets an example to the other clubs of Loyola.

THERE are a healthy percentage of people who come
close to being fishes. Maybe not physiologically, but
they come close enough. With the 'Adrenaline Rush'
section being introduced, we thought it apt to begin
with an activity which is simple yet satisfies the needs
of a junkie. Who knows? This article might just inspire
you to sign up for swimming lessons!
Primarily, you must remember to take a bath before
entering any professionally monitored swimming
pool. Reason? It's hygienic that way. Bet you didn't
know that.
Once inside the pool, your attention should be
completely on the strokes that you are about to
perform. To begin
with, there are a

strokes:-
1. The Front Crawl: -
It involves the

has to perform

cupped palms and
closed fingers.
2. The Breast Stroke:
- This one is performed facedown in water, without
rotating one's torso. The arms remain in water and
move in sync while the legs perform the Frog Kick. It
also involves the co-ordination of head elevation
along with the strokes.
3. The Back Stroke: - This is the performing of any of the
previously mentioned strokes with one's head facing
the sky and on one's back.
4. The Butterfly Stroke: - The Butterfly Stroke is
performed face down in the water while executing the
Dolphin Kick and simultaneously, moving one's arms
in a forward circle.
5. The Dog Paddle: - This is the most basic form of
swimming and also the easiest. It involves the forward
motion of the body, keeping the head above the wa
ter surface and the
movement of the arms
and legs underwater.
Any extreme sport or
activity must be coupled with proper gear(for use or
safety). So if you are a newbie to the sport, there are a few
things you ought to have.
lBuy yourself a pair of puffs (the bright, colored inflatable
tubes that toddlers wear around their arms). DO NOT be
embarrassed to use them if you are learning to swim late
in life.
lIf you are scared of
pulling in water
through the nose
(you are bound to
do it the first time
anyway), get a
nose clip. It helps.
lSwimming Goggles
are also necessary
in case you are

This one you can
pass over if you
want. Just let us
know when you do that!
A little bit of sincerity shown in the sport will get you
a trimmed and toned frame. Besides, it is always an
advantage to know swimming.
Tips (I hate to do this for free):
lOnce you have gained some experience with the strokes,
start pushing yourself to exhaustion. This helps build your
stamina. Also, after every swim, dip you head underwater
and breathe your lungs out, completely. Repeat ten times.
This is another great help in stamina building.
lDo not venture into the deep end of the pool without the
instructor's permission.
lGet yourself insured!

A TRADITION UNDERGOES RECONSTRUCTION
?The Red Badge. Did you always want
it?
To tell you the truth I didn't. Actually
I never considered myself to be
truly deserving of this great post
and so I did not put much thought
into it. Things changed when on the
day just before our class elections
my friends told me that they wanted
me to stand in the elections as they had
total trust in my capabilities. Since then my passion for
the achievement of this beautiful red badge has
increased manifolds. And now that I have been blessed
with this badge, I am extremely passionate about
upholding its prestige and serving the greatness, that is
and will always be Loyola.
?What does election day feel like?
The Election Day was an experience of a lifetime. I could
feel the heat of the elections and tension remained at
screaming point throughout. But as soon as the results
were declared and more than a hundred students came
running towards me and jumped onto me, lifted me on
their shoulders and flung me around displaying their
hearts elation, all the tension vanished and there was
nothing inside me but joy, happiness and pride.
?What kind of President will you strive to be?
With the red badge attached to my uniform just above
my pocket, it will be my first priority to respect it and
uphold its value by performing my duties diligently. I will
strive to be that president who will voice the aspirations,
dreams, opinions and fears of each and every Loyolean. I, as
the president will strive to be the strongest link between
the students and teachers. And most importantly I will
strive to be that president which the school and its
members will be proud of.
?What should the students be expecting of the Council?
I can confidently say that the students must expect an
honest and effective council which will always be there
to hear them out. They should expect a council which
will always be there to encourage you, guide you and
support you. Finally I would like to use this interview as a
platform to inform all the Loyoleans that you must
never hesitate to seek help and support from your class
councillors or even Lakshya, Tanvi or me.
?Some remember this post as one that is best forgotten.
Your reactions?
Its all about how you perceive it. Probably it won't
matter in a job, but in real life it helps a lot. It helps you
grow as a person and builds up your confidence. It helps
in enhancing your leadership skills and makes you a
team player.
?First off, what were your first thoughts
about the position of a head girl? It is a
very prestigious post because for the
first time Loyola would be having a
girl president. It is a landmark
moment and something that will go
down in the history of the school.
?Were you confident of your victory?
At first I was a little shaky about the whole
thing as I had never gone up for something like this in my
life but slowly I realised about what it is and the prestige
of holding such a post. Then gradually thinking about the
post the position and the value it holds I started gaining
confidence bit by bit and at the end I had great
confidence in myself that I could do it well and come out
with flying colours.
?How important will this post prove to be for the school?
This post will be very important for the school because
never ever has a girl represented the whole student
body of Loyola School. It would be a very different
experience for a Loyola faculty. They have made a very
good decision in proposing the post of a head girl to be
instituted in Loyola and I'm sure they won't regret it.
?Could it be any different had the post not been there?
We have been the first co-ed batch of Loyola school. It
was with the coming of our batch that for the first time
girls were in introduced to the junior school. Ever since
th
we'd come to the 9 we'd all been thinking about the
th
girls post which would be instituted in the 10 for the
girl's president and if Loyola School hadn't introduced
the post of the head girl it would make a difference to the
first co-ed batch of Loyola school. An absence of such a
post would lead to discrimination between boys and
girls. We girls need to be given an equal opportunity to
represent the school.
?How does it feel to go down in history as the
institution's first head girl?
In one word, amazing. It is a matter of great pride and
honour for me to go down in the history of the school as
its first girl president. It's a feeling which cannot be
expressed. The feeling of wearing the badge and walking
down the corridors and people and children whispering
to each other Look, there goes the first girl president
cannot be put down in words. It's just wonderful.

THE EASIEST ROUTE TO DEMENTIA
IF I had to represent the mass of the Indian media in one word no, in one image, it'd be this.
Shrivardhan Trivedi, host of the Sansani shows on Star News. Sansani translated into English literally
means sensational and there lies my problem with (the majority of) the Indian media.
News should be objective, pragmatic and informative. Instead, if you were to tune into Star News,
naturally, looking for news you'd find the equivalent of a soap opera.
This man, appears on Star News everyday, and with his booming, sansational voice, torments you for
an hour with news, about rape, tapes and fareb. I'm not being flippant about these topics
certainly, it's the media's duty to report on such issues and to keep people informed. Do you get
accurate reports on incidents, then? No, all you get is a bunch of third class actors enacting said
incident. News? No. Sansani? Yes. And he helpfully concludes the show with chain se sona hai
to jaag jaiye wake up if you want to sleep peacefully.
Then again, I'm not one to attack a defenseless person (or in this case, show). Of course, I must
congratulate the Sansani team their news program is more entertaining than the host of Indian
soap operas with all their ghar-ghar ki kahani and spiciness. According to Ekta Kapoor et al, the
Ideal Indian Woman is one who:
?is a fervent devotee of Krishna, Rama, and all theother gods and goddesses youcan throw in,
just for fun
?is a housewife (working is considered evil)
I think-vomit when I watch one of these serials with its stereotypical portrayal of the said
'Ideal Indian Woman' and vamp. But enough about that I could write a billion articles but it
wouldn't sufficiently cover the muddle-ups of Indian soap operas.

WHO MADE HISTORY INTERESTING?
ALL thosewhoremember beingtaught byTeacher Shalini Sharmafor thefirst time, alsoremember thesurpriseelement
that her classes carry. Her gracious disposition masks the firmresolve that she has of teaching her students in spite of
their restlessness. Often, we don't even realize when our fun-filled beginnings to History classes are actually Tr. Shalini's
way of introducing a chapter and not giving us free periods! Here is an excerpt of a candid discussion with the former
moderator of theLoyolaPressClub:
? HowmanyyearshaveyoubeenteachinginLoyola?
I have beenteaching history at Loyola for nine exciting andfruitful years. I have learnt muchfromthe students of Loyola
aswell andit hasbeenanenjoyableexperience.
?It isevident that youreallylikeHistory. What about Historyappealstoyou?
As a student I did not enjoy History. It was in college that I found my love for the subject and thought of making a
professionout of it.
?Youweremoderator of LPC(LoyolaPress Club), Interact ClubandtheHistoryCell, howdidyoumanagetobalanceclub
activitieswithacademicobligationsaswell?
I hadbeenmoderator of HistoryCell for thelongest periodof time, for sixyears withTeacher DorothyD'Souza. I amapersonwhoenjoys doingwhat
shedoesandasI enjoyedclubactivities, theydidnot feel likeaburdenandI didnot loseout onmyteachingtime.
?Couldyoutell usabout your experienceastheLPCModerator?
I truly learnt a lot as moderator of the LPC. It was also the first time I was involved in magazine making. It taught me how to take initiative and
responsibility andhowtomeet challenges. I amhappy that I was abletokeepalivetheeffort andinterest inthestudents andwas abletoadda few
newchangestothemagazine. Webrought out thefirst color magazine, whichcompletelytransformedthemagazine'slookandappeal.
?Istheresomethingyouwouldliketosuggest totheLPCwithall theexperiencethat youhavegathered?
I am really happy that now the LPC has a teacher moderator whose passion is magazine making. I would only advise them to be active and
interactive, keep a hand on the pulse of the school and try to give to the students what they want to read, and try to add a new element to the
magazineandmakeit evenbigger andbetter.
?If youcould, what wouldbetheonethingthat youwouldwant tochangeinLoyola?
What Loyola is lacking these days is a positive and healthy environment for competition. There is too much of a generalized attitude. Students
shouldhaveapassionandaim. Theyshouldtrytodosomethingnew, beit insports or inacademics, whichever fieldtheychoose. But students now
aretakingthingsfor grantedandtheyseemhappywithwhat theyhavewhichshouldnot bethecase.
Teachers are selfless!
They are merciful.
They pave our way,
When we want to become
successful .
They make us learn how to read
and write
And they make us walk the path
that is always right.
They carve our present,
So that we can work towards
making our future bright.
They walk us away from darkness,
PEACE
There are always wars between countries,
What we need is peace.
Without it, you won't be able to exercise your
rights,
All over the universe, there shall only be fights.
Without peace, all will have a weapon
No one will be left, men, children nor any
woman.
Between brothers, there will be a show of
might,
Darkness will prevail and there shall be no
light.
We do not want to hear
ourselves cry!
We need peace
and harmony.
Come; let us give it
a try.
