How-to:

adding racing stripes to towels

1. Completely open the binding and place the

back side of the towel against the front side of the
binding, lining up the edges. Stitch them together
in the crease of the binding closest to the edges
of the towel and binding.

2. Turn over the towel, folding the binding over so

the center crease aligns with the edge of the
towel. Stitch along the bottom of the binding.

3. Cut any excess binding on the towels edge,

leaving no material on either end.

4. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 on the parallel edge of

the towel.

5. For both remaining sides, repeat step 1, leaving

one extra inch of binding on both ends of the
towel. Turn the towel over and, with the binding
open, fold the extra inch of binding over the
corners on each side of the towel and then fold
over the towels top edge, in order to finish the
corners of the towel.

6. Stitch along the bottom of the binding as you

did in step 2 for the first two sides.

Limiting the palette to a two-tone
scheme takes a guest bath from basic
to brilliant. The Happy Preppy bases
are all covered in this quick-fix bathroom. The classic white beadboard
backdrop is invigorated through color
coordination. This red is perky, but
the room would be equally effective
in any sassy shade you chose. Sticking
to the one color allows the pieces to
work in harmony and pack a graphic
punch. The vintage towel bar with
glass shelf is elegant. Adding the
racing stripe to a plain white towel
provides the finishing pep.
