MIMS, Mumbai has been at the forefront of partnering the 'Armed Forces' in providing Officers from all the three hallowed services, a customized exposure to ensure smooth transition into the 'Corporate Cosmos'. The six-month curriculum has been so designed that the incipient strengths of the Officers dovetails snugly into the requirements of the 'Corporate Culture'. What commenced as a trial has evolved into a fully mature program which is healthily subscribed by both, the 'Armed Forces' and the Business environment alike. I have been following the conduct of the program and am immensely satisfied by the spirited interactions that ensue between the faculty and the course participants. In tune with the principles of 'Pedagogy', one can be certain that the participants and the faculty both benefit from their excursions and enrich the collective wisdom. These 32 Officers from the 'Defence 2011' batch are now on a cusp of another innings and are raring to prove themselves, once again. I wish all the course participants their very best, in the firm belief that pursuance of this program shall continue to enrich the 'Collective Conscience' of this great nation.

ince the very inception, our Defence Services have demonstrated their ability to professionally manage all their resources. Toward this, the 'First rate' officer cadre has been always in the forefront, marrying essential dimensions of National and home land security, technology and human resources. They have come out with flying colours not only within the country but also while serving in international organisations. Due to inherent pyramidal structure, many officers retire at an early age or seek premature retirement from service and opt to side step into the corporate world. These officers form a very rich pool of managerial talent, inherently coupled with courage, dedication, integrity, motivation and diligence. In the past, those who have joined the civil stream have time and again proved their talent in the second career chosen by them. My directorate has been seized of latent talent of these officers. Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai has been our partner in providing General Management programme for Defence officers especially structured to polish their skills and provide a launch pad to these officers into the corporate world. I am certain that the present batch of these 32 officers would further hone their managerial skills during the 24 weeks Management Development programme and prove to be an asset in any organization they join. Let me congratulate NMIMS, Mumbai in their positive partnering by imparting the highest quality of corporate management training. I am sanguine in my belief that these officers would prove to be an outstanding asset and true ambassadors of Armed Forces in the corporate world. I wish all the officers good luck in all their future endeavors. God Bless and Jai Hind.

hat SVKM's NMIMS Mumbai, is galloping ahead in the various listings by reputed surveys is not happenstance. This has been the result of the passionate pursuit of being at the forefront of the 'Knowledge management' by both its staff and the illustrious students alike. Its consistent performance, year on year has been due to its deep rooted ethical moorings as well as its sagacious underpinnings to attract the very best in all the spheres of its operations. In recognition of its brand equity and the capacity to impart niche skill sets, NMIMS, Mumbai was chosen as one of the few Institutes to commence a customized 'Certificate Programme in Business Management' for Defence Officers in 2003. Over the past six years this bond has been furthered by the positive response generated during the pursuance of this programme. The Defence Forces Officers are already equipped with a unique set of skills, which though may not be directly employable in the strictest sense, but are definitely worthy of harnessing by either fine tuning or customizing for the corporate requirements. We at NMIMS were seized of this germane issue and hence developed a customized curriculum for ensuring that the course participants are exposed to only those necessary nuances of the corporate cosmos, which were not afforded to them in their earlier exposition in the service of the nation. This batch of 32 Officers from all the three arms of the Armed forces is an enthusiastic mix of youth, talent, experience, maturity - all well endowed with their specific-to-type skill sets and a drive to do well, again. I wish them all the very best in their second outing, fully convinced of their potential to shine in the corporate world and their heartfelt urge to unleash it into success and thus bring laurels to this Institute and the nation alike.

orld over, business practices and the science of 'Management' owe a lot to their 'disciplined and systematic' roots in the Armed Forces. Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai has been at the frontier of 'Knowledge Management' - a Leader among the Top Business Schools of this country, was quick to recognize this and further the bond by launching a tailor-made 'Business Management' programme for the 'Defence Officers'. It did this by recognizing the immense talent pool available among the Officer Cadre and fine tuning them to the industry needs. This 'Six-Month' programme covers a broad spectrum of subjects, ranging from 'Corporate Strategy & Finance to Entrepreneurship development'. This provides a finely burnished edge to the course participants through 'Case studies' and participative pedagogy and transport them onto the threshold of being launched into the corporate cosmos. What started as an experiment has grown organically over these six years into one of its prime programmes - healthily subscribed and keenly anticipated by the leading corporate managements all over. This status has been as much achieved by the consummate involvement of the 'Institute' as the palpable passion, zeal and erudite energy exhibited by the 'Defence Officers' from all the three arms of Army, Navy and the Air Force. This batch of 32 intrepid Defence Officers who are on the cusp of a bright 'Second career' is an eclectic mix of experience, youth, maturity and varied skill sets backed by an inexhaustible reserve of 'Motivation' and energy. I wish them all the very best for their second career.

Faculty, NMIMS
now have been associated with just about every Executive Management Programme for Defence Officers and year after year, what does surprise me is the alacrity and energy with which these Officers approach altogether new subjects such as Finance, Labour laws & Industrial relations. I am not engaging in hyperbole, when I say that their zeal and approach is as inspiring and fresh as regular MBA graduates. In pursuance of the pedagogy, thoughtfully designed curriculum brings out their latent talent and case studies teach them the application. I being the facilitator for two of the expositions enjoyed the company of this Intrepid lot and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours in the corporate world supremely confident of their success and well being.

Dr. Chandan Das Gupta

MA, MBS (Finance), AICWA, CAIIB

his batch of 32 Officers came across as an interesting group from diverse backgrounds amalgamated by their urge to exercise their latent need-the need to excel, yet again. While interacting with them in the pursuance of pedagogy and other scholastic activities, I found this group to be as exciting as those in the normal MBA program, regardless of their seniority and different grooming. I am sure this batch of Officers brings variety to the table and this is their quintessential USP that is bound to further the 'corporate culture' that they are so keen and enthusiastic about.

The

Participants

32 participants, truly representative of the leadership of the Armed Forces; effective, efficient, determined and focused converged on 04 July 2011 in the August precincts of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies for a Post Graduate Programme in Business Management. The course participants represent a collective experience from a diverse background within the services. Flexible in their outlook and ever willing to learn, the participants epitomize what makes the armed forces professional, effective in their role and respond by the nation at large. Disciplined in every facet of their professional and personal lives, they possess superlative leadership skills which will make them assets in any organization they join. Their common expectation is to gain from the cauldron of collective wisdom of the widely renowned and respected faculty at the NMIMS. Such gains, along with the individual skill-set legacy of the officers gained during their services career compounded with their experience would ensure a seamless and smooth transition into the corporate world. Such transition would also undoubtedly result in extreme synergy of thought, purpose, efficiency and effectiveness.

Course

Structure
The Ministry of Defence has initiated a Resettlement Policy with the objective of providing a smooth Career Transition to Armed Forces Officers who are either short services officers, seeking premature retirement or leave on superannuation. Amongst the top B Schools of the country, NMIMS is one of the major contributors in achieving the objective of career transition. After successful conduct and 100% placement of the first five batches, the Sixth batch is in progress with 32 Defence Officers from Army, Navy and Air Force. A person from the Defence Forces is trained to handle any situation envisaged in the management philosophy. They are disciplined, have a sense of integrity and excellent leadership qualities that can fit well within any organisational structure. These Officers are cohesive, self starters, enthusiastic learners and have an extremely steep learning curve. Working in teams and leadership comes quite naturally to them. The metamorphosis from their battle fatigues to business suits seems incredibly so simple, progressing rapidly towards becoming tech centric, and has resulted in these officers being extremely comfortable with emerging concepts and latest trends. These individuals have consistently proved to be high achievers. Direction and objectives were only needed to be defined and the results were outstanding.
